Bibai Tourism and Products Association
May. 21, 2023
Bibai Tourism and Products Association. "Bibai City, Hokkaido" is visited by many tourists for its abundant nature, mild climate, and delicious food. From now on, I would like to introduce the charm of Bibai City in COOL JAPAN VIDEOS! First of all, Bibai City is read as "Bibaishi" and is located between Sapporo City and Asahikawa City, and is located within about one hour from both cities. Bibai City is served by National Route 12 connecting Sapporo and Asahikawa, and the section from Bibai City to Takikawa City is a straight road that continues all the way, and there is a road that boasts the longest straight-line distance in Japan. As for the weather and climate of Bibai City, a refreshing breeze blows through in spring, a cool climate continues in summer, and beautiful snowscapes spread out in winter. You can enjoy the atmosphere of the four seasons, and the beauty of each season brings new discoveries every time you visit. Introducing popular tourist spots in Bibai City! First of all, Miyajima Swamp is one of the world's leading spots where you can see migratory birds such as geese and swans. It is located about 30 minutes by bus from JR Bibai Station, and every year about 70,000 birds come from Russia far north of Hokkaido in spring and autumn. Especially in the early morning and evening, when you can see the herd, the sight of the sky and swamps filled in black is a masterpiece. In addition, the "Coal Mine Memorial Forest Park" is a tourist attraction not to be missed. Bibai City once flourished from coal mining. In this park, which was built on the site of the former coal mine, you can see a tower that transports coal from deep underground, and a raw coal pocket for storing coal. As a valuable tourist spot where the memories of the coal miners of the past coexist with the nature of the present, it was 2007 Heisei 19 selected as an "Industrial Heritage of Modernization". Next is "KAN YASUDA SCULPTURE MUSEUM ARTE PIAZZA BIBAI". The works of world-renowned sculptor Kan Yasuda are exhibited here. His works blend in with the surrounding landscape, as if they were one with nature, providing peace and emotion to visitors. At Tomei Park, a vast park located in a hilly area, 2,000 cherry trees bloom during the cherry blossom season, and the "Bibai Cherry Blossom Festival" is held, and it is a popular tourist spot where you can enjoy the illuminated cherry blossoms at night. And at the "Bibai City Experience Exchange Center", even first-time visitors can easily experience pottery such as pottery and painting, and can be enjoyed by both children and adults. The last thing I would like to introduce is "Sorachi Shrine". This shrine is watched over by an old tree that is over 900 years old, and you can experience "making bangle protection" from natural stone. On your trip to Bibai City, please enjoy delicious meals. In particular, Bibai City's "Bibai Yakitori" is a local gourmet that you can't miss. It is one of the seven major yakitori in Japan, and is made by skewering chicken, chicken liver, inner eggs, gizzards, and onions. As a local soul food, it is a popular gourmet for a wide range of generations from children to adults. Please try it when you come to Bibai. And "Torimeshi" It is a local dish that has been passed down for more than 100 years, and because rice, stir-fried meat, and motsu are cooked with soy sauce, sugar, and sake, and almost no other ingredients or seasonings are used, the aroma and taste have a strong chicken flavor, and it has a taste different from other mixed rice. We look forward to welcoming you with rich natural scenery, sightseeing spots where you can feel history and culture, delicious food, and warm hospitality! Stay tuned for future posts!

Located in Kurihama, Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, we will introduce "Kurihama Flower Park" and "Jogashima" and "Misakicho" a little further away. Kurihama Flower Park has flowers, trees, herbs, playground equipment and Godzilla. During Golden Week, poppies and nemophila are in full bloom, and you can feel very vivid and refreshing when you take a picture. The bees were also happy to fly around. In addition, it seems to be a spot where cosmos blooms all over the place and sunflowers bloom every season, and you can enjoy it many times every season. Jogashima is about 20 minutes by car from the Kurihama Flower Park. You can see the sea right away, and it is a place where tuna bowls are so famous that no matter where you walk, tuna bowls are sold. I don't have a photo because I haven't eaten it. The regional cat is relaxed and relaxed. In Jogashima Park, you can walk along the spreading rocky area. As you approach the rocky area, the smell of thick tide wafts in the air, making you feel summer. There was a gorgeous parfait, octopus rice crackers and dried fish were sold, and it looked delicious. If you cross from Jogashima to land, you will become Misaki Town. The cityscape makes you feel the atmosphere and playfulness of a port town in some places, and just walking around is exciting. I saw many tourists traveling by rental bicycle. The recommended spot is Misaki Donut. It is a fluffy light donut with a wide variety of pistachios, orange chocolate, white earl grey, etc. The donuts lined up in the showcase are cute, and I am happy to choose them. I ate it to take home and it was meltingly delicious. There was also an eat-in space. In addition, I felt that Misaki Town is a town where various parts of tuna are cut in various ways and sold cheaply in large packs, locally harvested vegetables are sold, and you can meet handsome seamen on boats. By all means! Why don't you go!

Tomakomai Tourism Association
Apr. 21, 2023
Hello viewers of Cool Japan Videos, this is the Tomakomai Tourism Association.

On this account, we’ll introduce the many attractive tourist spots of Tomakomai City, one of Japan’s leading industrial cities and the largest port town in Hokkaido.

Tomakomai is very easy to reach: about a 90-minute drive from Sapporo City and about a 30-minute drive from New Chitose Airport.
When you visit, rental bicycles are available, so we recommend touring while feeling the great outdoors on your skin.

Now, let us introduce Tomakomai City’s proud sightseeing spots.

■ Mt. Tarumae
Designated a natural monument of Hokkaido, this stratovolcano features a globally famous double rim.
You can drive up to the 7th station, and from there it’s about a 50-minute hike to the summit, making it an easy climb to enjoy sweeping views and alpine plants.

■ Midorigaoka Park
From the observation deck on the hilltop plaza, you can take in panoramic views of Tomakomai City.
With fountains and flowerbeds, plus an athletics stadium and a rugby field, many people use it as an outdoor sports park.

■ Kin-Dainuma Park
Centered on Lake Kin-Dainuma, which has a 1.6-kilometer shoreline, the park is surrounded by pristine nature.
You can enjoy facilities year-round, including Arten, one of Japan’s largest auto campgrounds, a canoe base, a park golf course, and the Yunomi no Yu bathing facility.

■ Northern Horse Park
A popular spot where visitors can interact with horses.
You can experience horseback riding, guided pony rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, sleigh rides, riding lessons, the Happy Pony Show, and horse trekking.

Next, we’ll introduce some of the popular local gourmet treats that are one of the pleasures of visiting Tomakomai.

Tomakomai City boasts the largest catch of surf clams (hokkigai) in Japan, often called the king of shellfish.
While they’re known as a premium sushi topping, in Tomakomai you can buy them casually.
As a port town, there’s also plenty of seafood like salmon and atka mackerel, plus local specialties such as haskap berries, Tomakomai ramen, haskap-based sweets called yoitomake, Tarumae jingisukan (grilled mutton), and hokki curry—popular flavors you should try when sightseeing.

We’ll continue to share many more recommended Tomakomai attractions that we couldn’t fit into this post, so please look forward to them!

Yubari Tourism Association
Apr. 18, 2023
Yubari City, Hokkaido is located in the central Hokkaido region of central Hokkaido and is a city with many attractive sightseeing spots interwoven with nature and history. When many people hear the name "Yubari City", the words "Yubari Melon" and "Financially Bankrupt City" may come to mind. Yubari City also once prospered due to the coal industry, one of the main industries of the Japan. However, as time changed and the demand for coal decreased, Yubari City was affected by it, and by 1990, all the coal mines were closed and the city was in a difficult situation. After that, it experienced financial collapse in 2007, but now measures are being taken to revitalize the city. Yubari City has such a history, but it is about 60 minutes from New Chitose Airport, the northern gateway, and about 90 minutes from Sapporo, making it a popular tourist destination. At the Yubari City Coal Museum, you can learn about the history of the coal industry in Yubari City and learn about the development of Yubari City. Dynamic exhibitions that utilize actual coal mining sites as tourism resources are popular and have become a place visited by many tourists. Yubari City is rich in nature as well as from the summit of Mt. Yubari at an altitude of 1,668 meters, and a 360-degree panoramic view spreads out, and you can see the beautiful scenery of the four seasons. In addition, with the completion of the Yubari Shuparo Dam in 2015, you can enjoy aquatic activities such as canoeing at Lake Shuparo, which has become the fourth largest water reservoir in the Japan. At the waterfall top park, colorful flowers and trees grow over, and you can feel the four seasons of Yubari City closely. The "Chidoriga Falls" in the park is a superb view of countless large and small waterfalls and strangely shaped rocks. If you come to Yubari City for sightseeing, please enjoy gourmet food and masterpieces. Speaking of Yubari City, Yubari Melon! Why not taste the sweet and juicy Yubari melon in summer? Yubari potatoes and canned beans are also popular gourmets. The population was 116,000 in 1960, when coal mining flourished, but today it is less than 7,000. Yubari City is sometimes compared to a ghost town, but if you actually visit, you can learn about the history of Japan industry and enjoy nature and gourmet food. After about 16 years since 2007, Yubari City has reached the goal of paying off its debt in four years. In order for citizens and tourists to come back to Yubari City after paying off their debts, we would like to introduce the attractions such as sightseeing spots and history of Yubari City in the Cool Japan Video!

Lake Mashu Tourism Association
Apr. 18, 2023
Hello everyone! This is the Mashu Lake Tourism Association. We will introduce many highlights and ways to enjoy Teshikaga in Hokkaido to viewers of Cool Japan Video! First, can everyone read the name "Teshikaga"? It is pronounced "Teshikaga". When people think of Hokkaido, Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo come to mind as popular spots visited by many tourists, and both lakes are located in Teshikaga. Lake Mashu spreads out in a deep blue and is known as the sacred lake. Its blue surface is called Mashu Blue and boasts the highest transparency in Japan and ranks among the world’s very clearest lakes. To fully enjoy this beautiful lake surface, we recommend visiting the observatories. The Lake Mashu First Observatory is the most popular lookout, attracting about one million visitors a year. It has a large parking lot and rest house with restrooms, so you can stop by to take a break. The Lake Mashu Third Observatory and Uramashu Observatory also offer free parking and let you see different faces of Lake Mashu. From the Lake Mashu First Observatory and the Lake Mashu Third Observatory, when luck and weather conditions are favorable, the entire lake can be covered in fog, and the settled mist can appear as a sea of clouds. Lake Kussharo is one of the world’s largest caldera lakes and the largest caldera lake in Japan (a lake formed when a volcanic crater filled with water after an eruption). Numerous natural hot springs gush out along the lakeshore, so you can enjoy hot springs in open-air baths and saunas that make the most of nature, as well as in large hotels. In summer you can fully enjoy water sports such as camping, canoeing, and sailing. Across the great outdoors of Teshikaga you can also enjoy activities like horseback riding, golf, fishing, cycling, and dairy farm experiences. When you visit Teshikaga, please also savor the town’s local specialties and gourmet foods. These include Mashu Soba, known as the prized "phantom soba" for its careful quality; Mashu Melon, in season from early to late August; potatoes packed with the bounty of the land; and popular products from Teshikaga farms such as Mashu Pork and Mashu Wagyu. Teshikaga in Hokkaido is conveniently accessible by car—about 75 minutes from Kushiro Airport and about 70 minutes from Memanbetsu Airport. Please come and enjoy the vast nature of Teshikaga. Through Cool Japan Video, we will continue to bring you attractions and travel information about Teshikaga, Lake Mashu, and Lake Kussharo, so please follow us if you like!

That's really impressive! Age is just a number and it's great to see someone who is 60+ years old still passionate about cooking and sharing their skills with others. Making Indian Dessert malpua in the Indian style requires skill and patience. The batter is made with flour, semolina, and sugar, and then flavored with cardamom, saffron, and sometimes fennel seeds. The batter is then fried in ghee or oil until golden brown and crispy. To make Indian Style malpua, the following ingredients and steps can be followed: Ingredients: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup semolina 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp cardamom powder A pinch of saffron 1 cup milk Ghee or oil for frying Steps: In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, semolina, sugar, baking powder, cardamom powder, and saffron. Slowly pour in the milk and whisk until you have a smooth batter. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes. Heat some ghee or oil in a pan. Once hot, spoon a ladleful of batter into the pan and spread it into a thin disc. Fry the malpua until it turns golden brown on both sides. Remove from the pan and drain on a paper towel. Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve hot and enjoy! It's great to see someone continuing to pursue their passion and share their skills with others. I'm sure your street food malpua is delicious and appreciated by many! [English/Japanese] The most famous gourmet food in Hachioji is ramen. It is so well known among ramen lovers that there is even a type of ramen called "Hachioji Ramen. Unlike other ramen, "Hachioji Ramen" uses a large amount of onions in its broth. In Nishi-Hachioji, there is a Hachioji Ramen restaurant called "Goemon" where people stand in line. It is a 3-minute walk from Nishi-Hachioji Station, so it is very close to the school. I tried it for the first time the other day! It was a very tasty ramen with the sweetness of onion, just like "Hachioji Ramen". The international students at the Japanese language school like ramen very much. Some of the male students in particular eat ramen every day, and it is one of the reasons for their weight gain. By the way, many female students get fat from eating bread. It is a "city of flowers, tastes and history" in Akkeshi Town.

We in Akkeshi Town are located in the east of Hokkaido and are surrounded by Kushiro Town, Hamanaka Town, and Shibecha.

The climate is relatively low in Hokkaido, but the snow cover remains even in spring.

Akkeshi Town faces the Pacific Ocean, Akkeshi Bay, and Lake Akkeshi, so it boasts fresh seafood.
In particular, oysters are a popular gourmet in Akkeshi, and many people come to Akkeshi for oysters for sightseeing.
Once you taste Akkeshi's oysters, you will definitely be captivated.

In addition, scallops, clams, sanma, sea urchin, squid, bokki, crab, kelp... Popular seafood that cannot be described here is landed in Akkeshi.
Please visit Akkeshi Town once and enjoy the fresh seafood!

Along with these seafood, "Akkeshi whisky" is popular.
The cool climate of Akkeshi is suitable for maturing whisky.

Abashiri Tourist Association. Hokkaido's tourism PR character "Kyun-chan" came to Abashiri! Kyun-chan is an Ezonaki rabbit that lives in Hokkaido and is characterized by its ugly ears and dark eyes. To impress the feelings of what you see and touch with "Kyun" is the origin of Kyun-chan's name. In Abashiri, we boarded the drift ice breaker "Aurora" and enjoyed local gourmet, Abashiri champon, Okhotsukuzangi bowl, drift ice curry, drift ice soft, etc.!

[English/Japanese] Takaoyamaguchi Station, the entrance to the Takao Mountain climbing area, is lined with many restaurants. Tororo grated yam has long been eaten around Mt. Takao, and there are many restaurants where you can enjoy tororo cuisine. I ate grated yam on the way home from a recent excursion. Tororo has a soothing effect on a tired body. If you are tired after climbing a mountain, you should definitely try it. Takao-Yamaguchi Station, which is the entrance to Takao Mountaineering, is lined with many restaurants. Around Mt. I took this at a traditional salmon shop in Murakami city, Niigata. Late fall is the season of salmon. The sunlight was like a spotlight shining on the main character of the city, salmon. Imagning the effort put into this, I could feel the pride and love for salmon of the city. They have a restaurant serving traditional salmon dishes. It's called Sennenzake Kikkawa. The waitress will explain every dish and what's unique about the salmon from Murakami city, which was really interesting.

Hachioji Ramen is a popular local ramen that Hachioji City, Tokyo is proud of. It is a light and gentle ramen based on soy sauce, and it uses chopped onions as ingredients and fat floats on the surface of the soup. Although it is made simple, it has been featured in many media, and it has become a local ramen in Tokyo, with many fans from far away as well as local Hachioji! Hachioji ramen has a long history, and more than 60 years ago, in Showa 34 1959, a certain shop that ran a delicatessen in front of Kitano Station decided to move to Koyasu Town due to relocation due to land readjustment, so I thought it would be difficult to be a delicatessen because it would be difficult to be a delicatessen. At that time, the mainstream ramen shop was a Chinese restaurant that served food delivery, so the restaurant, which specialized in ramen and tried to make a living only by selling it in-store, went through trial and error to create some characteristics. At that time, I happened to come across a ramen shop with "kizami onions" on a trip to Hokkaido. However, although the ramen I ate in Hokkaido had a good texture, the pungency of the onions could not be removed, and as a result of repeated ingenuity, I came up with the oil as a result of my devise to make a soup that somehow removed the pungent taste without spoiling the texture of the onions. The oil suppressed the pungency of the onions and enhanced the sweetness, and the prototype of today's Hachioji ramen was born.

[English/Japanese] Takohachiya" is a grill shop. It is located alongside the Hachioji Central Library, about 6 minutes from the school. This time I ate not takoyaki but "takosen". Takosen" are takoyaki sandwiched between octopus crackers, and are famous as a snack for children in Osaka. There are many takoyaki shops in Tokyo, but this was the first time I saw takosen being sold. The fluffy takoyaki sandwiched between crispy rice crackers was very tasty 😊Bangladeshi students do not eat seafood such as octopus and squid. Please be careful when making recommendations to foreigners. Yakiya "Takohachiya". It is lined with the Hachioji Central Library and is about 6 minutes from the school.
