Nayoro Sightseeing & Town Planning Association
Apr. 17, 2023
This is the "Nayoro Sightseeing & Town Planning Association" in Nayoro City, Hokkaido. Nayoro City is located in the northern part of Hokkaido and is known for producing glutinous rice, which boasts the largest acreage in Japan, and asparagus, which boasts one of the highest yields in Hokkaido. Since it is located in the north of Hokkaido, where the cold is severe, the temperature is low throughout the year, especially the average temperature in January is -8.6°C, and the average temperature in February is -14.9°C, which is the lowest among Japanese cities. At dawn in the cold winter season, the water vapor in the air freezes into small ice crystals, and you can see the "diamond dust" of the fantastic scenery that sparkles in the sun. You can also experience the sun pillar, where the reflection of the light of the diamond dust looks like a pillar in Nayoro City. Here are some of the highlights, sightseeing spots, and popular gourmet foods in Nayoro Town. First of all, I would like to introduce "Nayoro City Kitakuni Museums". Nayoro City Kitakuni Museum is a facility built for the purpose of learning about the natural environment and culture of northern countries and connecting them to the future. In the "Kamui Forest" corner, you can learn about the nature and culture of the Ainu. In addition, in front of the Kitakuni Museum, the SL snow removal train "Kimaroki" is on display, so please take a look. Next, I would like to introduce "Nayoro Park". The park is surrounded by a forest that combines virgin forests and artificial forests, and the cherry blossoms in the park bloom in late May, and many cherry blossom viewers visit. There is also a park golf course, a tennis field, and a baseball field in the park, making it a facility that everyone from Adult to children can enjoy. The last place I would like to introduce is "Hokkaido Sun Pillar Park". Seasonal flowers bloom in the park, and the summer sunflower field became popular as a filming location for the 2011 movie "Stargazing Dog". There is an auto camp site, and it is also a base for bikers who enjoy sightseeing in Hokkaido. Wow what a cool sight! I've been out to Nagatoro and Chichibu and went on a riverboat ride and I think I remember the guy pushing the boat saying something about there being icicles there during the winter. I'd love to go back and see it sometime as this looks really amazing. Also we wanted to try the kayaking in Nagatoro as well since the water was too low when we went and the boat we rode on couldn't go as far downriver. I guess they have some skiing there as well, I'm not sure if it's connected to the ropeway at all, but that's another cool thing to do in the area. The mountain is really beautiful and I think there's probably a good amount of cherry blossoms if you go in the spring. I'd like to explore Chichibu more though as I hear there's a pilgrimage there where you can see temples and shrines and stuff.

Chichibu City, Saitama in winter
"Icicle of the Thirty Hammers" near the mouth of the three peaks

The icicles I saw for the first time were different from the documents and videos
It gave me a fantastic impression somehow.
It was normal to feel cold, but somehow I felt warmth.

What an amazing view, catching the sunrise just perfectly between the clouds. I really want to visit Zao as I know that it's amazing all year round and it'd be cool to go during the winter since you can go skiing and snowboarding but it'd be great to go during the spring or summer when there's no snow to go hiking and see places like this as well. Okama Crater is really beautiful and I can imagine it looks even more amazing in person. It's too bad there aren't any fish in the crater due to the acidity but that's a cool aspect in and of itself too. The crater is actually a lot higher in elevation than I originally thought; never seen it with a sea of clouds before.

Wow this is awesome! Looks like a lot of fun. Japan has a lot of great ski resorts and with winter being pretty harsh this year I bet there's tons of fresh powder on top of the mountains. I've never went mountain climbing like this either. I've went hiking of course but not in snow like in these pictures. I'm more of a camper I suppose though lol. I like the different snowmen in these pictures too, it's pretty cool to see them as, like I've said before, there's not much snow in Tokyo. It's pretty cool they built a small house out of snow lol. It reminds me of the ice chapel in Hokkaido. Hopefully once it's easier to get outside I can go visit a resort like this even just to do some sledding or w/e. Start to lack exercise with being indoors all day everyday 😂
