Amakusa West Coast 🍁 Autumn Kiln Tour — Featured Kiln / 03 Mugen Kiln The 36th Amakusa West Coast Autumn Kiln Tour will take place over five days from Thursday, October 9 to Monday, October 13 (national holiday), with six kilns across Reihoku and Amakusa City participating. During the event you can view and buy new works and enjoy discounted sales, so please take this opportunity to visit and enjoy Amakusa ceramics and the Amakusa West Coast scenery 🌊🌅. (Note: Tenjiku Pottery Kiln will not participate.) 🍁🍁🍁 Featured Kiln Introduction / Tucked quietly in the satoyama of Reihoku, Mugen Kiln stands serene. From the pieces created by kiln owner Seiko Tanaka, you sense an unwavering dedication to beauty. When asked about that source, she showed us the neatly arranged collection of seashells. As a child, during the Obon season she began collecting sakuragai and benigai shells found on the local shore during the spirit-floating ceremony, becoming captivated by the mysterious shapes and colors that nature creates. Tanaka’s remark — “Truly beautiful things in this world are those without calculation, like these” — left a strong impression. It seems the core of Mugen Kiln’s unique worldview breathes from that sentiment. We hope you will pick up Tanaka’s carefully crafted ceramics and feel their charm firsthand. Unpesticided vegetables and potted flowers will also be on sale during the period. 📍 Mugen Kiln 588-1 Shirakio, Reihoku, Amakusa District, Kumamoto Prefecture 863-2506 TEL: 080-1703-6886 ________________________________ The 36th Amakusa West Coast 🍁 Autumn Kiln Tour Period: Thursday, October 9 – Monday, October 13 (national holiday) 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM Venues 〈Reihoku〉 Uchida Sarayama Pottery, Kobo Kaze, Mugen Kiln, Unshū Kiln (Note: Tenjiku Pottery Kiln will not participate) 〈Amakusa City〉 Takahama Ware Juhogama, Amakusa Karatsu Juro Kiln (Goyama Kamegama) 🍁 Two stamp rallies run concurrently! ※ A digital stamp rally qualifying for Kumamoto Health Points📱 ※ A stamp rally to win items from your chosen kiln (entry forms available at each kiln📃) Inquiries: Amakusa Pottery Stone Research and Development Promotion Council Secretariat (within Reihoku Town Hall, Commerce and Tourism Division) TEL: 0969-35-3332

🍁🍁🍁

Introducing the participating kilns /

Kobo Kaze continues to make pottery in a more than 130-year-old traditional farmhouse surrounded by nature. The studio began full-scale pottery activities in 2006.

For this feature, the studio owner, Mr. Hayashida, demonstrated a hand-building technique known as himodzukuri, one of the methods that does not use a potter’s wheel. Himodzukuri involves stacking clay rolled into cord-like strands and shaping them as they accumulate. Mr. Hayashida skillfully forms black clay into these cords and stacks them slowly and deliberately. Watching him work feels like time itself is moving gently, and it soothes the viewer.

When firing pieces in a carbonization kiln, Kobo Kaze leaves the exterior unglazed to highlight the natural gradations created by the way flames touch the surface, bringing out the clay’s inherent texture. A transparent glaze is applied to the interior to ensure everyday usability. The result is a simple, unpretentious elegance.

During the event, visitors can also find bamboo dragonfly crafts, wooden goods, homemade sweets, loaves of bread, and jams for sale.

🍁🍁🍁

Introducing the Uchida Sarayama Pottery, which carries on a porcelain-making history that began around 1650 and continued for about a century.

For this Autumn Kiln Tour, we recommend a new piece using the “iro-itchin” (colored itchin) technique: itchin motifs painted in a blue inspired by the Amakusa West Coast sea. Though itchin looks charming, it represents delicate skill and careful effort. The blue itchin patterns stand out beautifully against the white ground — a piece you should pick up and examine closely.

Also not to be missed are Uchida Sarayama Pottery’s classic zodiac figurines. Sales begin each year with the Autumn Kiln Tour. Next year’s zodiac is the horse. We photographed a veteran painter with 20 years’ experience at work. Watching the unglazed horses come to life through the brush is a stirring sight.

The zodiac figurines cycle every 12 years, and Uchida Sarayama Pottery prepares a new mold each time, applying designs suited to the era. They produce as many as three thousand pieces. Through these zodiac figurines, they aim to convey the distinctive whiteness of Amakusa Toseki.

An island 🏝 you'll want to come back to again and again ― Izu Oshima Island Tour Hello! This is 🤗 Hokule'a Shonan This time, I would like to introduce ✨ the Scene of the diving tour on Izu Oshima Island Izu Oshima Island is a popular outlying island that is easy to access from Tokyo. It's about 45 minutes by high-speed boat from Atami, 🛳 but it's a different world in the sea. Held in for the second time this year, and there are many repeat visitors, making it truly 😊 an island that makes you want to come back again and again A fascinating Water world 🌊 The sparkling scenery that spreads out in the shallow area ✨ The world surrounded by light is so beautiful that you will want to look at it forever. Plus, swimming through the dynamic terrain ⛰️ arches and rocky terrain created by volcanic eruptions will make you feel like you're on an adventure. No matter where you dive, there is a lot of variety, and every time you dive, you will discover something new! And above all, a school 🐠🐟 of fish constantly swimming around the divers and never and a moment when they get bored. Unforgettable Night Diving 🌙 What was particularly impressive this time was night diving. The sea at night shows a completely different look than in the daytime. Fish and nocturnal creatures illuminated by lights... Kiss your heart. Among them, what! !️ I came across an oversized sea turtle 🐢 with a body length of more than 1 m. Impression ✨ by the appearance of sleeping comfortably on the rocky ground Everyone was so excited by the power that they just got close and kissed ... I'm sorry 🙏 I woke you up, but it was 👏 a really valuable encounter. Summary🪸 Izu Oshima Island is a special place that combines the grandeur of Nature with the richness of Water, in addition to its proximity and accessibility. A world of shallow light, volcanic terrain, schools of fish, and encounters with big game... All of them will be unforgettable memories. I Izu Oshima Island everyone thinks, "I want to Outbound again!" I can't wait to see 🤿✨ what kind of encounters await me on the next tour 📸 The tour Scene and Latest Information are also Broadcasting on Instagram! 👉 @hokulea_divejapan #DiveJapan #UnderwaterAdventure #ScubaLife #OceanLovers #NightDive #DivingJapan #ExploreTheBlue #HokuleaShonan

All ten of Shimoda’s beaches closed their swimming season on August 31. Thank you to everyone who visited this year. After the season ends, designated swimming and surf zones disappear, and regulations such as "prohibited," "caution," or "permitted" no longer apply; lifeguards and beach patrols that were on duty at the bathing sites are withdrawn. A water-accident advisory is also in effect. With hot days likely to continue, please take care of weather, water temperature, and wave conditions if you go swimming. Be equally careful around other bodies of water. Even outside the official swimming season, you can still enjoy time by the sea as marine therapy. For marine sports, there are experiences suitable for beginners, including sea kayaking, surf lessons, and diving. Simply walking the shore and breathing the salt-tinged air can have the benefits of marine therapy. Spread a sheet on the sand and relax while watching the sea or getting lost in a book. As summer’s bustle fades, the autumn sea becomes clear and calm. Shimoda’s sea is worth visiting even after the swimming season ends.✨ We look forward to seeing you (^o^)

The 2nd “Amakusa Reihoku Literary Stroll” sightseeing route creation workshop was held🎊
Last week on August 21, the second workshop was held in Reihoku to develop a sightseeing walking route so visitors can enjoy the town’s literary spots and heritage as new tourism resources✨
Held with the aim of revitalizing tourism “together with local people,” the second session proved a rich time in which the more we dug, the more literary treasures of Reihoku we uncovered👏 In particular, participants were treated to a carefully delivered, realistic walking-tour-style guided explanation by Mr. Kanzaki, the president of the Guides Association, who projected images as he spoke. This gave everyone a renewed understanding of the local area and created a lively atmosphere♪

The next workshop, the third session, is scheduled for Thursday, September 25 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM‼
We plan an enjoyable workshop full of activities that delve more deeply into literature and the history of Reihoku, so please join us👀
*We will open recruitment for participants on our website in early September.*

We are also collecting ideas and insider information from those who cannot attend the workshops to help shape the walking route. Please take part in our survey via the announcements section on our website!

Hello! This is 🤗 Hokule'a Shonan This time, I went diving in Futo, a popular Spot in Higashiizu! Tomito is a place that can be reached by Day trip from the Kanto region, There is a it is ✨ one of the most popular beaches in the Higashi-Izu diving Spot On this day, we were 👍 divided into an OW (Open Water) training team and a fun dive team. The transparency, which was a little down, was recovering quickly and I was able 😄 to dive very comfortably. August is coming to an end, but the midsummer days are still ongoing. After all, the sea looks best 🏝 in summer. Of course, the coolness of the air conditioner is comfortable, but the time to jump into the sea in front of you and cool off while soaking up the sun is the most luxurious moment 🐠 of all. The moment you put your face on the surface of the water, it is a blissful time. In the sparkling water, a flock of Solas damselfish unique to Higashi-Izu Unfolds. The scene is a healing space that you will want to look at forever, and it will make you 🤿 feel the charm of diving again. And what I would like to recommend in Tomito is "Tomito Hall". The terrain is like a small cave, and on a clear day, the light shines through, making you 🌟 feel like you're exploring a small cave. If you were too busy to go diving in the summer, don't worry! Tomito, which can be reached on a day trip from the Kanto region, is the perfect sea for the upcoming hot season. It is a diving Spot that even beginners can participate in with confidence, so it is recommended to start obtaining Sense and fun dives at this time. 🌈 Hokule'a Shonan is a PADI 5 Star diving center located in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The theme is "Let's go on a journey to a world we haven't seen yet!" We help you discover the wonders and joys of Nature through diving. Held in diving courses and tours for more than 300 days a year in Izu, Okinawa, overseas, etc., and the small group system makes beginners feel safe. We can also make a plan according to your request, so please feel free to contact us 🫧. Even if you missed the summer, the residual heat continues. Why don't you take this opportunity to experience diving in Higashi-Izu and Tomito? 🌊 #DiveJapan #JapanDiving #FutoDiving #EastIzu #DayTripFromTokyo #BeginnerFriendly #SmallGroupDiving #EnglishFriendly #DiscoverScuba #ExploreTheBlue #OceanLovers #UnseenWorld

The building I’m introducing this time is the Western-style house a few steps up from the Ukon House. What view opens up from the second-floor veranda? That’s a surprise to enjoy when you visit. . When you come to the Ukon House, be sure to climb up to the Western-style house on Kitamaebune Shipowners’ Street for a different experience—the unique scenery you can only see here awaits you. https://www.minamiechizen.com/en/feature/64468/...

Diving connects the 🌏 world Hello. This is 🤗 Hokule'a Shonan The other day, I went to the popular diving spot "Izu Marine Park (IOP)" in Higashi-Izu. This time, we had guests from Spain and guests from the United States living in Japan. It was a 🤿✨ very international dive On the day of the dive, we were divided into two teams: the experience diving team and the fun dive team. The experience diving team started by snorkeling and getting used to the sea. Scene observed colorful fish in a shallow area with high transparency, and the guests seemed 😄 to be having a lot of fun After that, I tried to breathe in water for the first time. I was a little nervous at first, but I soon got used to it and was able to dive calmly. In addition, I tried water photography, and I was able to enjoy 👏 it with so much leeway that I couldn't believe it was the first time The Fun Dive Team aimed for Izu Marine Park's Specialties "Water Post". Meter under the seabed, you can 📮✨ actually post a postcard to this post and the postcard will really reach the other party. Those who receive it will surely be surprised. In addition, this time, a guest who enjoys drawing also tried drawing in water. It was a special and luxurious time to enjoy diving and art at the same time. There is a very much to 🙏 everyone who participated this time Once again, I felt 🌏 that diving is an Activities that connects the world It is a great pleasure for us to be able to connect across borders through the sea. ——— 🌈 Hokule'a Shonan is a small-group dive shop located in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. Under the theme of "Let's embark on a journey to an unseen world!", we convey the beauty and enjoyment of Nature through diving. During the summer, a Taiwanese student staying in Tateyama experienced the Tateyama Bay Fireworks Display. We received some lovely photos, videos, and impressions from them, and we’re pleased to share them here! Xiangyun’s impressions The Tateyama fireworks festival was incredibly exciting. I was astonished that Japanese fireworks last for a whole hour, whereas major events in Taiwan—such as New Year’s Eve—only last about five minutes; that contrast surprised me greatly. What sets Tateyama’s fireworks apart is that they are launched over the sea, creating a vast spread that blooms everywhere at once, so you don’t know where to look; it felt fresh and spectacular. Watching from the sand, with most people lying back comfortably, was very pleasant. I was swept up in the romantic atmosphere of the moment and felt that the Tateyama fireworks festival contained everything needed for romance. The festival food stalls heightened the dreamlike mood, their colorful displays and rich aromas making everything tempting. There were many takoyaki vendors, and I ended up buying a box to taste. The vendors were very kind and warm toward me even though we couldn’t speak the same language, which touched my heart. Walking around made me smile naturally, and those delicious flavors made the night even more unforgettable. The Tateyama Fireworks Festival is truly exhilarating. I was amazed that Japanese fireworks can last for a whole hour, especially compared to major celebrations in Taiwan—like New Year’s Eve—that only last about five minutes. This difference really shocked me. What makes the Tateyama fireworks special is that they explode over the sea, creating a vast display that bursts in all directions at once, making it hard to know where to look. It’s both novel and spectacular. Watching from the beach, where most people lie down comfortably, adds to the relaxing atmosphere. The romantic mood at that moment is intoxicating, as if the Tateyama fireworks festival embodies all the elements needed for romance. The food stalls at the festival add to the dreamlike feeling, with their colorful displays and enticing aromas making everything tempting to eat. There were many takoyaki (octopus ball) vendors, and I couldn’t resist buying a box to try. The vendors were very friendly, warmly interacting with me despite the language barrier, which made me feel especially welcomed. As I strolled around, I found myself smiling unconsciously, and the delicious tastes made the evening even more unforgettable. The Tateyama fireworks festival thrilled me. I was shocked that Japanese fireworks can last up to an hour, compared with Taiwan’s major celebrations—like New Year’s Eve—that last only about five minutes. The special thing about Tateyama’s fireworks is that they bloom over the sea, covering a wide area and exploding in every direction at once, leaving you unsure where to look; it felt both novel and magnificent. Watching on the beach, where nearly everyone lies down to view them, felt especially relaxing. The romantic atmosphere of that moment was intoxicating, as if the Tateyama fireworks festival gathered all the elements needed for romance. The stalls at the festival added to the dreamlike feeling, colorful and fragrant, making everything look tempting to eat. 🌊 The waters of Atami are always full of mystery and beauty. Beneath the surface of the water, there is another world that is disconnected from everyday life. 🪸 Brightly colored soft corals, 🐟 schools of fish, wrecks ⚓ that have spent many years quietly in the sea. All of them give you new discoveries and impressions every time you dive. ⚓ Atami Wreck Point is one of the most popular diving spots in Japan. The hull, which is about 80 meters long, lies on the seabed as if welcoming divers, and is home to countless creatures. From Spring to summer, the shadows of the fish become even darker, and 🐠 the feeling of moving through the school that swims around the hull is like being part of the sea. 🚉 Atami is only 90 minutes from Tokyo and has good Access, so it is a nice point that you can easily go on a day trip. 🤿 You will be accompanied by an experienced guide, so even if you are new to wreck diving, you can try it with confidence. The light shining into the interior of the wreck, the soft coral swaying, and the silence drifting on the seabed. All of this is a special experience that you will never get on land. 🍂 Diving shows a different look in each season, so you will never get tired of it no matter how many times you visit. Especially in autumn, the water temperature is high and the transparency is good, making it ideal for taking a closer look at the entire wreck. If you are thinking "I want to do a wreck dive someday", please take this opportunity to go to the waters of Atami. 🌊 Why don't you take a deep breath and step into the blue and quiet unknown? ---------------- 🌈 Hokule'a Shonan is a dive shop located in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture! This is a photo taken at Saizakiura Beaches in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. I went outbound with my colleagues at work to watch the fireworks. It's not like we're always together, and when you look at it from the sidelines, the six of us are hugged, but for some reason, I feel like we were able to stay at the same time and with the same feeling. Each of them lit their own fireworks and enjoyed talking to each other from time to time. It was a moment when things in my heart that I couldn't usually say spilled out.
