Introduction to Flowers at Kamu June 6 (Friday) The rain from the previous day had cleared, and the sun showed its face. I went to take pictures of the flowers at the Roadside Station Kamu Flower Park. Hellebores and pulsatillas that bloomed a month ago were bearing fruit, and I spotted buds that are about to open. Fukoji Hydrangeas ❚ Bloom Status as of June 10, 2025 Fukoji Temple is in Asaji Town, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture. It is also famous as a hydrangea sightseeing spot. The hydrangeas are currently about 50–60% in bloom. Blooming has progressed considerably. We will update the bloom status as it changes. Divers who protect the ocean are cool after all! Hello, I'm Hokule'a Shonan! Today, I'd like to tell you a little bit about what we're working on, Dive Against Yellowtail. The other day, my friends and I dived together into the sea in Shizuura, Shizuoka Prefecture, and dived to collect garbage in the water. Take a look at this group photo taken after the activity! Isn't everyone really cool? The reason we think it's "cool" isn't just how it looks. I hope that we will come to an age where "picking up trash" will be taken for granted and seen as something to be proud of. That's what we have in mind. 🌊 Diving is a special time to connect with the sea. When you dive, you will be soothed by the tranquility and beauty of the water. You will also notice that there is garbage produced by people in the sea. Plastic bags, plastic bottles, pieces of fishing gear... There is also a reality that makes you want to look away. In such a situation, there is something that only divers can do. We believe so. Picking up trash can be sobering. But it's an action to protect the oceans of the future. And don't you think it's very cool? 🪸 Protecting the ocean should be part of the appeal of diving. Protecting the environment isn't just for special people. There are many things that you can feel and do because you are a diver. For those of us who live with the sea, the act of "protecting" is Nature. I visited on June 6th and was able to see cherry trout (sakuramasu) making their way upstream! Saikai City in Nagasaki Prefecture faces the sea on three sides and offers breathtaking views from its hilltop parks. 1. Hachinokeyama Park Address: 1639 Hirayama-go, Seihi, Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture 851-3425 There are various theories about the origin of the name “Hachinengatake.” One story says eight Genji warriors who came chasing Heike fugitives took shelter from a sudden storm in a rock cave but were killed by a landslide; another says eight warriors were wrestling here. From the observation deck you can see the Ajiro Peninsula, shaped like a dragon’s head, and the islands floating in Omura Bay. From the shore outward, the islands appear in this order: Heta-Abo Island → Oki Anbo Island → Tamago Island → Yakeshima Island → Chidori Island → Dojima → Nagashima → Yahazushima Island. Legends of Heike fugitives remain on Tamago Island and Chidori Island. After the Heike defeat at the Battle of Dan-no-ura, Tamayorihime, who was the wife of Taira no Atsumori, her attendant Princess Chidori, and Tamayorihime’s wet nurse Yodo Hime are said to have fled here but been captured. The three women were reportedly separated and housed apart. A stone shrine still stands on Tamago Island, where Tamayorihime is enshrined. On Chidori Island a small natural stone carved with “Spirit of the Plovers” is said to be venerated. Also, Nagashima is known as the birthplace of round pearls. 2. Shihondo Park Address: Shirasaki-go, Seihi, Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture 851-3312 This park lies on the western shore of Omura Bay in Seihi. The park also contains historical sites such as Okoshikake-ishi, the stone where Fujiwara Naozumi (the ancestor of the Omura clan) is said to have landed and sat on his way to Omura, and Ochanomizu, a spring where he is said to have drawn water to offer tea, offering a tangible sense of history.
