Kumamoto Amakusa Reihoku Tourism Association

Exhibition Report: We presented new ways of living in Reihoku at the “Discover Amakusa! Amakusa Reihoku Two-Region Living Experience and Exchange Event.” Hello everyone. This is the Amakusa Reihoku Tourist Association. We took part in the “Discover Amakusa! Two-Region Living Experience and Exchange Event” held on Sunday, February 8th. On the day, we met many people who live in urban areas and are highly interested in “two-region living,” maintaining a base in both city and countryside. Booth Highlights Under the theme “Another everyday wrapped in sea and sunset,” we introduced the town’s charms and accommodation options. Particular interest focused on the rich natural environment, seasonal flavors that enhance daily life such as fresh seafood and citrus, and the warm, welcoming nature of the townspeople that greets first-time visitors. Reflections on the Exchange Two-region living offers more than lodging; it’s an experience of blending into the local everyday life. We will continue preparing a welcoming environment that makes visitors want to say “I’m home.” Thank you very much to everyone who stopped by our booth! All of our staff look forward to the day we can meet you in Reihoku.

Tracing the footprints of stories, an adult getaway.🌿 Amakusa Reihoku Literary Walk unearths Reihoku’s literary heritage and proposes a new kind of journey. Recently, with the cooperation of people inside and outside the town, we held a monitored tour📖✨ Literary monuments blending into Reihoku’s beautiful scenery and the landscapes beloved by great writers. As you walk listening to a literary tourism guide’s commentary, the familiar streets begin to sparkle like a novel. A stroll themed around “words” offered a wonderfully indulgent refresh that makes you forget the rush of daily life. From now on, we will prepare to bring this “story” and the landscapes that gave it life to many more people. Look forward to future updates!

On November 19, we held the fourth workshop to develop a sightseeing walking route that lets visitors enjoy “Reihoku’s Literary Treasures,” turning the literary spots and heritage remaining in Reihoku into new tourism resources.

This workshop was the final session. Based on the feedback and ideas we have received so far, we reviewed the proposed route and the draft guide manual again and exchanged opinions with the participants.
We also read works related to Reihoku—Fumiko Hayashi’s Amakusa Nada and Ryōtarō Shiba’s Kaidō o Yuku 17—so participants could feel how the literature still connects with Reihoku today.

Going forward, we aim to develop this into an actual sightseeing tour. We will post progress updates on our website, so please look forward to them.

Note: We are also collecting ideas and useful tips from people who could not attend the workshop to help shape the walking route. Please take part in the survey on our company website’s news section.

Kumamoto Prefecture ranks third in Japan for strawberry production. Original varieties such as yuubeni and hinoshizuku are well known. A strawberry experience event using strawberries will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Using sweet, juicy freshly picked strawberries, you can create a one-of-a-kind original strawberry parfait. This experience offers a special time beyond just strawberry picking. ■ Strawberry picking (all-you-can-eat) First, enjoy all-you-can-eat strawberries at Shichiraku no Sato in Kikuchi City. There are about 11 varieties, including yuubeni, Koiminori, hinoshizuku, Benihoppe, and the white strawberry Angel Night. You can savor their sweetness, gentle tartness, and rich aroma. ■ Strawberry parfait making experience You will make a strawberry parfait using the strawberries you picked. Toride Farm, a popular shop that turns local Kikuchi-grown melons and strawberries into ice cream and soft serve, also offers a unique rice-based ice cream that is delicious and popular. The soft serve made with Kumamoto milk is prepared on the spot by adding ice cream and finishing each one by hand. The highlight of the strawberry parfait is that you can use the fresh strawberries you picked yourself. You can go into the shop kitchen to swirl the soft serve or scoop ice cream yourself with a disher. The combination of strawberries and ice cream is astonishingly delicious. Why not create your own one-of-a-kind original parfait? Date and time: Sunday, March 8, 2026, 10:00–12:30 Location: Shichiraku no Sato (305 Okada, Shichijo-machi, Kikuchi-shi, Kumamoto-ken) Toride Farm For reservations and details, please check here. https://kikuchikanko.ne.jp/archives/featured/strawberry_parfait...

What are classes like at school these days? They say classroom scenes have been changing year by year. Lessons that used to be mostly the teacher talking now actively incorporate group work. Where students once laid out textbooks and notebooks on their desks, teachers and students now use tablet devices, sharing screens and submitting assignments. Why has the teaching style changed, and how else, beyond what’s listed above, has it changed? You can of course read books that explain today’s classes, but why not try experiencing a class yourself? Principal Hama of Nishiokoppe Elementary and Junior High School will be the instructor. Thursday, January 29 6:00 PM–8:00 PM At Hotel Morimu, Nishiokoppe Village, audiovisual room Anyone is welcome to join No reservation required. Organized by: Nishiokoppe Elementary and Junior High School Management Council #Trial class #Principal #Reiwa #Class

A fire burned at Tomioka Elementary School for the first time in about 20 years. The children who once took part are now parents, passing the tradition to today's kids. On Sunday, January 18, the "Dondoya"—held at Tomioka Elementary School for the first time in about 20 years—took place. The familiar crack of bamboo snapping, "Bachi bachi!" Beyond the height of the flames, the crowd's warmth was overwhelming…! They grilled mochi over the embers, enjoyed steaming roasted sweet potatoes, and sipped pork miso soup that warmed the body. Watching children stuffing their cheeks with mochi they had toasted themselves, I felt reminded of the importance of keeping this tradition alive. From the lighting at 9 a.m., the happy hours passed in a flash. Thank you so much to everyone in the community who planned and prepared the event. Winter in Tomioka is the best. If you missed it, why not join the circle next year? If you want to help preserve Reihoku's traditions, please follow us via the icon at the top left to show your support. We’re sharing the charms of Reihoku! ✨
