Fukoji Hydrangeas ❚ Bloom Report as of June 16, 2025 Fukoji sits in Asaji Town, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture. It is also famous as a hydrangea sightseeing spot. The hydrangeas are currently at their best. This year there are fewer flowers than usual, but each one blooms beautifully. Some of the earliest blossoms have begun to wither slightly. We will update the bloom status as it changes. Location: Kamiozuka, Asaji Town, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture Access: About a 10-minute drive from JR Asaji Station Parking: Available (free) Restrooms: Available ❚ Fukoji The cliff-carved Buddha on the temple grounds, including its base, stands about 11 meters tall and is one of Japan’s largest cliff Buddhas. The central, giant figure is Fudo Myoo. Fudo Myoo usually appears with an angry expression, but years of wind and rain have softened this cliff Buddha’s features into a gentle, rounded face. Although large, the Fudo Myoo here has a very approachable presence. Fukoji is also called “Hydrangea Temple” for good reason, with many hydrangeas planted around the grounds. During the rainy season, visitors can see numerous hydrangea blooms alongside the cliff Buddha. The hydrangeas are cared for by the temple and local community. ■■■ Access to central Bungo-Ono City ■■■ From JR Hakata Station, Fukuoka Prefecture: about a 3-hour drive From JR Kumamoto Station, Kumamoto Prefecture: about a 2-hour drive From JR Beppu Station, Oita Prefecture: about a 1 hour 20 minute drive From JR Yufuin Station, Oita Prefecture: about a 1 hour 20 minute drive ■■■■■■■■■■■■ Introducing sightseeing and recommended spots in Kyushu, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture ■■■■■■■■■■■■

Sightseeing spot introduction Tarumae Garo (Toma Komaki City) The Sightseeing spot in June is Tarumae Garo! Everyone, Garrow? That's right, isn't it? "Gallow" means "a place where a river streams between narrow sheer cliffs." Indeed, here in the Tarumae Garo, the sheer rocks show a unique landscape, and the rock surface is covered with dark green moss, which is like a velvety carpet and is a very beautiful place. It is located in a forest at the foothills of Mt. Mt. Tarumae, which has been designated as a Nature Conservation District in 1979 (Showa 54) in the city's Nature Conservation District, and in June, when the fresh greenery season begins, the early summer sunlight reaches the deep riverbed, showing the most beautiful scenery of the year. There is Car parking lot, so you can easily stop by Car! Surrounded by greenery and the sound of the river streaming, this place is a healing spot that will make you forget the summer heat and the hustle and bustle of daily life, so please come and visit us in the coming season! * The surrounding mountain forests It is also one of habitats for wild animals including brown bears. Please refrain from entering the forest in the morning and evening when brown bears are active. * In the past, it was possible to go down to the river, but now please do not go down to the river due to the risk of bedrock collapse

Minami-cho Tourism Association
Jun. 16, 2025
Good evening everyone! This is the Minami Town Tourism Association. Today, June 16, is World Sea Turtle Day. It is said to be a day to nurture the feeling of caring for sea turtles and call for their protection. So today, I would like to introduce you to Ohama Coast, the spawning ground of sea turtles that our Minami Town is proud of! A sandy beach about 500 meters long located in Hiwasoura, Minami-cho, Kaibu-gun, Tokushima Prefecture, is the Ohama Coast. As the name suggests, "big beach" is the origin of the name, and there is Thereare Obama at the mouth of the Hiwasa River, which streams nearby. Just off the coast of Coast is Tachishima, and it is said that it was once possible to walk to the island at low tide. Ohama Coast is famous as a spawning ground for sea turtles, and in 1967 it was designated as a national natural monument under the name of "Sea Turtle and Spawning Grounds of Ohama Coast". Since 1950, statistics on the number of loggerhead sea turtles have been collected, and in 1968, 308 landings were confirmed. However, since 1996, the number of landings has been in the double digits, and since then the number has decreased to the single digits. Finally, in 2018, the number of eggs laid fell to zero for the first time since statistics began, and in 2023, the number of landings was also zero. Even so, Minami Town has been working hard to protect the environment of Ohama Coast, and last year, sea turtles were confirmed to have landed and laid eggs in Ohama Coast in two years yellowtail, and this year, on June 12, the first loggerhead sea turtle landed and laid eggs of the year! They are expected to hatch in early August! In order to protect the Ohama Coast, which is easy for sea turtles to land and lay eggs, Ohama Coast strives to protect the environment by restricting entry to the Coast at night and prohibiting both cars from passing in the vicinity from mid-May ~ mid-August every year. When you come to Minami, please cooperate in protecting the environment and protecting the safety of sea turtles. And while thinking about the sight of the Ohama Coast crowded with sea turtles again, please Enjoy the magnificent Nature! !!

[Sunday, July 13] is the day the Ice Tunnel opens A popular spot in Nishiokoppe Village —The Ice Tunnel— This hidden gem can only be seen in summer. Because there is less snow than usual this year the opening will be held not on the final Sunday of July but on the mid-month date of Sunday the 13th! However, sightings of bears or other unavoidable reasons may force the event to be canceled. Last year, although heavy snow had already melted and the tunnel-shaped ice could not be seen, visitors were able to go farther inside than usual and enjoy a special experience. What kind of ice formations will we see this year? We will announce event details on the village website and this account, so please check for updates. #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #Ice Tunnel #Opening Day #July 13 #Summer
