Oita Kitsuki Tourism Organization

~It's going to be sunny today ☼~ Hello! This is the Kitsuki City Tourism Association. Last time, Kitsuki Castle post the Scene we took a walk around the area. Today we went to the Castle Town area for a while. The photo shows the view from the scenery "Suya Slope" representing Kitsuki City ~ Kitadai Samurai Residence Street ~ Ohara Residence Scene of the mansion and garden. 【Suya Slope】A slope that tells a lot of the town The slope of Suya Slope, which connects the Samurai residence of Kitadai and the merchant town with its impressive earthen walls and stone walls, is a slope with very beautiful stone pavement. Shihoya's slopes are often introduced as a set, and that's no wonder. These two slopes, which represent Kitsuki, are opposite, and if you go down the slope of Shihoya, you will reach the slope of Suya Slope. The origin of the name of the slope is closely related to the merchants of Tanimachi. Shioya Choemon, who ran a liquor store, was a wealthy merchant who prospered greatly in the salt shop (liquor store) that was running at the bottom of the slope from Tanimachi to Minamidai, and then started a vinegar shop business at the bottom of the slope from Tanimachi to Kitadai. The slopes came to be known as "Shioya (Shihoya) no Saka" or "Suya Slope" because of their respective Squid. As you can see from this episode, Saka is deeply connected to this town, Gari not only has it connected life and people, but it also connects the Edo period and the present in this way. Needless to say, the existence of such a slope shines as a valuable personality of Kitsuki. 【Ohara Residence】 A glimpse into the life of a senior samurai in a beautiful old house Kitadai Samurai Residence Street lined with the ruins of the residences of senior samurai. Among them Suya Slope the Ohara Residence next door is a valuable architectural heritage that even now the lifestyle and atmosphere of the residence of a senior samurai who served as an elder and other important positions. It has a splendid thatched roof and a beautiful walking Garden in the large garden. Other, there is a wide entrance, the presence of the next room, the bow ceiling, and the waiya. Far from being glamorous, it is simple and solid, and yet the high level of formality can be seen everywhere, and evidence that this was the residence of a high-ranking samurai of high status is left in every corner of the building. This building is also a space where you can feel and read about the culture of the Edo period, the culture of samurai society, and the care for people. In addition, there are still even now interesting ingenuities, such as the wisdom of valuing things and saving money can be seen in the washing area and the furnace. ☆ The last photo is a service shot. "The Secret of the Earthen Wall" ~ If you look closely, you can see the structure from the broken part. On the way to the walk, that? You may also encounter interesting situations such as "N??". We will be posting like this in the future, so please take a look.

Fukkoji Hydrangeas ❚ Bloom Status as of June 3, 2025 Fukkoji, located in Asaji Town, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture, is famous as a hydrangea sightseeing spot. The hydrangeas are currently about 40–50% in bloom. Flowering is progressing. The plants that bloomed early are showing beautiful flowers. We will announce updates on the bloom status as they come. [Location] Kamiotsuka, Asaji Town, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture [Access] About 10 minutes by car from JR Asaji Station [Parking] Available (free) [Toilets] Available ❚ Fukkoji The bas-relief Buddhist statue carved into the temple grounds, including its pedestal, stands at about 11 meters tall and is one of Japan’s largest rock-carved Buddhas. The central enormous figure is Fudo Myo-o. Fudo Myo-o typically appears in an angry form, but years of wind and rain have softened this carving into a round, gentle expression. Although it is a large Fudo Myo-o, it has a very approachable appearance. Fukkoji is also called Hydrangea Temple because so many hydrangeas are planted there. During the rainy season, you can see numerous hydrangea blooms alongside the rock-carved Buddha. The hydrangeas planted here are cared for by the temple and local residents. ■■■ Access to central Bungo-Ono City ■■■ About 3 hours by car from JR Hakata Station, Fukuoka Prefecture About 2 hours by car from JR Kumamoto Station, Kumamoto Prefecture About 1 hour 20 minutes by car from JR Beppu Station, Oita Prefecture About 1 hour 20 minutes by car from JR Yufuin Station, Oita Prefecture ■■■■■■■■■■■■ Introducing sightseeing and recommended spots in Kyushu, Bungo-Ono, Oita Prefecture ■■■■■■■■■■■■

Nagasaki Saikai City Tourism Association
Jun. 4, 2025
This is an announcement from Saikai City Tourism Association about scenic spots in Seihi, Saikai City. Saikai City in Nagasaki Prefecture faces the sea on three sides and offers breathtaking views from its hilltop parks. 1. Hachinokeyama Park Address: 1639 Hirayama-go, Seihi, Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture 851-3425 There are various theories about the origin of the name “Hachinengatake.” One story says eight Genji warriors who came chasing Heike fugitives took shelter from a sudden storm in a rock cave but were killed by a landslide; another says eight warriors were wrestling here. From the observation deck you can see the Ajiro Peninsula, shaped like a dragon’s head, and the islands floating in Omura Bay. From the shore outward, the islands appear in this order: Heta-Abo Island → Oki Anbo Island → Tamago Island → Yakeshima Island → Chidori Island → Dojima → Nagashima → Yahazushima Island. Legends of Heike fugitives remain on Tamago Island and Chidori Island. After the Heike defeat at the Battle of Dan-no-ura, Tamayorihime, who was the wife of Taira no Atsumori, her attendant Princess Chidori, and Tamayorihime’s wet nurse Yodo Hime are said to have fled here but been captured. The three women were reportedly separated and housed apart. A stone shrine still stands on Tamago Island, where Tamayorihime is enshrined. On Chidori Island a small natural stone carved with “Spirit of the Plovers” is said to be venerated. Also, Nagashima is known as the birthplace of round pearls. 2. Shihondo Park Address: Shirasaki-go, Seihi, Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture 851-3312 This park lies on the western shore of Omura Bay in Seihi. You can enjoy walking among seasonal flowers, camping, and barbecues year-round. The park has an observation deck with stunning views over Omura Bay, and playground equipment for small children. The park also contains historical sites such as Okoshikake-ishi, the stone where Fujiwara Naozumi (the ancestor of the Omura clan) is said to have landed and sat on his way to Omura, and Ochanomizu, a spring where he is said to have drawn water to offer tea, offering a tangible sense of history.

#004 It's getting a bit warmer little by little! It seems the rainy season began today in southern Kyushu, but I'm not someone who dislikes rain! Now, as the rainy season ends, summer will arrive all at once. By the calendar it's already summer, so let me introduce Tsuno Shrine Summer Grand Festival, a summer tradition of Tsunocho in Miyazaki Prefecture! 【Origins of the Tsuno Shrine Summer Grand Festival】 When you think of summer, you picture fireworks, food stalls, and bon dancing. Different regions have their own traditional events, like Aomori's Nebuta Festival or Kyoto's Gion Festival. So what is the traditional event in Tsunocho? It is the Tsuno Shrine Summer Festival. Festivals are rarely held without reason; they usually serve a purpose, such as protecting crops from pests and natural disasters, warding off epidemics, or fostering community ties. What about the Tsuno Shrine Summer Grand Festival? In fact, this festival has an origin. Its origin is said to trace back to an old account in which Empress Jingū invited ritual ceremonies onto her ship during her expedition to Silla. The festival's purposes reflect Tsunocho's character as a town with thriving agriculture and livestock. People pray to drive away crop-damaging pests, repel typhoon-related damage—which Miyazaki Prefecture is susceptible to—and ward off epidemics. However, the enshrined deity at Tsuno Shrine, Ōkuninushi no Mikoto, is also a god of water, so the festival day sometimes brings rain, and a few years ago a typhoon struck directly. Even so, townspeople continue to hold the festival without stopping. 【The festival’s appeal】 People born and raised in Tsunocho often say in unison, "I won't come home for Bon or New Year, but I always come back for the summer festival" or "It's not summer unless I go to the summer festival." They look forward to it every year. You might wonder, really? I feel the same way. Born and raised in Tsunocho, I have loved this festival since childhood. When I was in my third year of junior high, I always helped carry my school's taiko float. That experience made me appreciate the float's coolness and sense of purpose, and it made me want to carry a float someday. Let me introduce the charms of the Tsuno Shrine Summer Grand Festival. ◆Festival dates Every year on August 1 and 2 ◆Introduction to the taiko floats and more In addition to the shrine's gilded portable shrine, several taiko floats appear at this festival. These floats are arguably the festival's main attraction. ・Hamawaka Taiko Float (Shimohama district) ・Shinmachi Taiko Float (Shinmachi district) ・Kitawaka Taiko Float (Kitamachi district) ・Idobata Taiko Float (mainly Matsubara district) These four town floats parade through the town for two days and, after the shrine entry on the second day, engage in a kenka clash. Other participants include the Tsuno Junior High School taiko float, Shimohama children's taiko float, Shicho children's taiko float, and the Ichinomiya Nursery School mikoshi, all raising the festive spirit. The festival atmosphere is further heightened by Tsuno Youth Taiko, djembe drums, the Matsubara lion dance, Yosakoi Miroku troupe, and dances performed by each elementary school. Over the two days, the sound of drums echoes from many places. ◆What happens over the two days On the first day, the "Hama-oroshi" procession takes place. Sarutahiko and the lion cleanse evil spirits along the route while leading the mikoshi. A burly Sarutahiko strikes a tree branch on the ground, and the lion bites the heads of onlookers as it walks. The spectacle can make children burst into tears. Behind them, boys of junior high carry the gilded mikoshi. Next comes Tsuno Junior High's taiko float. Until the Hama-oroshi, girls carry the taiko float. Then the four town floats follow, carried with shouts that match the middle schoolers' intensity, and the Hama-oroshi proceeds. On the second day, the taiko floats parade through the town. In the evening the mikoshi departs down the shopping street, followed by the other taiko floats. Ahead lies the finale at Tsuno Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Hyūga Province. Thousands of spectators gather in front of the shrine's east torii to witness the dramatic scene, watching and waiting toward the sound of drums. At 7:00 p.m., when the mikoshi and all taiko floats pass through the torii, the shrine entry concludes. Actually, spectators are especially there for what comes after the entry. After the shrine entry comes, as touched on above, the "kenka" between taiko floats. Hearing "kenka," you might imagine fistfights or police intervention, but rest assured: no punching occurs, and police are present. In the past there were accidents and real fights, but not anymore. The kenka involves ramming the floats together and pushing. Pushing a few meters declares victory. Some visitors come from outside the prefecture or from abroad just to see this. The festival is that compelling and worth visiting. ◆Conclusion The Tsuno Shrine Summer Grand Festival, one of Tsunocho's attractions, embodies history and the dedication of the people who have carried it forward. Similar festivals exist across Japan, but each has its own history, charms, and scenery. The summer grand festival that Tsuno townspeople have built over decades is waiting for you—please visit at least once.

Extra Edition: N takamatsu, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture – “Nezame no Toko” On this day, foodie Kawanishi presents an extra edition‼️ I finally visited Nezame no Toko in Agematsu, Kiso District, a place I’d long wanted to see. Nezame no Toko is counted among Japan’s five great scenic gorges and is designated as a National Scenic Spot!!! Before the Meiji era there were no dams, and the rapids of the Kiso River carved this granite. After dams were built, water diversion lowered the Kiso River’s surface, making the rock formations appear even more massive. It seems the site was designated a National Scenic Spot in 1923 and managed as a prefectural park, and in 2020 it was elevated to part of the Central Alps Quasi-National Park!!! You can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall—the scenery changes with the seasons. The river’s blue color shows how clear the Kiso River is. Also, surprisingly, there’s an Urashima Taro legend in landlocked Nagano Prefecture!? I’ve been curious about that for a long time. It’s a truly lovely scenic spot and a good workout too! I think you should avoid going right after rain or wearing clothing that hinders movement. I recommend sneakers and clothes you can move easily in!!! Swimming is prohibited, so please be careful. Second-grade elementary school children can make it to Urashima-dō. Why not visit Nezame no Toko with your children to enjoy the beautiful views!? On the way back, I stopped at Michi-no-Eki Hiyoshi Kisokoma Kogen and bought the station’s limited “morokoshi soft-serve” made with milk from Kaida Kogen! A faint, toasty corn aroma spreads through it—this was the most delicious soft-serve I’ve ever tasted!!! Please enjoy it if you can! From time to time, foodie Kawanishi plans to bring you extra editions like this. ◎ Nezame no Toko 📍 Agematsu, Kiso District, Nagano Prefecture ◎ Free parking: Available (check the website below) ◎ Website: https://kiso-hinoki.jp/colibri-wp/tourist/nezamenotoko/...

Kitsuki Castle A landmark towering over the Castle Town Kitsuki Since its construction in 1394, Kitsuki Castle has watched over this town for 600 years. Although it Castle Keep simulated, the three-tiered Castle Keep towering over the Ruins of the Castle is reminiscent of the appearance of this castle in the past. Built in the early Muromachi period by the Kitsuki clan on Mount Tai at the mouth of the Yasaka River, the castle was surrounded by natural strongholds such as the Takayama River to the north and Morie Bay to the east. While the castle changed its location and shape due to subsequent natural disasters and earthquakes, the castle owners were also replaced by the Maeda, Japanese cedar, and Hosokawa clans, and the Ogasawara and Matsudaira clans finally marked the end of the Edo era, and Kitsuki Castle continues to this day without welcoming a new castle owner. It is said to be important for understanding the actual state of castles in the early Edo period, such as understanding the building composition and structure of the castle before its destruction by the "One Country, One Castle Order" from historical documents and excavation results, and in March 2020, the Ruins of the Castle in the Taishan area and the ruins of the Lord's Palace at the foothills were designated as national historic sites. Some of the stone walls still exist. Today, the top of the mountain is open to the public as Shiroyama Park, and there is also a stone park where valuable stone structures such as the Kunisaki Pagoda found in various parts of the city are exhibited outdoors. At the time of the castle's construction, it was named "Kitsuki", but since it was mistakenly written as "Kitsuki" on the shogunate's shuin stamps, it has been changed to "Kitsuki". It is also known as "Katsuyama Castle" because it withstood the onslaught of the Shimazu for two months. Inside the castle, valuable items such as items related to the lords are on display, and armor, weapons, and Buddhist statues are on display. You can also enjoy dressing up and taking commemorative photos. It is visited by many tourists as the final destination of a walk around the Castle Town, and the superb view from the Castle Keep and the comfort of the wind will be a memory of the trip.

🌸 【Hokuryucho Cherry Blossom Spot Introduction vol.3】 🌸 Hello, this is 🌻 the Hokuryu Town Himawari Tourism Association This time, too, we will introduce the cherry blossom Spot that colors the Spring in Hokuryu Town! 🌟 The third installment is— "Ipponzakura of Kotoku Temple"! This time, I would like to introduce the ninth place of worship "Kotoku Temple" of the 88 sacred sites in Hokkaido. The Hokkaido Eighty-Eight Sacred Places is a Buddhist pilgrimage route made in imitation of the Eighty-Eight Sacred Places of Shikoku. While visiting 88 temples scattered throughout Hokkaido, you can enjoy a trip to experience Nature, culture, and faith. One of them, Kotoku Temple, is a temple that stands quietly in a calm atmosphere. Magnificent Ipponzakura bloomed on the Spring, delighting 🌸 the eyes of many people Also in the Precincts is a small bronze bell called "Prayer Bell", and Anyone can 🔔🎶 play it freely Not only pilgrims, but also those who visit for sightseeing will heal their hearts with the gentle tone. The cherry blossoms have already fallen, but the silence and prayer-filled space of Kotoku Temple Regardless of the season, it gives you a moment to prepare your mind. When visiting Hokuryu Town, be sure 🍃 to visit it as a step on a pilgrimage or as a rest during your journey We look forward 😊✨ to your visit
