[English／日本語] I would like to introduce "Nekoyaki" from a Japanese confectionery shop called "Nekoma," located in Soto Terrace, a spot promoting traditional culture in Hachioji that I wrote about in a previous article. This wagashi is very tasty, filled with lots of sweet bean paste. The cat face on this "Nekoyaki" is said to be modeled after a maneki-neko figurine that survived the Hachioji air raid. The maneki-neko is displayed in a shop near Soto Terrace. There are several places and objects in Hachioji related to the war. At our Japanese language school, we sometimes cover the Hachioji Air Raid in class. Why not come and study Japanese in a city with a rich history? I felt bitterly cold in winter in Hibiya Park.

You reach it by passing through a narrow street in the hanamachi district. I visited at night, so it was very quiet, but I heard it gets lively with events on weekends and public holidays. There is a charming shop where I bought some cute sweets. I’ll report on those sweets next time. Hachioji is an old town with many events and places that preserve traditional culture. I think it’s a great city for international students to learn about Japanese culture! Last November, I went to Sōto Terrace, a spot that showcases Hachioji’s traditional culture. It is a seven-minute walk from Hachioji Station. You arrive by walking down a small street in the hanamachi area. I visited at night, so the atmosphere was very calm, but I was told it becomes very lively on holidays when events are held. There is a lovely shop where I bought cute sweets. I will report on the sweets I bought next time. Because Hachioji is an old town, there are many events and places that convey traditional culture. I think it’s a wonderful city for international students to learn about Japanese culture!

Shonan coast. 15 minutes bike ride from home, my view. Mt. Fuji at sunset and waves crashing on the shore. Lovers walking on the beach holding hands with families playing with children, walking with dogs. Whether you're happy or sad, this scenery gives you calm. This scenery has a vividness of colors, grandeur of nature, and beauty of Japan that cannot be conveyed even in photographs, but I wanted to convey the beauty of the Shonan coast to the world by capturing it in as small a lens as possible.

The approach to Oku-Nikko Onsenji Temple in Tochigi Prefecture Snow covered in lanterns lined up, It's like wearing a matching hat. A wooden path leads from the middle of the approach to the Yumoto source. The view from the wooden path is also superb.

Kakuenji Temple in Kamakura. Although it is far from the city and the station, there are few people and it is a hidden attraction that is in harmony with the autumn leaves. The mountain gate and autumn leaves illuminated by the bonfire immediately after the sun went down were beautiful to look at forever.

"Flowers of Japanese Paper" Washi paper, which is made by intertwining long fibers, is delicate, pale, ephemeral and lovely when torn. I found this photo spot in Hachioji! It’s so cute. By the way, the anime popular among our students is Doraemon. JR East is celebrating the 150th anniversary of rail service by introducing “Pokégenic,” photogenic photo spots where visitors can snap pictures with a range of Pokémon at stations and on the Shinkansen within the JR East area. I discovered this photo spot in Hachioji — it’s adorable. Incidentally, the anime that’s popular with our students is Doraemon.

Mount Fuji. This is a photo taken on a midsummer evening across the sea from Hayama in Kanagawa Prefecture. Unfortunately, it is cloudy and the saturation is low, It is a photo that has an unexpected atmosphere with a gradation of clouds, haze and shadows.

This is the scene seen from the Inage Coast. For Tokyoites who usually casually look at the Tokyo Skytree, the sunset seen from Chiba and the Tokyo Skytree were different.

As part of the "Sawara Hina Meguri" early February to early March event in Sawara, Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, Uchiura-sama and a group of chicks dressed in glittering Hina costumes parade up the Ono River along the water with the beautiful sound of gagaku. I photographed Nikko Mt. Mentai from Yaita City, Tochigi Prefecture. Unfortunately, the weather is bad, but there is a band of light coming in from between the clouds. It was beautiful. This is the view from the observatory near Happogahara.

Kashiwanoha Park, Chiba It is one of the largest parks in Japan. It is a park where you can see the beautiful scenery peculiar to the four seasons.

The sea beyond the Morito Daimyojin in Hayama. The sea shines orange in the sunset just before it sets. This is a recommended spot where you can see the sunset on the horizon, Mt. Fuji, and Enoshima together.

Matsudo at the beginning of color. Kyoto and Kamakura are famous, but there are many other beautiful temples.

If you go further from Takaosan Yakuoin Okunoin, you will find Fuji Sengensha. This was done by Hojo Ujiyasu during the Sengoku period to solicit the Fuji Sengen Great Bodhisattva on Mt. Takao. During the national era, for those who could not go to Fuji from here due to the placement of enemy countries, Fuji Sengen Daibodhisattva was solicited to this Mt. Takao where they could see Mt. Fuji so that they could receive the same benefits without having to go to Mt. Fuji. I was glad that I was born in this peaceful era, that there were times when I could not live such a distance.
