The endless mountain foliage of Nagano prefecture’s Lake Momiji unfurls in a sweeping colors of red, gold, and ember-orange, the autumn canopy spilling down the slopes until it kisses the mirrored surface of the lake.

Autumns in nagano is amazing. There are multiple location to see autumn colors in Nagano prefecture but lake momiji is exceptionally good one. The running water and fall colors look stunning.

When setting this destination in your car navigation system, please register Makino Pickland at 0740-27-1811.
Along Shiga Prefectural Road Route 287 Koaraji Makinosawa Line, which continues from the town road Sawamakino Line that runs through Makino Pickland, about 500 metasequoia trees line a 2.4 km stretch. They harmonize with the distant Nosaka Mountains and create a highland-like approach to Makino Kogen.

<Autumn Foliage> Typical peak season: late November to early December

During the autumn foliage season from mid-November to mid-December, congestion occurs on Prefectural Route 287 Namiki Road and surrounding roads on weekends between 11:00 and 18:00.

Please help ease traffic by visiting on weekdays when it is less crowded or by using the Makino Kogen Free Temporary Parking at the north end of the avenue. If you use public transportation, take JR Makino Station and then the Takashima City Community Bus Makino Highland Line.

The avenue and nearby roads are vital local residential streets.
Please do not park or stop on the road.
The surrounding roads are residential streets.
Slow down and watch for pedestrians.
So that as many people as possible can enjoy the area, follow photography etiquette and avoid dangerous actions such as stopping on crosswalks or stepping into the roadway to take pictures.

Edogawa riverbank, the ridgeline of Mount Fuji stretches up into the sky

Ryosokuji Temple, known as the Maple Temple, is a famous spot for autumn leaves.
About 150 maple trees line the approach from the main gate and throughout the temple grounds, their vivid crimson coloring the temple.

Lake Momiji in Nagano prefecture is one of the best autumn spots in Japan. It looks specifically beautiful during sunset.

After visiting the local Tarobogu Shrine, my wife walked briskly down the tunnel of autumn leaves and torii gates.

Deep in the autumn forest, the Twin Towers sway in the shadow of the trees.
A colored leaf drifts down,
and the hush of distant memories gently unfolds.

When the lead rigger strikes the clapper, the float begins to move.
This is the float of Wakitamachi, Ieyasu.

The autumn colors of Kankakei Gorge on Shōdoshima offered a vast panorama. By the way, aside from the ropeway, the dramatic scenery along the driving routes is unlike anything else, so I recommend it.

Golden leaves glowing in the sunlight, a carpet of soft fallen leaves underfoot, and the sound of the waterfall echoing through the quiet gorge…

A canal reflecting the air of a foreign land gently cradles the colors of the evening sky.
The lights from the buildings unfurl across the water, and the laughter shared with friends drifts quietly into the scene.
I saw a pale, dreamlike dusk light that slipped softly into the depths of my chest.

Autumn leaves are often seen during the day, but I wanted to capture the night-time foliage lit up by lights, so I took these photos. The remaining green created a pleasing contrast, and I feel I managed to capture a truly Japanese autumn. This spot is Kouchi Valley in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, which draws many visitors during the autumn leaf season. Although it’s fairly close to my home, I had never been until I took up photography as a hobby and felt the urge to preserve it in pictures, and I was able to shoot without any people appearing in the frame. I take photos mainly for my own satisfaction, but I would be thrilled if they resonated with someone else.

I drove to Fuji-Q Highland on a whim with my eldest son.
That day, Mount Fuji peeked out from the clouds, and the colorful autumn leaves spreading across its foothills blew away my work stress and fatigue.

The plane bathed in the orange of the setting sun seemed to quietly celebrate the end of today.
A brief moment of color unwound my heart.
