Kikuchi Tourism Association offers bicycle rentals.
Recently, more people have been using them.

This time, we introduce the popular destination, Kiki Castle.

Kiki Castle is a mountain fortress built by the Yamato government in the late 7th century, about 1,350 years ago.
A prefectural excavation uncovered valuable remains, including the foundations of 72 buildings, a former reservoir, and earthwork embankments.

You can also see reconstructed buildings on site.
At Onko Soseikan, exhibitions and videos explain Kiki Castle’s history and structure in detail.

Excavations have continued since fiscal 1967 to the present.
In terms of area, the site is about 12 times the size of the Tokyo Dome.
The grounds are very spacious, making them ideal for a walk.

Our staff actually visited by electric-assist bicycles.
We reached Kiki Castle from Kikuchi City Furusato Sosei Citizen Plaza in about 20 minutes.
There are some slopes, but electric-assist bicycles make riding easy.

On the site is a café called Kuri to Sora that sells sweets made with Japanese chestnuts.

The Mont Blanc soft-serve is especially popular.
Please stop by the café to relax during your trip.

You can enjoy scenery you don’t usually see.
When you visit Kikuchi City, please enjoy a bicycle journey.

Now, following on from Yamabuki Shrine and the legend of Goshikihime, this time let's talk about "Kamakura Shrine".

When you think of "Minamoto Heigosen", names such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Taira Kiyomori immediately come to mind, but do you know who "Minamoto Noriyori" is?
One of Minamoto no Yoritomo's younger brothers, who also appeared in the NHK taiga drama "13 people of Kamakura-den" broadcast in 2022 (Reiwa 4), is "Minamoto no Yoriyori". Since he was born and raised in Kama Mikuriya in Toei Province (present-day Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture), he was also called Kabakaja and Kabado.

Tucked away at the foot of Mt. Gyodo in Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture, the tomb of Minamoto Noriyori is built at Kamakura Shrine.

Noriyori played a great role for the Minamoto clan, such as defeating Kiso Yoshinaka with Minamoto Yoshitsune and leaving achievements in the pursuit of the Heike at the Battle of Dannoura, but he was suspected of rebellion due to a single careless remark and was imprisoned in the ShuZen Temple in Izu.
There are various theories about his whereabouts after that, but one of them is that he fled to Iyo City, Ehime Prefecture, relying on the Kono clan of Iyo.

The five-ring pagoda at the foothills of the pond beside the shrine was mourned as the tomb of Noriyori, and it is the Shomyoji Temple that stands right next to it. It is written in the ancient journal that the golden Bishamon statue of Bishamon, which is said to have been carried by Noriyori, came out when the enoki tree in the Shomyoji Temple was cut down.
In the Edo period, the Lords of Ozu erected a tombstone and began to enshrine Minamoto Noriyori as Kamakura Shrine. It is said that since ancient times, as a god of war, many people from distant other prefectures have visited to pray for victory.

Before Shrine, I There are Natsume Soseki's phrase monument. It is the oldest Soseki phrase monument in Japan, and it is a rare phrase monument with two phrases and one stele.

This is the Suzu Araragi wind chime of Tokyo Daijingu Shrine. 🎐

Today (July 10) I covered a hop harvest 😆

It was my first time seeing this year’s hop field... and it was spectacular✨✨

Straight-reaching vines, healthy dark green leaves, and clusters of hops hanging like little bells…!!

“It’s a shame this view will be gone after today!” I said as I gazed with the grower 👀

With preparations complete, it was time to harvest 💪
There were so many cones that even removing the supporting wires was a struggle 💦

We filled bags with the harvested hops, and I worried they might not all fit on the truck we were loading back with today 😂

These hops will be processed into beer with a fresh, lively aroma 🍺

I tasted last year’s brew too — it had a refreshing scent and went down easy 😆👍

I can’t wait to try this year’s beer 😍

This is Shina Falls in Kisa, Miyoshi City.
The three waterfalls known as Shina Falls lie within a 1.5 km gorge stretching from Kisa to Konu.

A well-maintained, gentle walking trail leads you to the largest fall, Ichi no Taki, which drops about 11 m. (Photo)
You can spot many wild animals and plants here.

Besides the three main falls, small cascades appear here and there,
so you can fully enjoy the great outdoors 😊

*From Ni no Taki to San no Taki you sometimes have to climb the streambed and cross the river using ropes.

On this day, the gluttonous Kasai was lured by the sweet Aroma as usual and visited Judo-san!
On the day of the event, the person who dealt with the gluttonous Kasai was Mr. TakeVillage. The company was founded about 64 years ago. Judo is Famous in the Locals for its ankoro mochi, dango, and shionaka. This "ankoro mochi" is often served at funerals in the Suwa region. I was born and raised in Suwa, but in the Suwa region, I have never heard of and custom of "moon viewing". There are and Botamochi have often heard.
Gluttonous Kasai bought Swiss rolls, daifuku, and Dango. The cut roll was gentle and high-quality fresh cream, and on this day, chestnuts were included, and it was so delicious that it became addictive. Daifuku is also recommended for women because the bean paste is not sweet and the mochi is soft, and it is a size that can be eaten Anytime! The Dango is exquisite, the sauce wraps the Dango tightly, and it is easy to purchase because it is a full-scale meal! As a glutton, I 🎶 was also curious about the "appuru cake" in the showcase
On this day, it was not in the showcase, but my Gourmet master's "Sacchan Master" in the Information Center in front of the station is Exquisite cream puffs and seems to be recommended to everyone!! Today, Gluttony Kasai went to Kotobuki-dou. Mr.Takemura introduce me about Kotobuki-dou. The Kotobuki-dou is famous for Ankoro mochi, Dango and salty Monaka.
I saw Ankoro mochi in funeral. This is regional persists habit around suwa area.
Also, this area, I don’t listen so much about Otsukimi (Moon viewing).
The day I bought Daifuku, roll cake and Dango. Rolled cake was not too sweet, the cream was so smooth and soft. The Daifuku also not too sweet, the size is bite sized. So, it is easy to eat even kids and women. Dango is also bite sized. Mitarashi sauce is so fit together well. Hmmm… So nice! I was curious about apple cake too.
My gourmet master “Satchan” taught me, her recommendation is “Cream Puff”. But that day wasn’t there. I’ll try again other day! Mr.Takemura’s recommendation is Daifuku, Dango and salty Monaka.
