Former Hyuga Family Atami Bettei (Former Hyuga Bettei) Toshibei Hyuga, who was active in Asian trade, completed the construction in 1936 (Showa 11) as a separate residence. The design of the wooden two-story main house is by Hitoshi Watanabe, who is known for his designs for Wako in Ginza, Tokyo, the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo, and the Aichi Prefectural Office. The basement was designed by Bruno Taut, a world-renowned German architect, and is the only surviving architectural work left by Taut in Japan. It consists of three rooms: a social room with plenty of bamboo and paulownia, a Western-style room with a staircase as part of the room, and a Japanese-style room, and is designed with the beauty of Japanese style such as Katsura Imperial Palace and Ise Jingu Shrine in mind. After Mr. Hyuga's death, it was carefully used as a recreation center for a private company, but in 2004 (Heisei 16), when it was facing the danger of demolition, it was acquired by Atami City with a donation from a philanthropist living in Tokyo. In 2006, it was designated as an important cultural property of Japan. More than 80 years have passed since its completion, and there has been an urgent need for repair projects to improve damage and earthquake resistance due to deterioration over time, and a large-scale conservation and repair project was carried out from FY2018 (Heisei 30) to FY2021 (Reiwa 3). In August 2022, it was reopened to the public with as much preservation and reproduction as possible of the condition it was in at the time of construction. * The tour is a complete advance reservation system (online reservation only). For details and reservations, please check the Atami City Office website. Atami Nanayu When you walk around the city, you can discover the steam gushing out from various places on the slopes. It is a source called "Atami Nanayu". It is also recommended to visit the source and experience the long history and hot spring atmosphere. (Commemorative Stamps are installed on each of the seven information boards.) ――[Oyukan Spring] has been a world-famous self-gushing spring for a long time. It is said that the "big hot water" gushed out six times during the day and night, and the ground seemed to shake as hot water and steam alternately erupted violently. It gradually decreased from the middle of the Meiji era and stopped in 1923 (Taisho 12)) (it sometimes erupted again during a major earthquake), but in 1962 (Showa 37), it was preserved as a cultural property of the city and continues to this day. * Currently, hot water is artificially gushed out approximately every 5 minutes, reproducing the appearance of the large hot water gushing of yesteryear. Address: 〒413-0018 Lodging Town, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture Phone number: 0577-86-6232 (Cultural Facilities Office, Lifelong Learning Division, Atami City) Access: About 20 minutes on foot from JR Atami Station / About 20 minutes Use Yu ~ Yu ~ bus from JR Atami Station→ Get off at Oyuma Kosen → about 3 minutes on foot Parking/None ●"Ozawa no Yu" The hot springs in the gardens of Yazaemon Sawaguchi, Bunjiro Fujii, and Sanzaemon Yonekura were called "Heizaemon no Yu", but the local people called it "Ozawa no Yu" because it was located in Ozawa. It is said that, as with "Seizaemon's hot spring", if a person called it in a loud voice, it would spring up a lot, and if a person called it in a small voice, it would spring up small. In this Ozawa hot spring, you can make and eat hot spring eggs with the steam that blows out. Locals also say that it is delicious, and it is a little famous place in Atami. * Renewal completed on July 1, 2023. There are now two steaming kettles and a new bench. Address: 〒413-0013 Ginza-cho, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture (in front of Tenjin Shuten) Phone number: 0557-86-6218 (Atami City Parks and Green Space Division) Access: About 15 minutes on foot from JR Atami Station Parking lot / There are several paid P cars in the vicinity In addition to these two facilities, there are "Bath Bath Bath", "Sajiro no Yu (Eye Bath)", "Seizaemon no Yu", "Nonaka Yu", and "Kawara-yu". * Atami Nanayu is not a bathing facility.

Izusan Shrine Izusan Shrine is also the birthplace of Izu place names. Since it is the place where Minamoto no Yoritomo and Hojo Masako were united, it is also famous as a shrine of Marriage. In the Edo period, it was called Izu Daigongen, and it is a shrine with a history that Tokugawa Ieyasu also visited. If you climb the long stone steps to the precincts, you can enjoy a wonderful view overlooking Atami City and the sea. It takes about 1 hour to get from the main shrine to the main shrine via the Haruka Shrine, Hakusan Shrine, and the Yumeijin headquarters. It is also recommended to visit the temple while slowly climbing the mountain road. About 800 steps below the main shrine is the Sashiyu Shrine, where the god of hot springs is enshrined. Every year, a grand festival is held for 3 days from April 14 ~ 16, and many people visit. Omiya pine tree Statue of Kanichi Omiya Since the Meiji era, many literary giants have lived in Atami, where they have written masterpieces. Among them, the most famous is the novel "The golden demon(Konjiki Yasha)" by Koyo Ozaki, which was published intermittently in the "Yomiuri Shimbun" and "New Novels" for six years from the 30th year of Meiji 30. The song "Omiya pine tree" named after this novel and the song that begins with "Walking on the coast of Atami..." became one and spread explosively, and the main character "Kan'ichi and Omiya" became a presence that captured the hearts of the people as if he were a real person. The "Kan'ichi and Omiya Statue" and "Omiya pine tree" are located along the national highway on the coast and are visited by many people as tourist photo spots. Jukoku Pass It is said that the Jukoku Pass got its name because it saw ten countries (Izu, Sagami, Suruga, Totoumi, Kai, Awa, Kazusa, Shimousa, Musashi, Shinano and Goto< Oshima, Niijima, Kozushima, Miyakejima, and Toshima >). From the top of Mt. Nichikane, you can see Mt. Fuji to the north, Suruga Bay to the west, and Sagami Bay to the east. It seems that there have been many people who have tried to paint this vision with a paintbrush for a long time, but it is said that they could not stand the size and beauty of this project. There is a cable car ride to the top of the mountain and back. It is about one and a half hours from Himenosawa Park, and you can also visit it by trekking while enjoying nature. Azaleas are in full bloom in spring, a cool breeze blows in summer, ripple pampas grass ears flutter in autumn, and warm plateau sunshine welcomes you in winter. * "Dog Run in the Sky" has resumed on November 11, 2023! Atami Ginza Shopping Street Ginza Street in Atami was once crowded with many tourists as the center of Atami. Use the Atami Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a building that operated as a bank until 1975. The heavy and retro building retains the atmosphere of that time. When you walk along the Ginza shopping street, you will encounter the same Japanese scenery as in the past, such as Dried fish hanging from the eaves, coffee shops that continue to operate as they were in the Showa era, and traditional Japanese confectionery stores. Recently, restaurants that are popular for seafood, cafes using local ingredients, sweets shops such as "Atami Pudding", Matcha "Atami Satori Honten", luxury Montblanc "Raw Silk Kiito", gelato, and guesthouses that offer interaction between locals and travelers have also opened, making it a street where you can feel the renovation. Address: 〒413-0013 Ginza-cho, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture Access: About 20 minutes on foot from JR Atami Station
