Kikuchi Tourism Association offers bicycle rentals. Recently, more people have been using them. This time, we introduce the popular destination, Kiki Castle. Kiki Castle is a mountain fortress built by the Yamato government in the late 7th century, about 1,350 years ago. A prefectural excavation uncovered valuable remains, including the foundations of 72 buildings, a former reservoir, and earthwork embankments. You can also see reconstructed buildings on site. At Onko Soseikan, exhibitions and videos explain Kiki Castle’s history and structure in detail. Excavations have continued since fiscal 1967 to the present. In terms of area, the site is about 12 times the size of the Tokyo Dome. The grounds are very spacious, making them ideal for a walk. Our staff actually visited by electric-assist bicycles. We reached Kiki Castle from Kikuchi City Furusato Sosei Citizen Plaza in about 20 minutes. There are some slopes, but electric-assist bicycles make riding easy. On the site is a café called Kuri to Sora that sells sweets made with Japanese chestnuts. The Mont Blanc soft-serve is especially popular. Please stop by the café to relax during your trip. You can enjoy scenery you don’t usually see. When you visit Kikuchi City, please enjoy a bicycle journey.

Today, June 16th, is "Japanese Sweets Day"! Introducing Japanese sweets and famous confectionery originating in Shobara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. (1) Milk Dango ・ Nostalgic taste that has not changed since the old days A Commitment Gastronomical delicacies made by mixing mochi powder, sugar, Water candy, honey, etc. on a milk base without using a single drop of Water. The nostalgic taste that has not changed since ancient times is popular. Milk Dango is manufactured and sold by Izumi Kowado, a long-established Japanese confectionery store located in Shobara City in northeastern Hiroshima Prefecture. It was released in Showa 9, and since winning a prize at the National Confectionery Grand Competition, it has won numerous honors in various places. It is no exaggeration to say that Shobara's Souvenirs are milk dango, and they have been loved for a long time as a front line. Please enjoy such milk dango as an accompaniment to Tea and danran. (2) Onbashi ・ Famous confectionery raised in Tojo Town that reminds me of Teishaku Gorge Enjodo's "Male Bridge" is derived from the natural bridge "Male Bridge of Teishaku Gorge" in Tojo Town, Shobara City. It is a two-layered confectionery reminiscent of a stone bridge. Underneath, moist cookie dough. On top is a sweet Famous Confectionery raised in Tojo Town with caramel and almond slices on top. At Enjodo, the best Ingredients are carefully selected and examined, and we try to bring out the original taste of confectionery by kneading techniques without using any [artificial synthetic coloring], [chemical synthetic preservatives], [additives such as bleach], etc. (3) Takeya Manju ・ Gentle taste that has continued since the Edo period Shobara City Tojo is proud of its Famous Confectionery of Takeya Manju. Takeya Manju Honpo started making buns in the Edo period. Since its founding, its signature products have been Sake Manju and Takeya Manju made with koji. Sake Manju is made from sake with clean water, and even if you take a bite, it has a gentle taste that you can't think of as a Sake Manju. Since it does not use additives, it can be safely eaten by children and the elderly. (4) Hibagon egg ・ A unique famous confectionery bearing the name "Hibagon" Famous confectionery "Hibagon no Tamago" created by love for the Township. In 1970, when Hibagon was spotted, the confectionery shop "Daikokudo" released "Hibagon Manju". Then, in 2003, I heard rumors of a merger Town/Village city due to the influence of the great merger of the Heisei era, and Squid I thought that "Hibagun" might disappear, so I developed and released "Hibagon no Tamago". It is a three-layered confectionery that imitates an egg consisting of "shell", "white meat", and "yolk". The "shell" consists of cocoa flavor, the "white meat" consists of white bean paste with condensed milk, and the "yolk" consists of yellow bean paste with sweet potato. Along with the appearance, the taste is also very popular. (5) Tabusa Yokan ・Yokan made in the town of Soryo with an elegant taste Carefully selected Hokkaido azuki beans are luxuriously used and carefully made over two days, and the original taste and aroma of azuki beans are brought out with delicious water unique to the countryside. "Taso" is the old place name of the current Soryo Town, and in the Showa era, it was merged with the neighboring Ryōkeson Village to become the Soryo Town, and the place name of Taso disappeared. Tagan Yokan is a confectionery that retains its ancient place name, and is a signature product with a history of more than 130 years, and is a traditional Famous Confectionery. Suwa Tourism Association

Taisha Senbei Suwa Shop On this day, foodie Kawanishi was drawn in by a sweet aroma and visited Taisha Senbei Suwa Shop. Since childhood, foodie Kawanishi has loved Taisha Senbei’s peanut senbei and castella senbei; they are among his favorite treats. Despite being busy, Mrs. Sasaki, wife of President Sasaki, spoke with foodie Kawanishi. Taisha Senbei’s history began with its founding in Shimosuwa Town near the end of the Taisho era, and the shop moved to Suwa City in 1955. The Suwa Confectioners’ Association roster from 2011 lists the founding year as Taisho 10 (1921), but the source of that information seems unclear. Still, you get the sense that Taisha Senbei belongs to Suwa. When people hear Taisha Senbei, don’t they picture the peanut senbei? Actually, the first item sold as Taisha Senbei seems to have been the castella senbei (unofficial). The peanut senbei bears the name “Taisha” on the snack itself, so people naturally imagine Taisha Senbei means peanut senbei. That’s not the case. At first, castella senbei was the product known as Taisha Senbei. Both peanut senbei and castella senbei have been popular signature items since the founding. I learned this only after hearing the story myself! Taisha Senbei’s origin story says the founder had a close relationship with the chief priest of Suwa Taisha’s Lower Shrine at the time. The priest asked the founder to make distributable treats that parishioners could receive during the Onbashira festival. The senbei the shop then made, called Asahi Senbei (today’s castella senbei), was allowed to be called “Taisha Senbei,” and so Taisha Senbei was born. I was deeply moved to finally learn the origin of a name I had wondered about since childhood. The recipes for Taisha Senbei are fixed in their basic proportions, but the craftsmen adjust them daily according to the season, temperature, and humidity. I believe this deep trust in the artisans is why Taisha Senbei has been loved in Suwa for so long. Taisha Senbei’s recommended products are, of course, all of their offerings, but one item that especially caught my eye was the salted yokan with walnuts. They use large walnuts so generously that you can plainly see big chunks of walnut with the naked eye. It’s a must-buy souvenir for walnut lovers!!! The tourist association reports that visitors from other prefectures often buy Taisha Senbei as souvenirs in Suwa, and the taste prompts questions like “Can this be bought online or at department stores?” That’s how popular it is. When you visit Suwa, please pick some up as a souvenir!!! ◎ Taisha Senbei Suwa Shop 📍 5320-9 Nakasu, Suwa City ☎ 0266-53-2777 ◎ Business hours: 9:00 – 17:15 ◎ Closed: Sundays ◎ Parking: About 10 spaces in front of the shop ◎ Website: http://taisyasenbei.jp//

Soft serve ice cream came to Nagawa Have you eaten yet? From April 19 this year, a soft serve ice cream server was introduced to [Nagawa Sansaikan] for the first time in Nagawa, and soft serve ice cream is on sale. When GW was over, I belatedly stopped by Sansaikan to taste soft serve ice cream! In addition to the banners, there is also a poster at the entrance, and those who pass by the Sansaikan may think "Wow!" and many Squid people may know about it because it was featured in MG Press. I immediately ordered soft serve ice cream while talking to Mr. Oishi. It seems that sales are quite good, and not only those who came for sightseeing, but also Local residents and the children of my friends have already eaten it many times. The regular size is 450 yen and the mini size is 250 yen. Especially the mini size is just the right size, and it is perfect for when you want to eat soft serve ice cream but can't eat it all, or when you feel like it's okay to eat a little. Squid may also be good for small children. In the future, they are thinking about topping [blueberries] harvested at Sansaikan Farm for a limited time, so I am looking forward to it. Wouldn't it be nice for my husband and I to have [Soba fruit] and [Sesame] and Nagawa-like toppings? While talking, I tasted soft serve ice cream. Extra Edition: N takamatsu, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture – “Nezame no Toko” On this day, foodie Kawanishi presents an extra edition‼️ I finally visited Nezame no Toko in Agematsu, Kiso District, a place I’d long wanted to see. Nezame no Toko is counted among Japan’s five great scenic gorges and is designated as a National Scenic Spot!!! Before the Meiji era there were no dams, and the rapids of the Kiso River carved this granite. After dams were built, water diversion lowered the Kiso River’s surface, making the rock formations appear even more massive. It seems the site was designated a National Scenic Spot in 1923 and managed as a prefectural park, and in 2020 it was elevated to part of the Central Alps Quasi-National Park!!! You can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall—the scenery changes with the seasons. The river’s blue color shows how clear the Kiso River is. Also, surprisingly, there’s an Urashima Taro legend in landlocked Nagano Prefecture!? I’ve been curious about that for a long time. It’s a truly lovely scenic spot and a good workout too! I think you should avoid going right after rain or wearing clothing that hinders movement. I recommend sneakers and clothes you can move easily in!!! Swimming is prohibited, so please be careful. Second-grade elementary school children can make it to Urashima-dō. Why not visit Nezame no Toko with your children to enjoy the beautiful views!? On the way back, I stopped at Michi-no-Eki Hiyoshi Kisokoma Kogen and bought the station’s limited “morokoshi soft-serve” made with milk from Kaida Kogen! A faint, toasty corn aroma spreads through it—this was the most delicious soft-serve I’ve ever tasted!!! Please enjoy it if you can! From time to time, foodie Kawanishi plans to bring you extra editions like this. ◎ Nezame no Toko 📍 Agematsu, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture ◎ Free parking: Available (check the website below) ◎ Website: https://kiso-hinoki.jp/colibri-wp/tourist/nezamenotoko/...

✨🍴Hiroshima Prefecture — New Restaurant News🍴✨ In spring 2025, a new cozy kominka café opened in Shobara City, Hiroshima Prefecture 😍 Its name is “Tsuchinoko-tei.” Owner Yuki Watanabe, together with her husband and local friends, spent a year renovating the old house, and it has finally opened. Built in Taisho 5 (1916), the 110-year-old kominka blends seamlessly into Shobara’s landscape. The recommended dish is Tsuchinoko-tei’s homemade ramen (750 yen à la carte / 900 yen with coffee). The soy-sauce–based broth offers a comforting richness that appeals to all ages. The handmade chashu is light and easy to eat. The husband, Ippei, is in charge of the cooking; his experience working in restaurants inspired this homemade ramen. Also popular is the daily set meal, limited to 10 servings per day (1,000 yen / +200 yen with coffee). Going forward, they plan to use locally grown Shobara green onions and eggs and vegetables from their home garden. They are also planning to add a bath and sauna on the property, plus accommodations, a BBQ area, and karaoke space — so stay tuned for future developments! 😍✨ For more details about Tsuchinoko-tei, please visit the Shobara Tourist Navi website, the official tourism site for Shobara City, Hiroshima Prefecture ✅

Ramen lovers are Chinabi staff. The other day, I went to "Kagoshima Tonkotsu Ramen Nanshu", which I hadn't visited yet! According to the Information of Tabelog, it seems that it just opened last year in December 2024. The location was There is a along the Koshu-kaido near the Hachioji City Central Library, about a 5-minute walk from Nishi Hachioji Station toward Takao Station. It is about a 1-minute walk from the intersection where Bookoff and Glasses Store are located, along the Megane Store side toward Takao. It may be the first time for the Kagoshima ramen genre. It looks like tonkotsu ramen topped with bean sprouts. When I sipped the soup, I felt that it was light at first, but as I ate it with straight thin noodles, I could feel the pork bone feeling! The flavor of char siu and noodles was firmly attached, and the bean sprouts refreshed my mouth, so I enjoyed it until the end! I would like to revisit it again.

Today, I would like to introduce Hachioji Gourmet! Yesterday was a cold day with rain, so I wanted to eat ramen asexually, so I visited a Minamoto in Misaki Town for the first time in a long time yellowtail lunch! I usually eat it after drinking, but I may have eaten it sober since I was in high school (laughs). This restaurant has a strong image of Sapporo miso ramen, but my recommendation is this Asahikawa soy sauce ramen! It was a m(__)m treat https://hachi-navi.com/gourmet/ramen/279043...
