Tokachi Hills, a garden on a gentle hill in Makubetsu, is hosting Rose Week until Sunday, July 13. At the entrance, you can borrow leisure sheets and baskets for free and enjoy a picnic inside the garden. The café attached to the shop serves soft-serve ice cream, rice balls, curry and more. This time I had a chilled white corn soup made with Memuro-grown corn. Secret Garden Starting from Shintoku Station, if you head toward Shintoku Hireya, you come upon a lovely garden. This is a private residence, but the owners said, “We want not only the people of Shintoku but many others to come and see it,” so I paid a visit. The garden is full of the owner’s love for flowers, affection for Shintoku, and memories of a loved one. However, a while ago some rose saplings were dug up and stolen, which was very sad. They may have been plants tended with great care, and above all they may have held deep sentiment. I don’t think anyone who reads this post and comes by would do anything hurtful, but since this is a private home, please view the garden respectfully. If the owner or the gardener is working in the yard, say hello and they may show you their lovely inner garden. If no one is there, please enjoy looking into the inner garden from the outside. Climbing hydrangeas in bloom at Karikachi Kogen Park From mid-June to early July, an estimated several hundred climbing hydrangea plants wind around the larch plantation trees in Karikachi Kogen Park, creating a beautiful sight. The cream-colored flowers, about 5 mm in size, bloom in clusters, making the larch trees look as if they are wearing dresses. The usual peak season is early to mid-July, but the warm temperatures likely caused them to bloom all at once this year. Bicycle rentals are available at the Shintoku Town Tourism Association counter on the 2nd floor of the Shintoku Station Community Center "Tokutoku." The ride from "Tokutoku" to Karikachi Kogen Park is about 10 km (approx. 40 minutes). From SL Square, take the Poppo Road — it's a steady uphill all the way to Karikachi Kogen Park, but on the return you'll enjoy a fast downhill ride with the wind at your back 🚲 For those who are reasonably fit and want to enjoy active, slightly adventurous sightseeing, please use our rental bikes. Bansei Natural Flower Garden — Flowering Update Hiougi iris (ヒオウギアヤメ) and Ezo daylilies (エゾカンゾウ) have begun to bloom at Bansei Natural Flower Garden, mainly around the Horokayanto pit-dwelling cluster.

Shintoku Town Tourism Association has opened 📢 After exiting Shintoku Station, you’ll see a large building on the right. Go up to the second floor from the north entrance of that building and… you will find the reception desk of our Shintoku Town Tourism Association. From this desk, we welcome visitors who come for sightseeing, those who stop by to liven things up, and local residents 💁‍♀️ We staff the desk on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays except during the New Year holidays, so please stop in. While driving, I spotted some cows!! The temperature rose sharply today! The cows looked hot, but the sunny weather felt wonderful. 🌞 The forecast calls for a slight drop in temperature tomorrow. Everyone, please take good care of your health. 😌

The warm days just keep coming! On days like this, why not visit the Fishway Observation Room, Totoroado? At Totoroado, you can watch fish swimming close by through glass! I visited on June 6th and was able to see cherry trout (sakuramasu) making their way upstream! One of the charms is that different fish migrate at different times of year🐟✨ It's a great spot for families with children! Be sure to stop by Totoroado and take a look♪

When I walk around town, I see many different flowers. This time, I found a lily of the valley. Lily of the valley is one of Hokkaido’s representative flowers, and the native species reportedly grows wild in the highlands of Tohoku and Hokkaido. About a dozen small, white, bell-shaped flowers hang from a single stalk. This flower is fragrant, and after blooming it produces a spherical fruit that ripens red, but all parts of the plant are poisonous, so caution is advised. The flowering season is May to June, so I hope they will still be in bloom through the end of this month. An opening event for the Tokutoku Community Center, located next to Shintoku Station, will be held starting at 10:00 AM on Sunday, June 15. Relocation of “Shintoku Stella Station” and the reception of bicycle rentals in front of JR Shintoku Station Due to the move to the Tokutoku Community Center, bicycle rental reception on Saturdays and Sundays will be suspended. After the relocation, the new store will be renamed Cafe & Shop Kotoise. From Sunday, June 15th, bicycle rental reception in front of JR Shintoku Station will take place at the Shintoku Town Tourism Association on the 2nd floor of the Tokutoku Community Center. Finally, the long-awaited opening!
