On Sunday, June 4, we held the 2023 safety prayer ceremony for MtMeakan. This year about 30 people attended, including related organizations and members of the public, and everyone prayed for safety on the mountain. After the ceremony, we led a mountain climb with those who had registered in advance. Light rain fell at times and very strong winds blew near the summit, so the weather was not favorable, but participants appeared to enjoy the climb in their own ways.

The seasonal winter road closure on the prefectural road leading to Onneto, the mysterious lake in Ashorocho, was lifted on April 7. Most of Onneto is now ice-free except for a few patches. Please come visit Ashorocho during Golden Week! Note: Onneto is about a 45-minute drive from town. It is colder at the site than in town, so dress warmly. There is no direct public transportation to Onneto, so please use a rental car or other private transport.

Great time and great weather during my visit. Plan for a full day if you enjoy photographing architecture, historic sites, and traditional cultures. We drove, and I highly recommend it. Matsumoto is not too far! They also have the best curry I had in japan!
