Christmas Wreath Making
Onesmanorgarden, which designs and builds gardens, invited garden planner Yuka Sato as an instructor to host a fun hands-on crafting session.

What we made was a Christmas wreath using eucalyptus leaves and other foliage.

In April we made wreaths from dried hydrangeas, but this time a row of fresh, live leaves was laid out.

Surrounded by the scent of nioi-hiba, we first trimmed long branches into shorter lengths.

From there we made the components to attach to the ring, glued them together, and tied them onto the ring with wire.
We repeated that process over and over until the ring was covered.

The steps are very simple.
However… from start to finish you have to keep the volume consistent, bundle while considering the balance of leaves and berries, and skillfully fill in gaps so none remain.

It really makes you think.

Our fingertips turned dark from the leaf oils as we worked in silence, and after about three to four hours we finished a lush, full wreath!

Adding gold or silver pine cones and wrapping ribbons changed each piece’s final impression during the finishing touches.

Participants took their finished works home and seemed to hang them on walls and elsewhere in their homes.

As time passes and they dry, their color and texture change.

It was a project that let us enjoy qualities different from dried pieces.

A few days ago, we went diving in Atami, Shizuoka, one of Japan’s most popular wreck diving sites just a short trip from Tokyo. The moment we descended, we were surrounded by thousands of colorful fish, swirling around the shipwreck like a living rainbow. The vibrant soft corals covering the wreck made the underwater scenery absolutely breathtaking. 🌈

It was an especially memorable day because one of our guests completed their PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course! 🎉

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Amakusa area designation within Unzen-Amakusa National Park on July 20, 2026 (Reiwa 8), the two-day cycling event "Amaichi Grand Fond 2025: Around Amakusa" will be held 🚴
Grandfond, an Italian term for long-distance cycling events, is not about racing against the clock. Riders go at their own pace, enjoy rest stops and meals at aid stations, and take in spectacular views along the way.

Location: Amakusa area, Kumamoto Prefecture (Amakusa City, Kamiamakusa City, Reihoku)

Introducing the traditional fishing methods passed down by river fishermen in the Shimanto River. We will introduce the important culture of the river basin that is close to the river and appreciates the blessings of the river.

〇Traditional fishing method of the Shimanto River
The traditional fishing method of the Shimanto River has been carefully passed down by Local river fishermen, and it continues to be a part of daily life, changing its shape little by little with changes in the environment. The bounty of the Shimanto River, such as sweetfish, eel, scampi shrimp, and aosanori, adds color to the family table every season, and is deliciously cooked by skilled chefs in Shimanto City to delight the taste buds of tourists. It is also processed in various ways and is popular as a Souvenir.

〇 Look at the river, eat the river
If you take a leisurely stroll along the Shimanto River, you can see eels and scampi shrimp submerged in water from the Submersible Bridge. Depending on the season, you may meet people fishing for sweetfish in the river or fishing in riverboats. There may be a gori fishing device lined with stones on the riverbank, or the harvest of green nori is just taking place at the mouth of the river. If you take the time to look at the Shimanto River, you will encounter something "river and human activities". Kiunkaku Limited time "Japanese Light Garden" "Dark Green BAR 1919"

Built in 1919 as a villa in Atami, the Atami City tangible cultural property "Kiunkaku" retains the history and culture of Atami.
Normally, the museum closes at 17:00, but it will be open at night for two days only, November 1 (Sat) and 2 (Sun), so that you can see the Japan Garden and the Inside the Facility with Light up. If you go south along the Amakusa Saikai coast, you will reach the Takahama area. "Takahama Ware Juho Kiln" is a kiln that plays a part in the history of the Ueda family, which has served as a headman in this area for generations.

Cultivation of grapes flourished in the Takahama area during the Meiji era, and it was widely known as "Takahama grape". It was once said to be a "town covered with grapes", but although it was once on the verge of extinction, it has been revived thanks to the efforts of the local promotion association, and now you can see the scenery of the vineyards here and there in the area.

Speaking of "Takahama Yaki Juyoshi Kiln", the "Mirumon" patterned with seaweed is well known, but the history of Takahama is also alive in the painting of grapes. By the time of the autumn kiln tour, the grape harvest is already over, but it is also a pleasure to look at the grape designs on the vessels and think about the history of this land.
