[English/Japanese] I would like to introduce "Nekoyaki" at a Japanese confectionery store called "Nekoma" located in "Soto Terrace," a spot that promotes traditional culture in Hachioji, which I wrote about in a previous article. This wagashi is very delicious with lots of sweet bean paste stuck inside. The face of the cat in this "Nekoyaki" is said to be modeled after a beckoning cat cat figurine that survived the Hachioji air raid. The beckoning cat is displayed in a store near this "Soto Terrace. There are several places and things related to the war in Hachioji. At our Japanese language school, we sometimes talk about the Hachioji Air Raid in class. Why don't you come and learn Japanese in a city with a rich history? I will introduce "Nekoyaki" at a Japanese confectionery shop called "Nekoma" in the spot "Kuwato Terrace" that transmits the traditional culture of Hachioji, which I wrote about in the previous article. This Japanese confectionery is very tasty with a lot of red bean paste inside. The face of the cat in this "Nekoyaki" is said to be modeled after the beckoning cat cat figurine that was burnt out during the Hachioji air raid. Maneki Neko is displayed in a shop near this "Kuwato Terrace". There are several places and things related to the war in Hachioji. Even in our Japanese school, we sometimes take up the Great Hachioji Air Raid in class. Why don't you learn Japanese in a city with a long history?

[English/Japanese] I visited Soto Terrace, a spot that opened last November to promote Hachioji's traditional culture. It is a 7-minute walk from Hachioji Station. You can reach it by passing through a small street in Hanamachi. I visited at night so it was very quiet, but I heard it is very lively on weekends and holidays with events. There is a nice store and I bought some cute sweets. I will report on the sweets I bought next time. Hachioji is an old town, so there are many events and places that convey traditional culture. I think it's a great city for foreign students to learn about Japanese culture! [English/Japanese] To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the railroad business, JR East is developing "Pokégenic", a photogenic spot shooting with various Pokémon at stations and Shinkansen stations in JR East area. Found this photo spot in Hachioji! It's cute. By the way, the anime popular among our students is "Doraemon. [English/Japanese] The other day I bought a French pastry called "Galette des Rois" at "Patisserie Tatsuya Sasaki" just a 4 minute walk from Nishi Hachioji! It is famous in France as a cake eaten on January 6. The cake is not only delicious but also enjoyable, as there is a ceramic doll inside the cake and the person who wins it can become a king. What do you do on New Year's in your country? Most of our international students have their New Year's in February or April! They have a very lively time, eating the country's traditional food and having festivals. When a new year starts, you will feel renewed 😊We wish you all a happy new year! [English/Japanese] Tengu-yaki, a souvenir I bought on a field trip to Mt. Takao. It is shaped like a tengu, a demon said to live in Mt. I thought the filling was red bean paste, but it was made of crushed black beans, and the elegant sweetness was very delicious. Our school is located at Nishi-Hachioji Station, next to Takao Station. It took first place in the recently announced "Really Comfortable City to Live in Ranking". Nishi-Hachioji is located along the Chuo Line, which connects to Tokyo and Shinjuku, between Hachioji, which is convenient for shopping, and Takao, which is rich in nature. It is recommended for its many supermarkets and hospitals, and inexpensive rent 😊. The souvenir "tengu yaki" that I got when I went on an excursion to Mt. Takao. [English/Japanese] Hachioji is famous for Mt. Takao. Takao can be seen from the school. The other day I went up Mt. Takao on a school excursion. The autumn leaves were still in full bloom and the view from the lift was very nice. You can also enjoy the scenery on the way to the top of the mountain, including discovering a rare cedar tree. It was a beautiful day, so we could see Mt. I recommend visiting on weekdays when there are fewer people. Speaking of Hachioji, Mt. Takao is famous. Mt. Takao can also be seen from the school. [English/Japanese] Across the street from the school is Koujiya Hachioji, a store specializing in rice koji. Rice koji is rice malt, which is made by propagating fungi on cooked rice, and is used in a variety of Japanese dishes. It was very cold in Hachioji today, so I ordered a rice koji smoothie hot. The gentle sweetness made my cold body feel warm and refreshed. In Japan, both adults and children often drink amazake, which is made from rice malt, in winter. When I tell this story to foreign students, they are surprised and say, "Children drink sake, too? They are surprised. Amazake is sake, but some amazake is alcohol-free. Please give it a try. 【English/Japanese】 I went to the rooster market in Hachioji with some of my students! There is an Otori Shrine about a 5-minute walk from Hachioji Station. I was impressed by the lucky and gorgeous decorations. Moreover, the sight of shopkeepers calling out good luck to customers who buy them was just like Japanese culture, and the students were very excited. On the way home, we bought a specialty of the rooster market, kirisansho rice cakes covered with a spice called sansho. It was very delicious. There are two more rooster fairs to come. We hope you will visit the rooster market as well. I went to the Hachioji Tori no Ichi with my students! There is Otori Shrine about a 5-minute walk from Hachioji Station. Impressed by the auspicious and luxurious decoration. In addition, the sight of the shop staff shouting auspicious things to customers who bought them was a reflection of Japanese culture itself, and the students were also excited. On the way back, I bought Tori no Ichi's famous kiri sansho mochi sprinkled with spices called sansho. It was very tasty. There are two more Tori no Ichi. Please come and visit us.
