On the day, photographer Tsutomu Ogino, who handles Mihama Town photography, will accompany the group.

The Ehime Prefectural Office in Osaka will host the "Ehime Saijo Fair" for three days, from Wednesday, December 3 through Friday, December 5, 2025.

We will offer seasonal local fruits and vegetables; anpo persimmons, a specialty of Shuso (semi-dried persimmons); rich carrot juice made from Saijo-grown carrots; Ishizuchi kurocha (Ishizuchi black tea); jams; local sake; nori seaweed; and other products from Saijo. Also making their debut are fragrant aonori financiers (financiers made with aonori, a type of green laver). We will also promote Saijo City's attractions and provide tourist information. It is one of Oita Prefecture’s representative spots for autumn colors.

The maple leaves around Shinji Pond are just past their peak.
Areas farther from the pond are further along in their color change, offering a lovely mix of green, yellow, and red leaves.
Fallen leaves have increased with the wind. Some spots still show beautiful foliage, while others have many fallen leaves.
We will update the foliage status as it changes.

The shop name comes from the English word “Wakey,” meaning wake-up and used like a cheerful call to small children. It reflects the owner Rina Nagai’s personal touch—she studied abroad at a university in the State of California. Her wish is simple: to make bread that people want to eat as soon as they wake up, comforting and part of everyday life.
The breads on offer use Rina’s original recipes, refined with techniques she learned while working at a bakery in the United States to bring out each item’s flavor. The most popular items are two character breads inspired by a Shiba Inu: Shiba-san (custard) and Nikukyuu Punch (chocolate). Inspired by childhood visits to bakeries with her parents, where character breads captured her imagination, she wanted to create breads that excite children.

I went to see Wakayama Castle. The castle itself is a reconstruction after the original was destroyed almost a hundred years ago, but the real treasure is the Nishi-no-Maru garden. The fall colors were really vibrant, and were reflected on the pond. The peaceful atmosphere made it hard to believe that the castle grounds were surrounded by a city! Since its free for viewing, you can't beat the value. If I am ever in the area again, I want to see what it looks like in other seasons as well.
