Reservations are currently accepted through the end of May, a brilliant time to see azaleas, fresh green birch and larch, and other highland plants. Check the official website for details Miike Coal Mine Manda Pit A former coal mining site that helped power Japan’s Industrial Revolution, now listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. The solid red-brick buildings remain, along with machines and equipment used at the time, letting visitors sense the town’s former prosperity. There is also a Manda Pit VR viewing area! Arao Tidal Flats Waterfowl & Wetland Center A facility that showcases the appeal of the Arao Tidal Flats, registered under the Ramsar Convention Wetlands, through the creatures of the mudflats. A tank reproducing the mudflats lets you observe mudflat creatures such as mudskippers, and the center features exhibits introducing waterfowl with panels, a kids’ corner, and an observation area. Arao Tidal Flats From these tidal flats you can even see Mt. Unzen across the Ariake Sea. You can spot diverse marine life and migratory birds resting their wings. The sunset dyeing the sky and sea as it sinks is also a spectacular sight.
