When it comes to pickles from Shinshu, nozawana is well known, but in southern Shinshu, gensuke kabuna pickles are cherished. Gensuke kabuna becomes sweeter and more flavorful after exposure to frost. As the cold grows harsher at this time of year, Toyooka Village has entered the ideal harvesting season for gensuke kabuna. This is the view of Onneto today (November 25). The road from the national highway into Onneto is packed snow and ice. Please take great care when traveling. The surface of Onneto has a thin layer of ice only along the shore. It will still take some time before the lake freezes solid. The Onneto Line road leading to the lake will be closed beyond Nonaka Onsen at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, and will be closed to vehicles for the winter (until April 11 next year). The road from the national highway to the hot spring will remain open, but you will not be able to drive past that point to the lake, so please be aware of this.

Tadachi Washi Papermaking Experience 2024! The tradition of washi papermaking has long been passed down in the Tadachi area of Nagiso town. At one time it was an important winter side industry for farming families. Although Tadachi washi vanished for a while with the spread of Western paper, the town restored the house of Tadachi Washi in 1985 to preserve the traditional techniques and share them with many people. Isehara Event Last Weekend 2024 On Saturday, November 16, the 44th Livestock Festival, Agriculture Festival, and Citizen Activity (Support Center) Festa were held in the same area on the same day, drawing many visitors. Kururin also made an appearance, the open-air market sold out quickly and was a great success, and people enjoyed a day interacting with animals 🐄 and taking part in many hands-on booths. On Sunday, November 17, the Rakuichi Rakuza market held at Hachiman Shrine in Higashi-Otake showed many people enjoying conversations with shopkeepers and had a lively atmosphere!

[Event: Report on the November 9 (Sat) Salt Road Walk!] Here is a report on our autumn Salt Road Walk, where participants felt history underfoot. The walk began in the Sha district at Nishina Shinmeigu Shrine. The morning started shrouded in mist, but the sky cleared into perfect blue as the day progressed. Participants enjoyed walking while gazing up at the snow-capped Northern Alps. Even in that cold, a Ezo squirrel visited the backyard of the Tokachigawa Onsen Tourist Guide Center! Its little clasped paws looked utterly adorable 😊 That cute sight cheered me up this morning 😊 Today in Otofukecho the minimum temperature was -7.1°C, as cold as early December. Frost formed on the cars, leaving them completely white. Even in such cold weather, the garden behind the Tokachigawa Onsen Tourist Association was visited by an Ezo squirrel!
