On September 13, 2026, the "Ono River SUP Geo Tour: Following the River Town from Inukai Port" was held in Mie Town, Bungoono City, Oita Prefecture. This experiential tour allowed participants to paddle down the Ono River on stand-up paddleboards (SUP), tracing the river and town from the water. On that day, participants not only enjoyed the beauty of nature but also learned about the risks hidden in the river and the knowledge needed to enjoy it safely, while feeling the historical landscapes of the river and region, including the "Inukai Port Ruins." There will be more unique geo-park experience events in the future. For those who couldn't participate this time, we hope you will join us next time. ■■Access to the center of Bungoono City from Fukuoka Prefecture and Kumamoto Prefecture■■■ About 3 hours by car from JR Hakata Station in Fukuoka Prefecture About 2 hours by car from JR Kumamoto Station in Kumamoto Prefecture About 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from JR Beppu Station in Oita Prefecture About 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from JR Yufuin Station in Oita Prefecture ■■■■■■■■■■■■ Introducing recommended sightseeing spots in Bungoono City, Oita Prefecture, Kyushu ■■■■■■■■■■■■

Yabusame (traditional Japanese mounted archery) at Kippo Hachiman Shrine in Kamogawa City Date: Sunday, September 27th, 2023, around 3:30 PM Location: Nakano, Kamogawa City, Chiba Prefecture Parking is available at Nagasa Gakuen and Kokuhobyo Hospital. Expect congestion, so please arrive with plenty of time to spare. The "Yabusame of Kippo Hachiman" is held annually on the last Sunday of September as part of the festival of Hachiman Shrine in the Kippō district, conducted in a traditional manner as a sacred ritual. According to shrine tradition, it dates back to the mid-Kamakura period. Riders gallop along a 210-meter course and shoot arrows at three targets, repeating this three times. A notable feature is the distance to the targets. The primary purpose of the event is to pray for a bountiful harvest and to predict the success or failure of crops. It is believed that the omens from the heavens (divine messages) are conveyed not just by hitting the target but also by the outcome of the arrows, making misses significant as well. The archers (negi) are required to purify themselves through a week of ascetic practices.

This time, I enjoyed a special lunch with my friend at Restaurant Ashiya Takezono in Hotel Takezono Ashiya, fully savoring the traditional Ashiya Takezono experience. According to my friend Hitomi, the first appetizer was eggplant mousse. It had a rich flavor that made it hard to tell it was eggplant at first. Next, the cold Genovese sauce offered a strong basil flavor that spread throughout, along with the deep taste unique to cold dishes. The pike eel cutlet had a mild flavor complemented perfectly by the salty and tangy plum sauce. The steak was cooked medium and was tender, just how I like it. I was able to slowly enjoy the dishes steeped in tradition and elegance. As Hitomi said.

Hello! I'm Minamoto. I've started to feel hints of autumn in the morning and evening breeze. Currently, Senga Falls in Shosenkyo Gorge is experiencing increased water flow, with milky water cascading fiercely down. The thunderous roar shakes the surrounding air, making conversations nearly impossible due to the powerful waterfall. It's truly a breathtaking sight that can only be seen a few times a year! When you visit Shosenkyo, be sure to come and see this view. Additionally, on September 1st of the 8th year of Reiwa, the results of the "Comprehensive Evaluation and Continuation Review for the 8th Year of Reiwa" were announced by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. This time, Shosenkyo has been designated as a "Continuing Certification" for Japan Heritage! Furthermore, it has been recognized as a "Key Support Area" due to expectations for future initiatives as a model for other regions. We aim to continue connecting the charm of Shosenkyo with the future alongside the local community. Thank you for your continued support of Japan Heritage and Mitake Shosenkyo!
