The "36th Amakusa Saikai Coast Autumn Kiln Tour" will be held in for 5 days from October 9 (Thu) ~ October 13 (Mon/holiday) at 6 kilns in Reihoku Town and Amakusa 😊 City
During the period, new works will be exhibited and sold at discounts, so please take this opportunity to visit and enjoy ♪ the scenery 🌊🌅 of Amakusa ceramics and the Amakusa Saikai coast

Introduction of participating potters/

If you go south along the Amakusa Saikai coast, you will reach the Takahama area. "Takahama Ware Juho Kiln" is a kiln that plays a part in the history of the Ueda family, which has served as a headman in this area for generations.

Cultivation of grapes flourished in the Takahama area during the Meiji era, and it was widely known as "Takahama grape". It was once said to be a "town covered with grapes", but although it was once on the verge of extinction, it has been revived thanks to the efforts of the local promotion association, and now you can see the scenery of the vineyards here and there in the area.

Speaking of "Takahama Yaki Juyoshi Kiln", the "Mirumon" patterned with seaweed is well known, but the history of Takahama is also alive in the painting of grapes. By the time of the autumn kiln tour, the grape harvest is already over, but it is also a pleasure to look at the grape designs on the vessels and think about the history of this land.

During the period, from October 9 (Thu) ~ October 12 (Sun), in addition to a Workshop by illustrator Koda Yoko, food, drinks and miscellaneous goods will be sold at the "Ueda Family Residence" adjacent to the Juho Kiln. Please see the posted image for details.

The Kozatoko area is located at the end of the road that turns south along the Amakusa Saikai coast and turns into the sea. "Amakusa Karatsu Township Kame Kiln" is built to overlook the calm seaside crowded with people enjoying diving and kayaking. Until now, it has been known as "Amakusa Karatsu Juro Kiln", but from this autumn, it has returned to its former name "Amakusa Karatsu Township Kame Kiln".

In the exhibition room, there are vessels that reflect the individuality of each couple. Her husband, Kameyama Township, Training in Karatsu, which is famous for Karatsu ware, and his wife, Kameyama Sanae, studied ceramics at the Ceramics College in Arita. Thereare, even in the same Saga prefecture, the pottery of Karatsu and Arita is "earth or stone" or "pottery or porcelain", and there is a big difference in the ingredients and characteristics.

Mr. Township's works are attractive for their captivating shapes and calm patterns of nature woven by earth and glaze. The lines drawn on the vessels, reminiscent of the classics peculiar to Karatsu ware, are infused with the "aesthetics of subtraction". Sanae, on the other hand, uses a blue pigment called gosu to create a modern and expressive painting by dyeing before glazing. There is a picture with a warm Traditional Japanese straw raincoat that makes your mouth smile involuntarily.

Two vessels that use opposite ingredients and have their own styles. Ingredients are all available in Amakusa. The exhibition room is lined with vessels nurtured by Amakusa's Nature, and there is a strangely rich harmony. Please pick it up and Please enjoy its world.
