The Power of Books, the Power to Live A Project in Cooperation with Shanti Volunteer Association "The Power of Books, the Power to Live" Through books, start close to home and then look toward the world— Under that concept, with the help of two people from Myanmar who live in Nishiokoppe Village, we created translated picture books to send to Myanmar. What kind of country is Myanmar? What is its situation right now? First, we spent time learning about Myanmar. Then we held picture-book readings in Japanese and Burmese. After enjoying the differences in Burmese and Japanese pronunciation, it was time to make the translated picture books. Using a Burmese kana comparison chart, we cut and pasted Burmese translation stickers onto every page, repeating the process. At the end, they taught us how to write our own names in Burmese. Having two people who speak Burmese meant we could ask questions when we lost track of where stickers should go, and learn things that you can’t get from reading materials alone, such as stroke order. Thanks to them, we felt Burmese become more familiar to us. The translated picture books we made that day will reach Myanmar around next summer. Nishiokoppe Village Variety Show Last year, the variety show returned after a five-year hiatus. This year, we were able to hold it successfully once again. Thank you to everyone who came out in large numbers. The performance segment was rich with acts. From children to adults taking the stage, there were fresh, uplifting performances and also V-kei band sets, letting audiences enjoy a wide range of genres. In the latter half, the karaoke segment featured a somewhat different lineup than last year, but this village truly has many talented singers…! We were captivated by the clear, expansive voices. Stalls offered food and drinks, as well as booths selling capsule toys and other playthings, plus shooting galleries and ring-toss corners. Shrine Festival The Kamikoppu area holds its shrine festival on September 7, and Nishiokoppe Village celebrates its shrine festival on September 11. It’s the day when people parade through their neighborhood with the portable shrine. In Kamikoppu, a night-before celebration called yomiya-sai is also held, making for a lively few days. In Nishiokoppe, an entertainment show takes place on the evening of the festival day, where villagers perform and enjoy drinks together while watching the acts. People wearing happi coats and children dressed as ochigo (festival pages) add to the festive atmosphere. Walking through the streets of Kamikoppu, I heard the taiko drums echo off the surrounding mountains and return as a distant rumble. Introducing Takushoku Kinokotan, located inside Takushoku Bus’s Shintoku Office 😊 This tourist farm reuses sites once used by Hokkaido Takushoku Railway for its headquarters, rolling stock depot, and company housing on the line that ran between Shintoku and Kamishihoro. The name Takushoku Kinokotan is a coined word combining Takutetsu (short for Hokkaido Takushoku Railway), “kinoko” (mushroom), and the Ainu word kotan, meaning village. It reflects the desire to bring new life back to this once-bustling place. You can enjoy a hands-on shiitake harvesting experience grown carefully on logs using timber felled in Hokkaido. At the farm shop you can buy log-grown shiitake, Hokkaido Takushoku Railway and bus merchandise, and mushroom goods. Event Announcement 📣 The 49th Kashirin Park Festival will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 😊 This autumn industry festival lets you savor the flavors unique to Taiki, a town with both mountains and sea!! This year’s HBC Radio live recording guests are Mariko Nagai and Shinya Kono and Hitoshi Fujio from Oklahoma 🎵 The program is packed with favorites like the annual Wagyu Festival and the Aki-aji (autumn salmon) Grab, food stalls featuring Taiki’s delicious offerings, dairy product sales from Snow Brand Megmilk, which has a factory in Taiki, and a fun raffle 😍 📍Note: Entry to the Aki-aji Grab is by lottery. Lottery tickets will be distributed between 9:00 and 9:30. Also, the event may be canceled depending on fishing conditions. Please understand in advance. Today the Roadside Station Otofuke Natsuzora no Furusato reached a total of 5 million visitors, and a commemorative ceremony was held!✨ Thank you to everyone who visited! Kushiro Tairyo Donpaku was held in on September 13. This year, many customers Fun large fireworks that color the night sky from Guest Room and restaurants. A viewpoint has been installed at the Tarumae Garo Gorge! The site is about 200 meters north along the forest road just past the Tarumae Garo Bridge from the parking lot. Because of the risk of rockfalls, visitors have only been able to look down from the bridge in recent years, but the new viewpoint lets you see Tarumae Garo from close to the riverbed. Out of consideration for environmental conservation, there are no stairs or handrails on the slope up to the viewpoint. Leaves can make the path slippery, so please take care with your footing.

I went to Moerenuma Park. Moerenuma Park is a river (swamp?) I like it because it's wide. The leaves were red in places, and there were many dragonflies flying. I felt that autumn was coming soon.
