This year marks the 60th Tomakomai Skating Festival. The highlight is shibare-yaki, a jingisukan grilled outdoors in subzero temperatures (shibareru, a Hokkaido dialect term, means “cold”). The seasoned jingisukan tastes exceptional when cooked on a grill made from a modified drum can and enjoyed with beer. A huge ice slide is another favorite with children.
