Beyond soba, there will be many local specialties such as charcoal-grilled Shintoku jidori chicken and grilled shiitake mushrooms grown on logs, plus sweets like soba crepes and rich soft-serve ice cream to enjoy.😍 Also, the long-running wanko-soba eating contest returns for the first time in six years!! There are two categories: parent-and-child pair and adult pair, and applications require teams of two. Pairs of two will compete to see how many bowls of soba they can eat within the time limit. Minamifurano, Shintoku, Shikaoi A joint pamphlet made by three neighboring towns📕 In the heart of Hokkaido, this pamphlet introduces delicious cuisine crafted from fine trees, pure water, and good snow, along with a variety of nature-based activities. Beyond packing the charms of the three towns along National Routes 38 and 274 into one booklet, each town is color-coded for easy viewing, and you can catch detailed information by scanning the QR codes on the pages. The colors for the three towns are… Minamifurano Town — "Lavender swaying on Lake Kanayama🪻" Shintoku Town — "The deep, shining blue of Lake Sahoro🫐" Shikaoi Town — "The clear aquamarine of Lake Shikaribetsu💚" Overall, the pamphlet uses gentle colors and a matte, classy paper texture that reflects careful design. Autumn colors are beginning. I went to Tokachi Dam to prepare for the Kinaushi Shrine Enshrinement Anniversary Festival held on Tuesday, October 1st. Daytime temperatures in town rise to around 20°C, but nights fall into the single digits, and I expect mountain valleys are even cooler. I also received word that fall colors have started at Tomuraushi Onsen Higashi-Taisetsu-so, so they may have advanced considerably in the past week. In a typical year, the colors peak around early next month near Tomuraushi Onsen Higashi-Taisetsu-so, while the area around Kuttari Lake near Tokachi Dam reaches its best in mid-month. Please come and see the unspoiled wilderness painted by autumn foliage.

The seasonal Tomuraushi Line bus service has been approved. This summer, as last year, a route will run between Shintoku Station and Tomuraushi Onsen. Will this summer be as hot as last year? Seek cool relief, immerse yourself in the healing power of vast nature, and discover hidden hot-spring baths. Take this chance to visit Tomuraushi Onsen as well as go mountain climbing!
