Tokachi Hills, a garden on a gentle hill in Makubetsu, is hosting Rose Week until Sunday, July 13. At the entrance, you can borrow leisure sheets and baskets for free and enjoy a picnic inside the garden. The café attached to the shop serves soft-serve ice cream, rice balls, curry and more. This time I had a chilled white corn soup made with Memuro-grown corn. There is also Garden Cafe NIWAKARA in the garden, where you can enjoy lunch or a reservation-only afternoon tea while looking over the grounds. Even after Rose Week, various events take place, so please stop by. If you cycle from obihiro station, there are uphill sections, so we recommend an electric bicycle. Cycling will give you a good sweat—please watch out for heatstroke. You pass Manabe Garden by bike, so you can visit both gardens on one ride. It takes about 25 minutes by bike from Manabe Garden to Tokachi Hills. https://www.tokachi-hills.jp//

At Manabe Garden in Obihiro, hydrangeas are beginning to bloom little by little. At the garden entrance, a gnome-like fairy known in Europe as a guardian of the garden welcomes visitors. A film set from the morning drama series Natsuzora is also on display beside the entrance and next to the café on the lawn terrace. After strolling through the garden, why not enjoy lunch or a cold sweet at the café? The sweets menu includes three parfaits—the ice brulee parfait, the Strawberry Green Garden parfait, a coffee jelly parfait—as well as soft-serve ice cream. This time I had the ice brulee parfait—what a blissful moment. It has been hot every day, so please enjoy summer sightseeing while staying hydrated. Recommended nearby sightseeing spots [Tokachi Hills] A garden in Makubetsu Town themed around agriculture and food. The popular Umbrella Sky event runs through June 30! Peonies and water lilies were in full, beautiful bloom in the garden. I also saw paulownia blossoms, which are sensitive to cold and rare to see blooming in Hokkaido. July 1–9 is Rose Week. This garden shows a different face each season, making you want to visit again and again. About a 20-minute drive from Tokachigawa Onsen

Went to Rikugien Gardens over the weekend! The weather was really nice and the flowers were beautiful. I was hoping to see the yukitsuri, but unfortunately they'd already been taken down. We bought some bikes recently so we decided to ride them to the park. It's been really nice to get a bit of a leg workout in instead of riding trains all the time. It was only about 25-30 minutes too and we were able to avoid all of the packed trains and get some fresh air. I was pretty happy that we got to see the popular view from the top of the hill 3rd photo. I've seen many photos of it before and finally was able to see it for myself. I never knew that the park had turtles in the pond either, so that was pretty cool to see. There were a bunch swimming all over the pond, sitting on rocks, etc. We managed to spot a crane as well, but it was in a spot were we couldn't really take a good photo of it so I decided to pass and just admire it without a photo. We stopped for a short break at one of the small cafes inside the park and got a quick snack. I'm not a fan of manju, but my girlfriend likes them so she got a coffee and one sakura manju. She seemed to like it, but decided to take off the flower from the top as she didn't want to eat the petals. The melon soda float was nice too. Definitely a nice place to visit and hoping to visit again in the fall to see the leaves after they've changed color.

I forgot to post this photo as it wasn't at Asukayama Park, but it was on the way. As we were walking to Asukayama Park we looked over the side of this bridge and I saw this small little garden and just thought it was really nice. To the right of the garden there's a small French bistro that looked like a nice quiet place to grab a bite to eat but it wasn't open at the time. I was curious so I did a little research about the place and it turns out the chef used to work at the Imperial Hotel for more than 20 years. It makes sense too, because I looked at some of the food they serve at this bistro and it looks pretty darn good. I'd love to stop by when it's open. Hopefully next time I'm in the area!
