On that day the mikoshi (portable shrine) of Sumiyoshi Taisha is welcomed to Sakai and the ritual is performed at Igai-bori in the Shukuin Tongu. This ceremony oversees the act of purification, the very essence of the Sumiyoshi Festival and the mikoshi procession.
