The ingredients used at Vegiful Kitchen are mainly vegetables and fruits grown in Toyooka Village.
Because we source directly from village farmers, the vegetables and fruits we use change with the seasons.
Sourcing what tastes best each day lets you enjoy produce that is ultra-fresh, safe, and secure.
Our food coordinator devises the dishes that best suit each ingredient at that time.
The “garden” in our garden buffet refers to the farms of local farmers in Toyooka Village and neighboring towns and villages.

In Abukawa Gorge there is one of Japan’s largest giant potholes, measuring seven meters in diameter.

[About Bamboo Shoot Picking 2025 and Bamboo Cutting and Shredding Work]
Preparations are underway in the park this year to hold the bamboo shoot picking event again.

The day before yesterday, we carried out bamboo cutting and shredding work.
The cutting work involves thinning out old bamboo to expose the ground surface to sunlight. (Rising ground temperature is necessary for bamboo shoot growth.)

The cut bamboo has its branches and leaves removed and is fed into a shredder to make bamboo chips.
When spread on the ground, the bamboo chips become compost. This improves soil nutrition and helps produce tastier bamboo shoots.

Preparations are currently under way to hold this year’s bamboo shoot picking.
The event period is under consideration, but it is expected to run from around mid-April to early May.

When it comes to pickles from Shinshu, nozawana is well known, but in southern Shinshu, gensuke kabuna pickles are cherished.

Gensuke kabuna becomes sweeter and more flavorful after exposure to frost.
As the cold grows harsher at this time of year, Toyooka Village has entered the ideal harvesting season for gensuke kabuna.

Toyooka Tabi Jikan offers hands-on harvesting experiences for gensuke kabuna.

Hyakutai Koshin (Hundred Koshin Statues)
The stone Koshin statue and the commemorative monument at the highest central step of the approach were erected in March 1828 (Bunsei 11) by Nobutomi Ohara.

According to the monument, “On Koshin days we held ceremonies to honor the Koshin deity, and if one observed this ritual seven times one could reduce the calamities caused by the three corpses (sanshi). After consulting with the nun of the Ohara hermitage, I decided to enshrine a hundred Koshin statues along the ridge of the woodland I own. Many people from inside and outside the village helped erect the Koshin monuments. I inscribed this monument to explain the reason, to offer thanks to the Heavenly Sovereign, and to pray that my companions and neighbors would be considerate of one another so that our descendants might live in peace and prosper for generations.”

In this way, these Koshin statues were widely commissioned from neighboring villages and erected, and there are 110 in total.

Cycling Guide Tour – Fruit Sweets Plan

Last weekend, a group of six joined our cycling guide tour!

Under clear skies after the rainy season, we cycled while taking in views of the Alps and the Tenryu River.

After arriving at the orchard, we went peach picking.
They enjoyed harvesting the most popular variety, Akatsuki.

After cycling, we moved to the cafe for peach desserts!

Everyone fully enjoyed the cycling and peach picking, which made us happy too.
