Kanagawa's 100 Specialties [Crafts] The "Kanagawa Specialty 100 Selections" are selected by the prefecture with recommendations from prefectural residents and organizations from among the crafts, processed foods, and agricultural, forestry, and fishery products cultivated in the tradition and climate of Kanagawa Prefecture, with the aim of widely promoting them both inside and outside the prefecture as an element of Kanagawa Prefecture's tourism appeal and contributing to the promotion of tourism. It was selected for the first time in Showa 60 and re-selected in 2006 (Heisei 18). More than 10 years have passed since the last selection, and the needs of tourists are changing, so we have selected a new "Kanagawa Specialty 100 Selections". We will also add attractive gems that are conscious of inbound tourism and local gourmet foods that are popular in the region, and widely promote them as important resources to convey the charm of Kanagawa. ・Yokohama scarf A 100% silk scarf featuring the world's highest level of advanced hand-printing technology and careful sewing. Former Kiya Takeshi Family Residence / Okinawa World Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town Okinawa World is located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa Prefecture. It is a registered tangible cultural property located in the castle town of the Ryukyu Kingdom, where red-tiled kominka houses that recreate the townscape of the Ryukyu dynasty are lined up. It is a private house built in the late Meiji era, and it is a building that miraculously survived the ravages of war in the most intense place during the war. (It was moved here from its original location.) It is now used as a hands-on workshop. There were quite a few people who experienced it ^^ It is a valuable building that I would like to preserve in the future.

Former Kiya Takeshi Family Residence / Okinawa World Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town Okinawa World is located in Nanjo City in the southern part of Okinawa Prefecture. I went to the castle town of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which reproduces the townscape of the Ryukyu Dynasty era lined with red tile kominka, which is a registered tangible cultural property. The building in the photo is a private house that miraculously survived the ravages of war and was the site of the most intense ground battle of the Pacific War. On the pillars on the side of the corridor, the scars of shells received during the war were still vivid. (The building was moved here from its original location.) Since it was relocated, it has been used as a hands-on workshop. A very valuable building that tells the history of the Battle of Okinawa, I want to preserve it for a long time.

Yachimun (Tsuboya yaki) / Tsuboya Yachimun Street It is one of the traditional crafts of Okinawa "Yachimun". Pottery is called yachimun in the Okinawan language. In Tsuboya Yachimun Street in Tsuboya, Naha City, there is a shop with a new design that is also liked by young people from traditional designs. Yachimun is characterized by a strong and delicate painting on a thick and sturdy model. The shop is Guma Guwa, which has a very stylish exterior and is popular for its designs with plant and animal motifs. When I stopped by the other day, I bought a small plate on impulse ^^ I hope that the traditional craft "Yachimun", which has been around since the Ryukyu Dynasty, and the traditional shape and beauty will be inherited in the future.

"Mizutamaten" In the summer of Kamakura, the warm weather of Mizutama colors the city. My works of pulp art and washi art were exhibited at the Kamakura Sculpture Museum. We displayed it using Japanese paper dyed according to the color of Mizutamaten so that the work could be seen beautifully from the wide window. I was happy that everyone at the Kamakura Sculpture Museum and craftsmen kindly welcomed me from different genres. Even after the Mizutamaten period, they held a special exhibition with the craftsmen of Kamakura carving, and many people saw the works. Thank you very much. The Kamakura Sculpture Museum is about a 5-minute walk from Enoden Wadazuka Station toward the sea. In the hall, works elaborate by craftsmen are exhibited and sold. You can also experience it if you make a reservation. Please come to Kamakura. ♪ Highly recommended 〒248-0014 3-4-7 Yuigahama, Kamakura City secretariat TEL (0467) 23-0154 >>>>> Open Tuesday ~ Friday 9:30~16:30 Sat/Sun・Holidays 11:00~16:00 Regular holiday : Monday (If Monday is a national holiday, Tuesday is closed) ◆We will be closed for about a week during the year-end and New Year holidays, spring, and summer. Was shopping the other day in Nihonbashi and saw this akabeko and thought it was really cute so I decided to take a photo of it. The name was quite funny to me as well. Instead of the usual "akabeko" this was a "nemubeko," or "tired-beko" basically, and you can see how the eyes are actually half way shut instead of the normally wide-open eyes, giving it the tired look lol. I've always wanted to try an akabeko experience as I love traditional Japanese crafts and akabeko in particular seem really fun to make. I've read a few posts in another places of people trying akabeko workshops and having a really fun time. I haven't used papier mache since I was a kid either so it'd probably be a nostalgic experience for sure. If I do try an akabeko workshop, I think I'll make a "nemubeko" as well lol

I took these photos last week at Shinagawa Station. They were having a small lacquerware exhibition sort of thing and were selling goods from I suppose Naraijuku as is written on the cloth, but I don't remember if there was anything else to the setup. They had a lot of really cool lacquerware pieces though and I managed to pick up a couple of spoons and some extra chopsticks. I would have liked to buy more, but unfortunately am not in the need for much tableware at the moment lol. They also had some traditional children's toys and I was considering getting a Jacob's Ladder since I hadn't seen one in years, but decided to pass lol. The Wagasa on the top of the stall were also for sale too. Only ¥1500 and they're handmade! It was a cool exhibit though, I'm not sure if it was just a one day thing or if they're still going for a while but definitely drop by if you're at Shinagawa Station and see it open.
