Annual Event! 【Whooper Swan Migration Date Prediction Quiz】 At the Lake Utonai Wildlife Center, we are conducting a quiz to predict the day the Whooper Swans migrate from Russia to Lake Utonai🦢 From September 1st to 30th, please fill out the designated application form available at the center with your details and your predicted "migration date," and submit it in the ballot box. Those who guess correctly (in case of multiple correct answers, a drawing will be held) will win a prize🎁 Please note that the "migration date" refers to the day the rangers confirm the arrival of the Whooper Swans. *Please be aware that some Whooper Swans may be seen during the summer due to injuries that prevent them from returning to their breeding grounds, so do not confuse them with the migrating ones. Good morning! As of 10 AM on July 7th, the temperature is 17.6℃. Some people might feel a bit chilly, but in recent years, it's not uncommon for Tomakomai to exceed 30℃. It used to be known for its coolness even in summer, making me feel like I've gone back in time. By the way, did you know there's an area in front of the Tomakomai Chūō Library where plants native to Tomakomai are planted?🌿 You can also see the "Yachiyanagi" used in Tomakomai's craft beer "Kamuy Geiru Retara"!🍺

The tap water from Tomakomai City, which boasts the best water quality in Japan for three consecutive years thanks to the Poronai River, is known for its taste comparable to mineral water. First-time tasters may be surprised by the coldness and deliciousness of the tap water. In front of Tomakomai Station, there is a free water supply spot where you can taste the delicious water of Tomakomai. The bottled water "Tomachopp Water" has won a gold medal at the "Monde Selection," an international quality assessment. "Tomachopp Water" is also available for purchase outside of Hokkaido. (See below) Be sure to give it a try! - Dosanko Plaza Yurakucho Store (Tokyo) - Dosanko Plaza Abeno Harukas Store (Osaka) - Nikkō Wano Dai Onsen Yashio no Yu (Tochigi) - Roadside Station Hachioji Takiyama (Tokyo) - Takao-san Sumika (Tokyo)

The magpie often seen in Tomakomai. In Japan, it had been breeding for many years in limited areas like Saga Prefecture, but it has started to be seen in Tomakomai for about 20 to 30 years. About the size of a pigeon, it has a stylish black and white body with long tail feathers that shimmer blue to green depending on the light✨. You might find it perched on power lines near the Tomakomai Tourist Information Center, so be sure to look for it! (Image provided by Roadside Station Utonai-ko)

🌸 The Ezo Yamazakura cherry blossoms in front of Tomakomai Station have started to bloom. 🌸 Today, the expected high temperature is 11°C, making it a bit chilly, and the sunlight is weak, so I couldn't take very good photos. However, I believe you'll be able to see pictures of the cherry blossoms in full bloom soon. The white figure in the background of the second photo? It's actually a bus stop. It is shaped like Tomakomai City's official character, Tomachoppu. If you visit Tomakomai, be sure to check it out in person! 🚢
