Tomakomai-made craft beer is now available for purchase at the Tomakomai Tourist Information Center🍺 We are selling five distinctive varieties, including ones made with Tomakomai-grown haskap and others using Tomakomai-grown yachiyanagi instead of hops‼ *Because these items require refrigeration, we offer ice packs and insulated bags for those carrying them for long periods (each available for a fee). Shimoda Brewing Company opened this spring about a five-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station (●´ω｀●). The brewery is located inside the taproom, so you can enjoy freshly brewed craft beer on the spot— a luxurious moment in Shimoda.🍺✨ In summer, of course, you can savor it casually; on long autumn nights you can savor its depth, and in the dry winter air a refreshing pint will hit the spot.♬ Beers enjoyed with the seasons each have their own character. For my craft beer debut that day, I chose “SUNSET,” which has the lowest IBU (bitterness rating). Its light, crisp profile was perfect for a first glass. Next time, I’m looking forward to deliberately trying a beer with a higher IBU. Tasting different beers each season feels like a way to discover the depth of beer. Today (July 10) I covered a hop harvest 😆 It was my first time seeing this year’s hop field... and it was spectacular✨✨ Straight-reaching vines, healthy dark green leaves, and clusters of hops hanging like little bells…!! “It’s a shame this view will be gone after today!” I said as I gazed with the grower 👀 With preparations complete, it was time to harvest 💪 There were so many cones that even removing the supporting wires was a struggle 💦 We filled bags with the harvested hops, and I worried they might not all fit on the truck we were loading back with today 😂 These hops will be processed into beer with a fresh, lively aroma 🍺 I tasted last year’s brew too — it had a refreshing scent and went down easy 😆👍 I can’t wait to try this year’s beer 😍
