Whether it can be called a tourist spot or not, the Oyamazakura at Fukuyama Pass in Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, is famous as a snow cherry blossom that blooms without waiting for the snow to disappear. Tourists from inside and outside the prefecture will come. It is also famous as a photo spot. (^_^;)

Spring in Japan means cities surrounded by rows of cherry blossom trees, but whenever we imagine we think about light pink or white flowers and their fragile petals fluttering in the breeze. But these dark pink cherry blossoms are also gorgeous and they bloom much before than common sakura. These flowers are called Kawazu zakura and you can see this grand view if you visit this town from late Feb to early march.

My today's recommendation is Kawazu city. Kawazu cherry blossoms are early-blooming cherry blossoms that begin to bloom from mid-February to early March every year in Kawazu city of Shizuoka Prefecture. During that period a several hundred cherry trees blooms along the both side of river. Unlike the normal cherry blossom this kawazu cherry blossoms are bright colors. In a short distance one can also see the mountains on one side and sea on the other side. The river water is crystal clear. Most importantly, the local peoples are very tourist friendly.

Today, in the series "Kobe, Rediscovered", we will deliver the "Cherry Blossom Tunnel" in Nada Ward, a famous place for cherry blossoms, as the seventh stage. This photo was taken one year ago on February 19. It was near the end of bloom, and I was running hard to find the living cherry blossoms. It was raining at that time, so it was hard to take pictures. This year, it seems to be blooming from the beginning of January. In Okinawa, cherry blossoms bloom in winter, and when cherry blossoms are needed, they are already scattered and become just trees. I wish it would bloom around April lol.
