On June 15, 2025, the Community Exchange Center “Tokutoku” opened in front of JR Shintoku Station 😊 On the second floor, the railway heritage exhibition room “Poppo” displays dioramas and the history of railways. When you view the dioramas, try crouching so your eye level matches the models—you’ll see them in a different way 🚂 On the first floor, the cafe and shop Kotoise offers railway-themed goods, cow-pattern cups and ornaments made from Shintoku-yaki pottery, handmade items by local artists, and specialty products from Shintoku Town. On the second floor, the information center (Shintoku Town Tourism Association) also rents bicycles, so you can explore the town by bike and enjoy the scenery and local food. Please consider visiting the Community Exchange Center “Tokutoku” sometime 🤗 https://shintoku-town.net//

When I walk around town, I see many different flowers. This time, I found a lily of the valley. Lily of the valley is one of Hokkaido’s representative flowers, and the native species reportedly grows wild in the highlands of Tohoku and Hokkaido. About a dozen small, white, bell-shaped flowers hang from a single stalk. This flower is fragrant, and after blooming it produces a spherical fruit that ripens red, but all parts of the plant are poisonous, so caution is advised. The flowering season is May to June, so I hope they will still be in bloom through the end of this month. An opening event for the Tokutoku Community Center, located next to Shintoku Station, will be held starting at 10:00 AM on Sunday, June 15. Lily-of-the-valley plants are in bloom near the Tokutoku Community Center, so if you’re interested, please come and see them while they’re at their best.🌸 Some information on lily of the valley has been quoted in part from Hokkaido's official website.

The JTB special train “Tabimonogatari” has arrived! The JTB “Tabimonogatari” has made a stop here for three consecutive years since Reiwa 5. This year too, we welcomed guests on the station platform with about 34 minutes of hospitality. 🚃 About 60 guests enjoyed Shintoku soba tea, two kinds of soba-yu (rich soba-yu and dashi-infused soba-yu), and soba karinto, and we sold a limited assortment set. Afterward, guests took photos on the platform and in front of the station’s photo frame, and enjoyed shopping at the station shop. More than ten groups posed at the “Soba Red Photo Frame” installed immediately to the left after exiting JR Shintoku Station. At the station shop, the soba karinto offered for tasting proved so popular that it sold out. When we spoke with guests returning to the platform, we heard happy remarks like “It was very delicious” and “It goes well with tea,” with people holding soba karinto. We bade them farewell, hoping they will stop by again next year. A short announcement. The “Soba Red Photo Frame” in front of the station is not a face-in panel, but you can pose as if you are eating soba noodles. If you’re interested, please come visit JR Shintoku Station.💡 #Hokkaido #Hokkaido tourism #Tokachi #Shintoku Town #Shintoku Town Tourism Association #JR Shintoku Station #JR #Stella Station #JTB #Tabimonogatari train #hospitality #Station-front complex Tokutoku #tuktuk #Tokutoku #hokkaido #hokkaidotrip #hokkaidotourism #tourism #Tokachi #Shintoku #omotenashi #welcomeshintoku #discovershintoku

Introducing the kiosk inside Shintoku Station, Stella Station We sell souvenirs from Shintoku Town, drinks, snacks, and more, and we also offer something called a “Children’s Ticket” at the register. With the tickets we bought, children can exchange them for dagashi (cheap snacks) or drinks. They are for students up to high school and are handy as a snack before school or outings, or for when mom or dad won’t buy snacks (laughs). Here’s how the children use it: First they draw a ticket fortune (omikuji), then exchange it for a ticket, choose dagashi and drinks up to the amount shown on the ticket, and have the staff at the kiosk confirm the total is within the limit. Finally, the children write a thank-you message. These messages are displayed densely under the Stella Station sign, so please take a look. Watching this, I noticed some kids giving a piece of candy to friends with smaller amounts or pooling tickets with friends to get snacks together, and I was impressed by their friendship and thoughtfulness. Seeing the children, I bought a ticket with the coins in my wallet. I felt like I’d done a small good deed (laughs). This lovely initiative is happening inside Shintoku Station, so if you’re interested in it, if you’re looking for souvenirs in Shintoku, or even if you just want to kill time while waiting for a train, come and drop by—any reason is fine. #Hokkaido #Hokkaido tourism #Tokachi #Tokachi tourism #Shintoku Town #Shintoku Town Tourism Association #Shintoku Station #kiosk #Stella Station #children’s fortune tickets #children’s omikuji #omikuji #children’s tickets #Toku-Toku station-front complex #tuktuk #TokuToku #hokkaido #hokkaidotrip #hokkaidotourism #tourism #tokachi #shintoku #welcomeshintoku #discovershintoku

Introducing the town’s only working space. Facing the street in front of JR Shintoku Station, the landmark is Soma Shoten with a wood-rich exterior and large windows. Soma Shoten @419soma419 This long-established shop, founded 119 years ago, sells books and stationery. You can also buy local products in a variety of categories. From late May through late October, the shop hosts a farm-fresh vegetable stall. Local farmers bring freshly harvested, seasonal produce every morning. @ekivege ↑ Here is information about Soma Shoten’s vegetable stall. The working space is located inside the shop on the left after you enter. It isn’t like a private room, so we were told it might not be ideal for web meetings, but it offers a bright, open area with pleasant background music where you can do writing and other desk work. *Please note that events are sometimes held in the shop, so call ahead if you wish to use the space.* ☎ 0156-64-5055 If you want to play hard in Shintoku Town and then get down to work, please make use of Soma Shoten’s working space. 'Chinese Eatery Miura Shoten' Last week they announced that their signature soy sauce ramen🍜 had been renewed, so I went to try it right away! At Miura Shoten you can customize your ramen. This time I customized it as follows… ① Noodle firmness—firm ② Green onions—extra ③ Back fat—normal ④ Special ichimi chili—normal And I ordered a large serving It looked jet black. A pitch-black soy sauce ramen🍜 The owner told me they blend in tamari soy sauce✨ First, the soup. Contrary to its appearance, it had a deep richness and the soy sauce flavor filled my mouth. Next, the straight medium-thick noodles clung to the soup, and I couldn’t stop eating them. The extra green onions cut through the rich mouthfeel with their aroma rising through the nose and the soup, leaving a refreshing finish. With plenty of vegetables and the satisfying weight of the medium-thick noodles, it was very delicious🍜 A new specialty of Shintoku Town! Pitch-black in appearance, richly flavored in the old style Pitch-black soy sauce ramen 'Shintoku Black' Please give it a try🍜 #Hokkaido #Hokkaido gourmet #Hokkaido sightseeing #Hokkaido is huge #Hokkai-do #Tokachi #Tokachi #Tokachi sightseeing #Tokachi gourmet #Shintoku Town #Shintoku #ramen #jet black #Shintoku Black #hokkaido #hokkaido_lovers #hokkaido_love #ilovehokkaido #hokkaidotrip #hokkaidolikers #hokkaidolove #hokkaidosgram #hokkaidofood #hokkaidotravel #tokachi #shintoku

On the opening day, about 40 people, including kindergarten and nursery children from the town and their guardians, attended the lighting ceremony; when the children counted down and the lights came on together, cheers of “Wow!” broke out. The event started in 1987 (Showa 62) and was held every year until last June, when redevelopment work around Shintoku Station began and forced a cancellation last year. With the sidewalk area in front of the station now complete, the event can be held again this year. The scale is smaller than before, but we plan to expand the displays in future years as surrounding facilities are completed. As the first new addition this year, a new illuminated Ezo deer sculpture has been installed. The stag measures about 2 meters in body length and stands 2 meters tall; up close it has an impressive presence. Nearby, a doe is depicted grazing, nestled beside him. Visitors to Shintoku, please be sure to see the refreshed “Welcome Shintoku Illumination.” #Hokkaido #Tokachi #Shintoku Town #Shintoku Town Tourism Association #Shintoku Station #illumination #Welcome #Shintoku Illumination #Ezo deer #japan #hokkaido #tokachi #shintoku #welcomeshintoku #illumination #shintokustation

In June 2025, I visited Tokutoku, a community exchange center opening next to Shintoku Station. The facility combines a display of railway heritage, a kids’ area, a shop selling Shintoku specialties, a cafe, and a multipurpose hall. The tourism association will move to Tokutoku next year, and we look forward to more opportunities to interact with visitors than ever before. #Hokkaido Tokachi #Shintoku Town #Shintoku Town Tourism Association #Shintoku Station #railways #railway heritage display #kids’ area #cafe #local specialties

From today until September 6, The Royal Express, operated by Tokyu Corporation and JR Hokkaido, will stop at Shintoku Station every Friday, so the tourism association greeted and welcomed passengers on the station platform. The Royal Express, named to evoke elegance and a sense of occasion with a concept of beauty and a sparkling journey, is a special train notable for its royal blue livery; it runs with a diesel locomotive (DE15) and a power car coupled together. At Shintoku Town Tourism, they offered hospitality in hopes that the sparkling beauty of Hokkaido, Tokachi, and Shintoku Town—no less dazzling than the train—would reach the passengers.

I attended a preview of Takutetsu Kinokotan, which opens on Saturday, April 6. Takutetsu Kinokotan is a facility run by Hokkaido Takutetsu Bus that offers hands-on harvesting experiences for shiitake mushrooms grown on logs in Shintoku. This site once hosted Minami-Shintoku Station of the Hokkaido Takushoku Railway, the predecessor of Takutetsu Bus, which ran between Shintoku, Shikaoi and Kamishihoro until its closure in 1968 (Showa 43). The Takushoku Railway also carried timber and other goods, which reportedly led to the start of log-grown shiitake here. For that reason, the facility includes a corner exhibiting photos, equipment and materials from its railway days. Located one minute from National Route 38 and about 1.5 km from JR Shintoku Station, it’s a roughly five-minute ride if you use the free rental bicycles available in front of the station, so please stop by. Also, the cute stationmaster Kinokotan will be waiting to welcome you! #Hokkaido #Tokachi #Shintoku #Shintoku Tourism Association #Takutetsu Kinokotan #Stationmaster Kinokotan #harvest experience #log-grown shiitake #mushrooms #Hokkaido Takushoku Bus #Hokkaido Takushoku Railway

As the Nemuro Main Line segment between Shintoku and Furano nears closure, Shintoku Station has been getting busier. Since early this month, the station has hosted a "Thank You, Nemuro Main Line" panel exhibition; visitors stop to view the photos and take their own pictures. In the nearby waiting area, a few customers can be seen enjoying station bento boxes made by local restaurants. According to staff at Stella Station, the station kiosk, Wednesdays feature Shintoku jidori rice (Shintoku free-range chicken rice bento), while other days offer a Tokachi yakiniku bento. Both are very popular. If you're visiting Shintoku Station, please take a moment to create a page of memories of the Nemuro Main Line while savoring the flavors of Shintoku and Tokachi.
