[English/Japanese] I would like to introduce "Nekoyaki" at a Japanese confectionery store called "Nekoma" located in "Soto Terrace," a spot that promotes traditional culture in Hachioji, which I wrote about in a previous article. This wagashi is very delicious with lots of sweet bean paste stuck inside. The face of the cat in this "Nekoyaki" is said to be modeled after a beckoning cat (cat figurine) that survived the Hachioji air raid. The beckoning cat is displayed in a store near this "Soto Terrace. There are several places and things related to the war in Hachioji. At our Japanese language school, we sometimes talk about the Hachioji Air Raid in class. Why don't you come and learn Japanese in a city with a rich history? I will introduce "Nekoyaki" at a Japanese confectionery shop called "Nekoma" in the spot "Kuwato Terrace" that transmits the traditional culture of Hachioji, which I wrote about in the previous article. This Japanese confectionery is very tasty with a lot of red bean paste inside. The face of the cat in this "Nekoyaki" is said to be modeled after the beckoning cat (cat figurine) that was burnt out during the Hachioji air raid. Maneki Neko is displayed in a shop near this "Kuwato Terrace". There are several places and things related to the war in Hachioji. Even in our Japanese school, we sometimes take up the Great Hachioji Air Raid in class. Why don't you learn Japanese in a city with a long history?

[English/Japanese] I visited Soto Terrace, a spot that opened last November to promote Hachioji's traditional culture. It is a 7-minute walk from Hachioji Station. You can reach it by passing through a small street in Hanamachi. I visited at night so it was very quiet, but I heard it is very lively on weekends and holidays with events. There is a nice store and I bought some cute sweets. I will report on the sweets I bought next time. Hachioji is an old town, so there are many events and places that convey traditional culture. I think it's a great city for foreign students to learn about Japanese culture! [English/Japanese] To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the railroad business, JR East is developing "Pokégenic", a photogenic spot shooting with various Pokémon at stations and Shinkansen stations in JR East area. Found this photo spot in Hachioji! It's cute. By the way, the anime popular among our students is "Doraemon. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the railway, JR East Japan is developing "Pokegenic" that allows you to take photogenic spot photos with various Pokémon at stations and bullet trains in the JR East Japan area. [English/Japanese] The other day I bought a French pastry called "Galette des Rois" at "Patisserie Tatsuya Sasaki" just a 4 minute walk from Nishi Hachioji! It is famous in France as a cake eaten on January 6. The cake is not only delicious but also enjoyable, as there is a ceramic doll inside the cake and the person who wins it can become a king. What do you do on New Year's in your country? Most of our international students have their New Year's in February or April! They have a very lively time, eating the country's traditional food and having festivals. When a new year starts, you will feel renewed 😊We wish you all a happy new year! The scenery changes even more from the entrance of the sanctuary of Mt. Takao, Joshinmon. Joshinmon is a torii gate in the form of "Ryobe torii". Mt. Takao Yakuoin is a temple, but there is a torii gate and other Shinto-Buddhist customs. In the past, shrines and temples were not separated, so I think that Mt. Takao is not something special, but that this is what it should be. In the Shinhendo Hall near the Jōshinmon Gate, the Great Bodhisattva (Performer) is enshrined. If you walk a little past the Shinhendo Hall, you will find "Otokozaka" and "Onnasaka". Onnozaka is gentle, but men's slope has 108 steps. 108 is the number of disturbing emotions. The cliff in front of Otosaka was very tasteful. The mountains are beautiful everywhere, and no matter where you cut them, they become picturesque. I love you, Mt. Takao!

#When you climb up the Otokozaka slope of the Mt. Takao Mountain Trail No. 1, you will find a white #Agogue gate with the word "suffering" expressing it. It was in the back of this that there was one of the best power spots on Mt. Takao. It was written on the sign to walk along the Three Cs road while trying to erase disturbing emotions. After passing through the Three Cs Road, you will see beautiful white buildings. This is a stupa that contains the bones of Buddha #stupa. Since it was sent by the royal family of Thailand, I am convinced that it is such an exotic and beautiful structure. Just looking at Kannon-sama on both sides of the stupa is refreshing. On the left is #Childcare Kannon. Holding a baby like the Virgin Mary. This photo shows Mr. #Kannon who is standing on the right. Coupled with the camellia blooming behind (I went in April), its beauty stopped moving. If you want to climb it, please go through the gate of suffering, walk along the Three Cs Road, and meet the beautiful Kannon-sama.

Takaoyamaguchi Station, the entrance to the Takao Mountain climbing area, is lined with many restaurants. Tororo (grated yam) has long been eaten around Mt. Takao, and there are many restaurants where you can enjoy tororo cuisine. I ate grated yam on the way home from a recent excursion. Tororo has a soothing effect on a tired body. If you are tired after climbing a mountain, you should definitely try it.

From the summit of Mt. Takao in Hachioji City, you can see "Diamond Fuji" as the sun sinks into the crater of Mt. Fuji, which has been registered as a World Heritage Site, on December 17 (Sat) ~ 25 (Sun), 2022 (around the winter solstice in December every year). It is a precious and mysterious sight that can only be seen for a few days in one year, even for a few minutes. You can see Diamond Fuji depending on the weather, so please check the weather forecast before visiting. Mt. Takao can be reached in one hour from central Tokyo, and there are cable cars and lifts to the mountainside, so you can easily visit it. It is very cold in winter now, so please wear warm clothes.

[English/Japanese] Tengu-yaki, a souvenir I bought on a field trip to Mt. Takao. It is shaped like a tengu, a demon said to live in Mt. I thought the filling was red bean paste, but it was made of crushed black beans, and the elegant sweetness was very delicious. Our school is located at Nishi-Hachioji Station, next to Takao Station. It took first place in the recently announced "Really Comfortable City to Live in Ranking". Nishi-Hachioji is located along the Chuo Line, which connects to Tokyo and Shinjuku, between Hachioji, which is convenient for shopping, and Takao, which is rich in nature. It is recommended for its many supermarkets and hospitals, and inexpensive rent 😊. The souvenir "tengu yaki" that I got when I went on an excursion to Mt. Takao. [English/Japanese] Hachioji is famous for Mt. Takao. Takao can be seen from the school. The other day I went up Mt. Takao on a school excursion. The autumn leaves were still in full bloom and the view from the lift was very nice. You can also enjoy the scenery on the way to the top of the mountain, including discovering a rare cedar tree. It was a beautiful day, so we could see Mt. I recommend visiting on weekdays when there are fewer people. Speaking of Hachioji, Mt. Takao is famous. Mt. Takao can also be seen from the school. [English/Japanese] Across the street from the school is Koujiya Hachioji, a store specializing in rice koji. Rice koji is rice malt, which is made by propagating fungi on cooked rice, and is used in a variety of Japanese dishes. It was very cold in Hachioji today, so I ordered a rice koji smoothie (hot). The gentle sweetness made my cold body feel warm and refreshed. In Japan, both adults and children often drink amazake, which is made from rice malt, in winter. 【English/Japanese】 I went to the rooster market in Hachioji with some of my students! There is an Otori Shrine about a 5-minute walk from Hachioji Station. I was impressed by the lucky and gorgeous decorations. Moreover, the sight of shopkeepers calling out good luck to customers who buy them was just like Japanese culture, and the students were very excited. On the way home, we bought a specialty of the rooster market, kirisansho (rice cakes covered with a spice called sansho). It was very delicious. There are two more rooster fairs to come. We hope you will visit the rooster market as well. I went to the Hachioji Tori no Ichi with my students! There is Otori Shrine about a 5-minute walk from Hachioji Station. The prices are all one coin and even better, they were very tasty 😊My top recommendation is the cream soda. You can have your favorite color juice made. There are many international students who would like to do a homestay. However, due to the corona, they don't have a chance to do a homestay, so I recommend this kind of old house café to such students. Cafe Oga is a 10-minute walk from Hachioji Station. Hachioji Ramen is a popular local ramen that Hachioji City, Tokyo is proud of. It is a light and gentle ramen based on soy sauce, and it uses chopped onions as ingredients and fat floats on the surface of the soup. Although it is made simple, it has been featured in many media, and it has become a local ramen in Tokyo, with many fans from far away as well as local Hachioji! Hachioji ramen has a long history, and more than 60 years ago, in Showa 34 (1959), a certain shop that ran a delicatessen in front of Kitano Station decided to move to Koyasu Town due to relocation due to land readjustment, so I thought it would be difficult to be a delicatessen because it would be difficult to be a delicatessen. At that time, the mainstream ramen shop was a Chinese restaurant that served food delivery, so the restaurant, which specialized in ramen and tried to make a living only by selling it in-store, went through trial and error to create some characteristics. At that time, I happened to come across a ramen shop with "kizami onions" on a trip to Hokkaido. However, although the ramen I ate in Hokkaido had a good texture, the pungency of the onions could not be removed, and as a result of repeated ingenuity, I came up with the oil as a result of my devise to make a soup that somehow removed the pungent taste without spoiling the texture of the onions. The oil suppressed the pungency of the onions and enhanced the sweetness, and the prototype of today's Hachioji ramen was born.
