「Gorgeous Nijo Castle Gate」 Location: Nijo Castle, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto * * * ~Gorgeous Nijo Castle Gate~ Nijo Castle was built in 1603 by Ieyasu Tokugawa to protect the Kyoto Imperial Palace where the emperor lives and to serve as a lodging place for the shogun. It is a valuable historical heritage site registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The Karamon Gate, an important cultural property, is the main gate of the Ninomaru Palace and is decorated with gorgeous and colorful sculptures. * * Nijo Castle was built in 1603 by Tokugawa Ieyasu to protect the Kyoto Imperial Palace, where the Emperor lives, and to serve as a lodging place for the shogun, and is a valuable historical heritage that was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
