Yubari Tourism Association
Apr. 19, 2023
Yubari City, Hokkaido is located in the central Hokkaido region of central Hokkaido and is a city with many attractive sightseeing spots interwoven with nature and history. When many people hear the name "Yubari City", the words "Yubari Melon" and "Financially Bankrupt City" may come to mind. Yubari City also once prospered due to the coal industry, one of the main industries of the Japan. However, as time changed and the demand for coal decreased, Yubari City was affected by it, and by 1990, all the coal mines were closed and the city was in a difficult situation. After that, it experienced financial collapse in 2007, but now measures are being taken to revitalize the city. Yubari City has such a history, but it is about 60 minutes from New Chitose Airport, the northern gateway, and about 90 minutes from Sapporo, making it a popular tourist destination. At the Yubari City Coal Museum, you can learn about the history of the coal industry in Yubari City and learn about the development of Yubari City. Dynamic exhibitions that utilize actual coal mining sites as tourism resources are popular and have become a place visited by many tourists. Yubari City is rich in nature as well as from the summit of Mt. Yubari at an altitude of 1,668 meters, and a 360-degree panoramic view spreads out, and you can see the beautiful scenery of the four seasons. In addition, with the completion of the Yubari Shuparo Dam in 2015, you can enjoy aquatic activities such as canoeing at Lake Shuparo, which has become the fourth largest water reservoir in the Japan. At the waterfall top park, colorful flowers and trees grow over, and you can feel the four seasons of Yubari City closely. The "Chidoriga Falls" in the park is a superb view of countless large and small waterfalls and strangely shaped rocks. If you come to Yubari City for sightseeing, please enjoy gourmet food and masterpieces. Speaking of Yubari City, Yubari Melon! Why not taste the sweet and juicy Yubari melon in summer? Yubari potatoes and canned beans are also popular gourmets. The population was 116,000 in 1960, when coal mining flourished, but today it is less than 7,000. Yubari City is sometimes compared to a ghost town, but if you actually visit, you can learn about the history of Japan industry and enjoy nature and gourmet food. After about 16 years since 2007, Yubari City has reached the goal of paying off its debt in four years. In order for citizens and tourists to come back to Yubari City after paying off their debts, we would like to introduce the attractions such as sightseeing spots and history of Yubari City in the Cool Japan Video!

Hello everyone! This is the Lake Mashu Tourism Association. We will introduce many highlights and ways to enjoy Teshikaga in Hokkaido to everyone who watches the Cool Japan video! First of all, do you know how to read "Teshikaga Town"? This is read as "Teshikagacho". Speaking of Hokkaido, Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo are popular tourist spots visited by many tourists, but Teshikaga Town has Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo. Lake Mashu has deep blue water and is known as the Lake of Gods. The blue surface of the water is called "Lake Mashu Blue" and boasts the highest transparency in the Japan and one of the best in the world. To enjoy this beautiful lake, we recommend visiting the observatory. Mashu Daiichi Observatory is the most popular observatory visited by 1 million people a year. There is also a toilet and rest house in a large parking lot, so you can use it even for breaks. The parking lots of the Mashu Third Observatory and the Uramashu Observatory are also free, and you can see the different faces of Lake Mashu. From the Mashu 1st Observatory and the Mashu 3rd Observatory, if luck and weather conditions are good, the entire surface of Lake Mashu is covered with mist, and the accumulated mist can be seen as a "sea of clouds". Lake Kussharo is one of the largest caldera lakes in the world and the largest caldera lake in Japan (a lake where water accumulated in the crater after the volcano erupted). There are many natural hot springs gushing out on the lakeside, so you can enjoy hot springs in open-air baths, saunas, and large hotels that make use of nature as it is. In summer, you can also enjoy water sports such as camping, canoeing and yachting. In Teshikaga Town, where nature spreads, you can also enjoy activities such as horse riding, golf, fishing, cycling, and dairy farming experience. When you visit Teshikaga Town, please enjoy the specialties and gourmet food of Teshikaga Town. There are many popular gourmet foods such as "Mashu Soba", which is said to be "phantom soba noodles" that are particular about quality, "Mashu Melon" that is in season in early ~ late August, potatoes packed with the blessings of the earth, "Mashu Pork" and "Mashu Wagyu" produced at Teshikaga's farm! That's really impressive! Age is just a number and it's great to see someone who is 60+ years old still passionate about cooking and sharing their skills with others. Making Indian Dessert malpua in the Indian style requires skill and patience. The batter is made with flour, semolina, and sugar, and then flavored with cardamom, saffron, and sometimes fennel seeds. The batter is then fried in ghee or oil until golden brown and crispy. To make Indian Style malpua, the following ingredients and steps can be followed: Ingredients: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup semolina 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp cardamom powder A pinch of saffron 1 cup milk Ghee or oil for frying Steps: In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, semolina, sugar, baking powder, cardamom powder, and saffron. Slowly pour in the milk and whisk until you have a smooth batter. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes. Heat some ghee or oil in a pan. Once hot, spoon a ladleful of batter into the pan and spread it into a thin disc. Fry the malpua until it turns golden brown on both sides. Remove from the pan and drain on a paper towel. Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve hot and enjoy! It's great to see someone continuing to pursue their passion and share their skills with others. I'm sure your street food malpua is delicious and appreciated by many! [English/Japanese] The most famous gourmet food in Hachioji is ramen. It is so well known among ramen lovers that there is even a type of ramen called "Hachioji Ramen. Unlike other ramen, "Hachioji Ramen" uses a large amount of onions in its broth. In Nishi-Hachioji, there is a Hachioji Ramen restaurant called "Goemon" where people stand in line. It is a 3-minute walk from Nishi-Hachioji Station, so it is very close to the school. I tried it for the first time the other day! It was a very tasty ramen with the sweetness of onion, just like "Hachioji Ramen". The international students at the Japanese language school like ramen very much. Some of the male students in particular eat ramen every day, and it is one of the reasons for their weight gain. (By the way, many female students get fat from eating bread.) I took this at a traditional salmon shop in Murakami city, Niigata. Late fall is the season of salmon. The sunlight was like a spotlight shining on the main character of the city, salmon. Imagning the effort put into this, I could feel the pride and love for salmon of the city. They have a restaurant serving traditional salmon dishes. It's called Sennenzake Kikkawa. The waitress will explain every dish and what's unique about the salmon from Murakami city, which was really interesting.

Hachioji Ramen is a popular local ramen that Hachioji City, Tokyo is proud of. It is a light and gentle ramen based on soy sauce, and it uses chopped onions as ingredients and fat floats on the surface of the soup. Although it is made simple, it has been featured in many media, and it has become a local ramen in Tokyo, with many fans from far away as well as local Hachioji! Hachioji ramen has a long history, and more than 60 years ago, in Showa 34 (1959), a certain shop that ran a delicatessen in front of Kitano Station decided to move to Koyasu Town due to relocation due to land readjustment, so I thought it would be difficult to be a delicatessen because it would be difficult to be a delicatessen. At that time, the mainstream ramen shop was a Chinese restaurant that served food delivery, so the restaurant, which specialized in ramen and tried to make a living only by selling it in-store, went through trial and error to create some characteristics. At that time, I happened to come across a ramen shop with "kizami onions" on a trip to Hokkaido. However, although the ramen I ate in Hokkaido had a good texture, the pungency of the onions could not be removed, and as a result of repeated ingenuity, I came up with the oil as a result of my devise to make a soup that somehow removed the pungent taste without spoiling the texture of the onions. The oil suppressed the pungency of the onions and enhanced the sweetness, and the prototype of today's Hachioji ramen was born.

There is a style that increases the amount of toppings and noodles. Except for toppings, only alcoholic beverages. It seems to go well with rice, but it is not served. < Qingdao Ramen (800 yen)> Rice bowl and good ramen and good nostalgia ✨ The noodles are 175g in normal size! The flavor of ginger is addictive, and the crisp soy sauce feeling is irresistible ?. Homemade multi-hydrated noodles also go well with the soup. The thin char siu has a good flavor and a good ? texture. Spinach is a good balance! Thank you for the delicious feast ^ ^
