The season has come again for carp streamers to flutter over Iwamoto Bridge! Iwamoto Bridge, a designated Important Cultural Property of Kumamoto Prefecture, measures 32 m in length and 4 m in width. This rare stone arch bridge was built in the Edo period by double-stacking cut rock from Aso gyotan-ishi. It spans the Sekigawa River on the border between Arao City and Omuta City and is affectionately known locally as an eyeglass bridge. The chrysanthemum crest carved in relief on the west-facing exterior is famous. It is said to be the work of Hashimoto Kangoro, a master builder from Yatsushiro who constructed many renowned bridges in the early Meiji era, including the Nijubashi at the Imperial Palace. The bridge is well preserved and you can walk across it. Raising date: Saturday, April 5 (If it rains, the event will be postponed by one week) Period: Saturday, April 5 to mid-May Location: Iwamoto Bridge 182-2 Kamiede, Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture 864-0013

Tenkuu no Mori Ikenokubo Green Park Perched at about 800 meters above sea level in nature-rich Morotsuka Village, Tenkuu no Mori Ikenokubo Green Park features log houses and a campsite. The road from the Hyuga direction is a single lane one-way for much of the route, so drivers who are not used to mountain roads can feel at ease. The park offers an athletic course, grass skiing, and putter golf, so families with young children can all enjoy it together 😆. A scenic cross-country course nearby makes it perfect for a leisurely walk while soaking in nature 🍃. The popular Akimasa Observatory, known for its spectacular views ✨, is about a five-minute drive. Getting up early to watch the sunrise is recommended, and with luck you might even see a sea of clouds. Enjoy spring when flowers bloom 🌸, summer greenery and the coolness of higher elevations 🌳, fiery autumn foliage 🍂, and quiet winter with drifting snow ⛄. It’s a place to savor the ever-changing seasonal scenery and relax in nature. The village has two campsites, and Ikenokubo Green Park is one of them.

Flying Shrine Yawata City Yawata Doi 44 It was founded in 1915 (Taisho 4) (1915) by Tadahachi Ninomiya from Yawatahama City, Ehime Prefecture, who succeeded in the first powered model flight experiment in Japan in 1891 (Meiji 24)). Inspired by the gliding appearance of a crow, he created a "crow-shaped flying device" powered by fixed wings and succeeded in flying. In Meiji 26 (Meiji 26) (1893), he designed a biplane model "iridescent flying machine" that had no tail and could be ridden by a person, but abandoned due to lack of funds. After that, he moved to Yawata, Kyoto Prefecture, and began building a full-scale prototype, but in Meiji 36 (Meiji 36) (1903), he learned that the Wright brothers of the United States had succeeded in the world's first continuous flight of a powered heavy aircraft, and he left airplane development. Heartbroken by the large number of victims of aviation accidents since the invention of the airplane, Chuhachi invested his own money to build a shrine in his residence in Yawata (where he is present) to comfort the spirits of the deceased, and prayed for aviation safety and the development of the aviation business. The current worship hall was rebuilt in 1989 in the ancient Western style, and features a stained glass decoration depicting a cylindrical column and a crow that inspired its invention. In addition, there is a museum attached to the museum, which exhibits photographs taken by Chuhachi himself at the time and iridescent flying equipment (models), as well as items donated by various companies and organizations, as well as 1,000 plastic models Dedication by individuals.

National Treasure: Ishisei Water Hachimangu 30 Yawata Takabo, Yawata City, Kyoto Prefecture "Ishisei Water Hachimangu" is worshipped as a god of protection from evil, and although it has been designated as a national treasure, it is affectionately known as "Yawata Hachiman-san" by the locals. In addition, the shrine has a dove motif that was loved by warring warlords such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Hideyori, and Tokugawa Iemitsu. It is considered to be a messenger of the god Hachiman, and it is fun to look for it because the Main Shrine is decorated and carved with pigeons.

Calligraphy, which can be learned by both children and adults, enriches the mind and deepens understanding of culture in daily life. Even people from other countries can learn deeply about Japanese culture and history through calligraphy. The expression of letters using brush strokes and ink is part of the cultural heritage handed down from ancient times. Therefore, the use of the brush and the process of tracing a model, which are taught in the Calligraphy Plan, allow students to feel not only the aesthetic expression of letters, but also the depth of the culture. #Calligraphy #kimono #kanji #shodo

When children learn calligraphy, they learn to write beautifully. The benefits are especially great if they start learning before they start developing habits, so if they start by around age 5, they may have beautiful writing for a lifetime. In addition, calligraphy, as an ancient Japanese art, also teaches manners such as greetings and respect. #kanji #kimono #calligraphy #OsakaCastle

The mountain climbing season has arrived. Kuranodake, located in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, offers trails for beginners through advanced hikers. It is a mountain that even small children can enjoy. From the summit you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama, and a big appeal is that you can easily challenge yourself starting from the 9th station. The elevation is 1,118 m. It was selected as one of the Top 100 Walking Trails in Japan. It sits at the western end of the Aso outer rim, and the name comes from its saddle-like shape. Following the northeast ridge of Kuranodake leads to peaks such as Mount Tsumushi (1,064 m), and some hikers aim for them from Kuranodake’s summit. The mountain hosts many alpine plants and bird species. There are several routes up Kuranodake; for intermediate and advanced hikers there are the Forest Course and the Panorama Course. Beginners can drive up to the 9th station and start from the East Trailhead Course. With routes of varying difficulty, many families hike together. From the summit you can see the Kuju Mountain Range, the Five Peaks of Aso, Mt. Kimpō, and Unzen. Many people bring a packed lunch or coffee to enjoy on the hike. Before hiking, pick up maps and information at Shiki no Sato in Asahishi-Fumoto, Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, located at the trail entrance, and why not give it a try?
