Saijo Shibetsu Store 29th Anniversary Birthday Festival 🎉 Saijo Shibetsu Store celebrates its 29th birthday with a special festival! During the two days of the festival, we hosted a Nishiokoppe Village booth where children could play with wooden toys. Kids enjoyed wooden sandboxes, the Miracle Korokoro Tower, wooden cars, and many other playthings brought from the Forest Museum “Mokumu.” In a corner of the play area, we ran a Setoushi‑kun coloring activity and a castanet-making workshop! Children colored with the original Nishiokoppe Village crayons created as souvenirs for the village’s 100th anniversary—did everyone enjoy them? The castanets were simple in structure: two wooden boards smoothed by the village’s woodworking instructor are stacked and tied together with elastic cord to finish. After decorating their own castanets, participants took their finished instruments home as gifts. Some children played with their homemade castanets right at the booth, filling the air with pleasant wooden tones. Setoushi‑kun seemed delighted to mingle with many children and other local mascots. Thank you to everyone who stopped by! - From the 21st to the 23rd, the birthday festival offers even more exciting events. Check Saijo Shibetsu Store’s account for updates 👀 Come do your shopping at Saijo Shibetsu Store this weekend! #Saijo Shibetsu Store #Birthday Festival #Setoushi‑kun #Forest Museum Mokumu

I went to the Okhotsk Fair! January 14 (Wednesday)–15 (Thursday) I visited the Okhotsk Fair held in the underground pedestrian space Chi-Ka-Ho that connects Sapporo Station and Odori Station! From Nishiokoppe Village, Milk Design Co., which processes grass-fed milk produced in the village, had a booth. They sold milk, yogurt, drinkable yogurt, butter, mozzarella cheese, and string cheese, and gratefully sold out🙌 People who work nearby stopped by during lunch breaks or on their way home, and tourists walking through Chi-Ka-Ho showed interest. I was very happy that people living outside Hokkaido and visitors from abroad picked up Nishiokoppe Village’s specialty products. Our booth was along the walkway, so we only caught a glimpse of the stage, but there were quizzes and PR times from each town, appearances by local mascots, and a performance by laufen, an ambassador for Okhotsk tourism! I enjoyed two days of mingling with other vendors active in the Okhotsk area. Little Setoushi-kun was delighted to take two-shot photos with Okebanbaku-kun and Tsukutsuku Okhotsukun. #Okhotsk #Okhotsk Fair #Milk Design #grass-fed milk #dairy products #Chi-Ka-Ho #underground pedestrian space #delicious

I visited CAPO Ooyachi! Ooyachi sits in Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo City. A shopping complex directly connected to Ōyachi Station sits there. Its name is CAPO. From Friday, December 12th to Monday, December 15th—a four-day span— a market gathered delicious foods from around Hokkaido. Nishiokoppe Village took part during the first two days. Across from us, Rankoshi-machi displayed tempting rice. When I cooked the rice I bought and tried it at home, its sweetness filled my mouth and I smiled. Staff from neighboring Shikaoicho offered samples of kiriboshi daikon (dried daikon) and yogurt, making our booth a soothing spot. What proved popular at the Nishiokoppe booth was, of course, wild mountain vegetables. Murata Foods, Nishiokoppe’s mountain vegetable factory, removes bitterness and pre-cooks mountain vegetables harvested in the village, so they’re ready to use in dishes right away—an attractive feature. Canned venison and bear meat also drew customers’ interest. They are seasoned, so you can simply place them over rice and eat, making it easy to enjoy venison and bear meat. In the refrigerated case, dairy products from Milk Design used grass-fed milk produced in Nishiokoppe were on show. We also displayed standard souvenirs and wooden toys brought from the forest museum Mokumu, offering a wide variety of items across the booth. I especially feel happy when visitors pick up villagers’ handmade wooden cars or pinecone Christmas trees. One of the joys of these kinds of events is encountering tasty and interesting products from other towns and villages. The Naumann Elephant was adorable. Thank you to everyone who visited the Ōyachi CAPO Marche! #Ōyachi CAPO #CAPO Marche #Delicious

Shimenawa-style arrangements completed They turned out absolutely lovely We created shimenawa-style arrangements! A workshop was held to decorate shimenawa with dried flowers, foliage, and berries. Mr. Sato drove all the way from Kitahiroshima to onesmanorgarden, braving winter roads once again. He brought a large supply of materials, so it was fun just to look and fun to choose. While making them, people worried and struggled when things didn’t go as planned, but it was still enjoyable. Seeing a neighbor’s piece, you’d think, “That arrangement works too!” or “That color combination is amazing!”—reactions that escaped everyone’s lips. Even before finishing, imaginations ran wild with thoughts like, “Next time I’d like to try making it this way.” There were three lessons over two days: early afternoon, evening, and the next morning. A total of 18 people took part. Thank you very much 🌿 The next time we’ll see Mr. Sato will be next year――― I wonder when that will be. We’re looking forward to what he’ll create next and what flowers and foliage we’ll encounter… Can’t wait! shimenawa decoration arrangement lesson dried flowers year-end New Year

Tomoya Kaneko Solo Live in Nishiokoppe Born in Shimokawacho, Tomoya Kaneko is active not only as a singer-songwriter but also as a radio host and variety show personality. In Nishiokoppe Village, there was someone who attended the same high school and belonged to the same soft tennis club as Kaneko. That person invited Kaneko and organized the live event. As part of Nishiokoppe Village’s 100th anniversary celebrations, the concert used village subsidies and received support from the organizing committee members as well as many villagers and people from outside the village. At the entrance and in front of the hall at Hotel Rimu, the live venue, life-size (slightly smaller) panels of Kaneko and a welcome board greeted guests. Inside the venue, Tomoya Kaneko fans’ uchiwa fans were placed on each table, and the stage featured illuminated letters reading KANEKO TOMOYA. Kaneko’s humor-filled talk and passionate singing electrified the audience. During the show, as people approached to take photos, a sweaty Kaneko was nearby. Standing alone on stage in front of 110 guests, he shone as he entertained the crowd. He joyfully responded to segments that brought children onstage, and the excited children, even when they weren’t onstage, stood toward the back of the hall and swayed happily. Thank you to everyone who helped with video production and the raffle, and to all who came to the venue. Tomoya Kaneko, thank you for coming!! #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #Tomoya Kaneko #Live #Setoushi-kun #100th Anniversary of Village Founding #Music #Live

Autumn Nishiokoppe Market This year's autumn market was scheduled for Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st. The first day was calm and pleasantly mild, and many people came from inside and outside the village. The vendors were the familiar faces. Udon, soba, tempura, Ezo deer meatballs, and venison braised in red wine were available to eat at the venue Chiffon cake, Setoushi-kun yaki, umeboshi garlic and sweet potato sticks made good souvenirs. At the children's festival, a string-draw lottery appeared, and children pulled the strings with focused looks as they eyed the prizes they wanted. There was also a chance to try silk screen printing. From Seiryu no Sato fresh vegetables were on sale. The variety and low prices surprised everyone. The vegetables are also sold inside the Roadside Station building, so please consider buying some. The market's second day was unfortunately canceled due to severe weather. The next market will be held next spring. After a whole winter and once the snow melts, let's meet again—see you then! #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #Autumn Market #Roadside Station #Kamumu #Flower Park

The Power of Books, the Power to Live A Project in Cooperation with Shanti Volunteer Association "The Power of Books, the Power to Live" Through books, start close to home and then look toward the world— Under that concept, with the help of two people from Myanmar who live in Nishiokoppe Village, we created translated picture books to send to Myanmar. What kind of country is Myanmar? What is its situation right now? First, we spent time learning about Myanmar. Then we held picture-book readings in Japanese and Burmese. After enjoying the differences in Burmese and Japanese pronunciation, it was time to make the translated picture books. Using a Burmese kana comparison chart, we cut and pasted Burmese translation stickers onto every page, repeating the process. At the end, they taught us how to write our own names in Burmese. Having two people who speak Burmese meant we could ask questions when we lost track of where stickers should go, and learn things that you can’t get from reading materials alone, such as stroke order. Thanks to them, we felt Burmese become more familiar to us. The translated picture books we made that day will reach Myanmar around next summer. We entrusted the books to the Shanti Volunteer Association while wondering what Myanmar will be like then and what we ourselves will be doing at that time. #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #Shanti Volunteer Association #Translated picture books #Myanmar #The Power of Books, the Power to Live #Burmese

Outdoor Screening and Star‑Gazing Night On Saturday, May 24th, we spent an evening of film and stargazing at the Forest Park. That said, the sky was unfortunately cloudy that night. It was also a bit chilly. We couldn’t look up at the stars, which was a shame, but the talk given by staff from Nayoro Municipal Observatory Kitāsubaru was fascinating, and they kindly opened their observatory vehicle for about 30 minutes. How long would it take to fly from Earth to the Sun by plane…? They explained the universe in a very easy‑to‑understand way, and both children and adults were captivated. While promoting this event, we discovered that far more people than expected are actually interested in the stars, which was a pleasant surprise. We’d like to create another opportunity to invite the observatory vehicle Polaris No. II again. (Nayoro Municipal Observatory website below) https://www.nayoro-star.jp/kitasubaru/... For the screening, we showed the Japanese‑dubbed version of the French animated film Linda Wants to Eat a Chicken! Amid the absurd twists and turns, I kept mentally reacting to the antics while enjoying a delightful 76 minutes. For movie snacks, Cafe Granch and Nishiokoppe Uenshiri Taiko offered food stalls. Coconut dumplings, pudding, popcorn, mamecha (roasted soybean tea), and hojicha chai. Although the stalls were run by village residents, they offered some rarely seen menu items, and thanks to that the event was a big success. This was Nishiokoppe Village’s first outdoor screening. Despite weather concerns and other uncertainties, we managed to hold the event. Alongside this program, we inflated the bouncy dome until 9:00 p.m., and the children kept jumping for a long time—apparently bouncing at night feels different from daytime. Thank you to everyone who came, and to everyone who lent their support to make the event happen! #Nishiokoppe Village #Forest Park #Hokkaido #Outdoor Screening #Linda Wants to Eat a Chicken! #Stargazing #Nayoro Municipal Observatory #Kitāsubaru #Observatory Vehicle Polaris No. II #Cafe Granch #Nishiokoppe Uenshiri Taiko

Playing with Kendama Ken-chan From Atsuma Town Kendama Club Kendama Ken-chan, also known as Mr. Retsu Saito, came to visit us! Kendama fun isn’t just about placing the ball on the cups or spearing it on the spike. A unicorn balancing the kendama on its forehead. Stacked kendama play with multiple kendama piled up. Of course, it’s not only solitary play. One game challenges you to keep your ball on your cup while trying to knock other people’s balls off. Two players sit facing each other and gently tap the balls together to see if they collide—this play reads like a little fortune-telling game. There are many ways to play. We also saw lots of different kinds of kendama! Some have many balls, some have square balls, and they range from large to small. Just getting the ball to land on the cup made adults put on proud faces or smile with delight— it was a moment that revealed their innocent side. Kendama Ken-chan Thank you for making everyone laugh, from little kids to grandmothers, with your kendama!! Please come again—😆 #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #kendama #Atsuma Town #Kendama Club #Community Education Course #Council of Social Welfare #Community Revitalization Support Center

[The moon has risen again] Saturday, November 9 Readings by the teachers (and in the village) The curtain has been drawn. This year, following on from last year, this is the second reading of the play. The subject was "The Tale of Taketori". The outfit is old-fashioned, but the content is comical. Dare to incorporate metallic sounds and guitar tones into the sound effects, etc. It was sprinkled with gimmicks to express the worldview. In a short training period There were only a few days when everyone was able to participate in practice. It was a long 50-minute performance. I hope that the audience will stay with us until the end. It was funny, it made me laugh and cry, etc. I was glad to hear your feedback. Cast members were: Nishiokoppe Elementary School teachers, Town hall staff (this trio is Popular in some areas), And it was a high school student who saw last year's recitation play and said, "I want to come out!" At the end of the day's work I wondered what next year's recitation play would be like. I'm itching now. If you would like to appear, please contact us Anytime! #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #Teachers' Recitation Drama #Recitation Drama #Taketori Monogatari #Princess Kaguya #Aliens and Humans #Apollo 11 #Kitchen Garden #Pharos is very active again this year

Sweet Potato Dig in the Next Town By chance we had the opportunity to go to Takinoue to dig sweet potatoes! At the elementary school in Nishiokoppe this school year they have one half-day of morning classes each month. With the afternoons free, the Pomme members planned something to make the children excited. Together with elementary students and a few preschoolers, we boarded the village bus and set off for Takinoue. Riding the bus together felt like a field trip, and everyone already looked happy. When we arrived at the field and saw the sweet potatoes, both children and adults were surprised by their size! Each child could dig up two plants to take home, so after choosing their spots, the digging began. I snapped a photo of a first grader and a sixth grader straining in the same posture as they tried to pull a potato from the soil. Using tools like shovels where needed, the bags we brought filled up in no time. Some sweet potatoes were too big for one person to pull out, and there were moments when four people had to pull together. Thank you for the sweet potato digging experience and for providing the sweet potatoes! There may be a bonfire event in the village in October, so we look forward to enjoying warm, fluffy sweet potatoes. #Nishiokoppe Village #Harvest experience #Sweet potatoes #Takinoue #Bus field trip #Sweet potato digging #Pomme #Handmade candied sweet potatoes were a big hit

【Flower Park LIVE "KAMUon"】 We greeted September 22nd with our hearts pounding, wondering whether it would rain. We held the live event "KAMUon" inside the Flower Park at the Roadside Station Kamu. A breezy autumn wind swept through the garden. On that day, all kinds of sounds filled the wide space surrounded by nature. Elementary school bands and dancers stole the show, a unit captivated us with original songs, and idol Goichi delivered an hour full of cuteness and fun. A boy shared mysterious sounds and strange stories, someone memorized and read essays aloud in a lovely voice, and another person read a picture book accompanied by the koto’s tones. We are truly grateful to all the performers. Every act held our attention—what wonderful stages they were! *** We wanted visitors passing through the Roadside Station to enjoy the attached garden. With that in mind, we decided to try an event that would make people want to step into the garden, and planned this live. For venue preparation, the gardener tidied the paths and stage area, and on the day staff and performers arrived early to set up. The children’s fair popped out from the market area and enlivened the event with a mobile gacha machine and candy fishing. *** The Flower Park can be enjoyed through Sunday, October 20th. Come relax in the autumn garden. #Nishiokoppe Village #KAMUon #Roadside Station #Kamu #Regional Revitalization Cooperation Team #Flower Park #Autumn Marche #Live Event #Ritts Pritz Khao Man Gai #Pipopapo #LOCKHAMA #Original Song #Kitami #Goichi #Kuma Robo #Yura Henmi #Otoineppu #High School Student #Villager A’s Reading #Essay #Koto and Picture Book Time #Mizunara no Inochi #Mochi Mochi no Ki

[Autumn-Sky Market] Autumn markets often bring rain and chilly winds. This year was rare: the sun watched over us on both days. The market took place on September 22 and 23, and many people attended on the 22nd, the middle day of the three-day holiday. The soba and udon noodles sold out mostly on the first day alone, wiping out two days' worth of noodles. The chiffon cakes sold only at the event were so popular that they sold out by midmorning on both days. The piping-hot Ezo deer meatballs and venison braised in red wine were comfortingly warm and delicious. Vegetable stalls came from Seiryu no Sato, with rows of green onions, daikon radishes, and potatoes, and many people bought them as souvenirs. The children's festival booths were mobile on the first day and set up next to the Ezo deer meatballs on the second day, adding to the market's lively atmosphere. For 100 yen, kids could try the candy-fishing game three times, and a little expert who had the knack appeared, catching four sweets in one go. There was also a sales corner for ume and tea, making the market even livelier. Thank you to everyone who came! #Nishiokoppe Village #Market #Autumn #Roadside Station #Kamu #three-day holiday #Ezo deer meatballs #venison braised in red wine #Yume-mura Mori no Garden #soba and udon #chiffon cake #Setoushi-kun-yaki #Seiryu no Sato #vegetable sales #Puppet Theater Circle Doremi #children's festival booths

Kemono Night On the night of the mid‑autumn full moon (or so we thought—turns out it was actually the next day) Kemono Night returned after several years. Centered on the Minami family, dairy farmers in Nishiokoppe, and the guesthouse GA.KOPPER, a handful of Nishiokoppe locals and visiting chefs from nearby areas, with the cooperation of musicians, came together for a feast. Eating what was once alive and so carrying on life itself Around a firelit banquet we spent an evening giving thanks for life and the producers. Before we knew it, what had been just a sheet of plywood was adorned with deer and bear, providing warmth. Chilly but wrapped in clear air, the warm, richly flavored soup was superb. Deer, bear, sheep, cattle, plus vegetables and cheese We savored the gratitude of tasting locally harvested ingredients and the luxury of those ingredients becoming truly delicious dishes through the chefs’ wisdom and skill. Food that brings people together. Will the people who gathered that night meet again somewhere down the road? Thanks to the producers and everyone who came together that night. #Nishiokoppe Village #Kemono Night #GA.KOPPER #Ohtakoji #Yukiya Taneishi #RIDE #DJKATSU #Jomon Taiko #Yoshito Yamamoto #Kiichi Ninomiya #Megumi Takatsuka #mikachup #moor #Quite Hot #Makiya‑to Minaga #Higuma Taiko

“Mom”’s CD Debut On the night of Saturday, June 15, friends and fans gathered to celebrate someone’s CD debut, joined by a star-studded lineup and about 70 audience members. The debut artist was Keiko Takahashi. Born and raised in Nishiokoppe Village, she raised five children and has also performed widely as a skoppu shamisen (shovel shamisen) player. Her meeting with singer-songwriter Riku Nakanishi inspired Keiko’s songs, and after six months of intensive training she reached the milestone of a CD debut. She had thought, “I will never sing in front of people in my life,” but listening to a song that reflected her own experiences stirred a desire to sing, she said on stage. On the night of the CD debut, the stage featured guitarists active in the village and the skoppu shamisen players and singers who have performed with Mom. Amid laughter, applause, and occasional call-and-response, the final performer—Mom—confidently sang her song. Some long-time acquaintances were in the audience, and the venue felt lively and warm. The CD is currently being sold by hand. Online sales are planned for the future. Once again, congratulations on your debut, Mom!! Thank you to all the performers for a wonderful stage. #Mom #Mom’s youth is now #CD debut #CD release event #Tour #Nishiokoppe Village #Congratulations

We would like to express our deepest sympathies on the occasion of the recent Noto earthquake. Before I took the high school entrance exam, I also prayed from the bottom of my heart not to give up hope for those who were victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, whose houses were destroyed, and who were evacuated to the gymnasium of my junior high school and the houses of relatives. A light shining for the future 2024 Kobe Luminarie

Teachers’ Read-Aloud Play They spent only three weeks rehearsing. In that short time, elementary and junior high school teachers gathered in the elementary school gym after work to do warm-ups, voice exercises, and acting practice. Holding scripts, they conveyed the story through a read-aloud play. Reading, projecting the voice, and performing the narration. They considered the intention behind each line and who it was addressed to. They asked how best to read each passage so it would reach the audience. With each rehearsal, the tones of the teachers’ voices grew richer and reached the ear more deeply. When they moved to stage rehearsals, tension and excitement filled not only the cast but the staff as well. Looking back, the final week’s push felt truly intense. We were delighted that not only the teachers’ former pupils—elementary and junior high students—but people of many ages came to watch. On a stage lit by a pale pink moon, wrapped in the sound of guitar and violin, they delivered a confident read-aloud performance. Thank you very much.
