Wow this is awesome! Looks like a lot of fun. Japan has a lot of great ski resorts and with winter being pretty harsh this year I bet there's tons of fresh powder on top of the mountains. I've never went mountain climbing like this either. I've went hiking of course but not in snow like in these pictures. I'm more of a camper I suppose though lol. I like the different snowmen in these pictures too, it's pretty cool to see them as, like I've said before, there's not much snow in Tokyo. It's pretty cool they built a small house out of snow lol. It reminds me of the ice chapel in Hokkaido. Hopefully once it's easier to get outside I can go visit a resort like this even just to do some sledding or w/e. Start to lack exercise with being indoors all day everyday ?

Tsuruga Castle in Fukushima! I'd heard of its white walls before, but it looks like winter is doing its best to make it completely white! Apparently Tsuruga Castle was designed after Kurokawa Castle that was sieged some time during the 1,500's. I wonder if the color scheme is true to Kurokawa Castle. It'd be interesting to know if there was some sort of tactical reason for an all-white castle. In a snowy region I could see it acting as a sort of camouflage but who knows. You can also barely see what looks like a shachihoko on the roof if you zoom in which is pretty neat. Apparently the inside of the castle has some mannequins set up with guns showing how the arrow-slits, or in this case gun-slits, would have been used. There's also other mannequins that show them being used for rock dropping as well. Warfare has come a long way since then?

Really been loving the snowscapes on here recently. Never got the chance to visit Nyuto Onsen when I was in Akita but I had some friends who went and they all said it was amazing. I can imagine how nice some warm hot springs would be in the middle of a heavy winter like this too lol. Planning on visiting Akita when I get the chance again (probably going to be a while) so I'll have to stop by for a dip if I get the chance. The thing I really loved about Akita was seeing all of the natural landscapes. All the rice paddies and natural greenery was really something else. I remember when I went to Kakunodate and saw the samurai houses there was a small mountain with some castle ruins on top and it had a really good view of the area from the top. It was also spring when I went so I got to see the cherry blossoms on the river bank which were incredible too... overall great place

Nito Onsen Village in Akita Prefecture.
In the middle of a winter night in January, the orange of the flame created a warm feeling in the old-fashioned wooden inn. This is winter ?? in Japan

It's like a winter wonderland! Looks really cold though lol. I'd seen on the news how bad the snow was getting in parts of Akita, especially Yokote but it looks like it's just cold everywhere this year. The plus side is Japan has a lot of beautiful scenery so when the snow starts to pile up like this it makes for some beautiful photography (like we're seeing here). I really like this photo though, you can practically hear how quiet and cold it is. It almost makes me want to get outside and go camping with a big ol' campfire and a heavy duty tent. I know my girlfriend would never agree to go though to a place with this much snow though ?Hope everyone is staying safe from the cold! Be sure to take some photos of the beautiful scenery while you can though. No snow here in Tokyo though (unfortunately??).

Fine snow began to fall. When the wind stops, snow accumulates even on the flatlands of Niigata.

This is a really fitting video for this time of year. It's already getting really cold and beautiful snowscapes are starting to pop up all over the place. It's pretty unfortunate that coronavirus has made everything so hectic around the world, as I would have really loved to go to the Sapporo Snow Festival this year. Unfortunately it was cancelled, which is probably for the best, but maybe I can go check it out next year. I'd love to head over to Akita to check out some of the igloos too, as that sounds really interesting and I don't know much about the area. This article has a ton of places that I'll be adding to my list of travel destinations for the future! Idk about the snowboarding though, it's been a few years since I last went and I don't think it'd be too good on my knees lol! I hear the slopes in Japan are great though, so who knows, I might give it another shot if I head out to Zao!

Wakayama Prefecture, Koyasan Okunoin. It is believed that Kazuhisa Kukai still lives there and continues to meditate in hopes of world peace and the happiness of the people, and many visitors visit not only from Japan but also from overseas. There are a huge number of events in Koyasan throughout the year, but among them, "living sacrifice" is one of the ceremonies that has been continued for 1,200 years from the time of entering the temple to the present. This is a ceremony to deliver food to Kukai, who is waiting at the shrine, and is held twice a day. This is a photo of a live sacrifice on a snowy day.

「Go through the snow scene」 Location: Ohoke Station, Nishiiya, Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture * ~A Millennium Story of Passing through the Snowy Landscape~ JR Shikoku's sightseeing train "Shikoku Mannaka Millennium Story," which began operation on April 1, 2017, was taken during a test run (January 24, 2017) before the start of operation. I still remember being fascinated by the beautiful train I saw for the first time in front of me in the snowy scenery of Oboke Gorge.
