Today in Shintoku, the low temperature is -5°C, but I found something heartwarming at Shintoku Station.✨ They sell "Children's Tickets"—sweets tickets purchased to give to kids.👦👧 Children up to high school age can receive them, and they can use the tickets for a drink🧋 or sweets🍭 at the station shop, Shintoku Stella Station, located inside Shintoku Station. It warms the heart😊 This initiative aims to make children smile😄. Travelers and people visiting Shintoku for work who support this effort can buy tickets at Shintoku Station Stella Station, so please consider purchasing one.

Halloween Fun!! Before we knew it, November had arrived. There are less than two months left in the year. Here is a report on the “Ha”lloween event held in Nishiokoppe Village on October 28. The puppet-theater group Doremi and ALT families decorated the venue from the day before, eager to delight the children. The ALT families’ game corner was a big hit, featuring tattoo stickers that leave color on the skin if pressed for ten seconds and pumpkin-rolling bowling. During the puppet show, a scene with darts prompted the audience to throw candy. We worried in rehearsal whether the candy would stick and whether everyone would throw, but we were glad so much candy stuck! Children carried bags they had decorated themselves and went around the spots at the end to collect candy. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Halloween!

[English/Japanese] The other day I bought a French pastry called Galette des Rois at Patisserie Tatsuya Sasaki, just a four-minute walk from Nishi Hachioji! It is well known in France as the cake eaten on January 6. The cake is not only delicious but also fun, since a small ceramic figurine is hidden inside and whoever finds it becomes king. What do you do for the New Year in your country? Most of our international students celebrate their New Year in February or April! They enjoy lively times, eating traditional foods from their countries and taking part in festivals. When a new year begins, you feel refreshed 😊 We wish you all a happy new year! There is a candy shop a two-minute walk from the school. A dagashi shop sells snacks for children. The sweets cost 10 yen, 20 yen, and other prices that kids can afford. The dagashi are illustrated with scenes from Momotaro (a Japanese folktale), images of maneki-neko (traditional beckoning cat ornaments), and festival happi coats, so visitors can learn about Japanese culture. The other day, during a break in class, I gave the students some dagashi as a gift and they were very happy. They especially loved the candies that crackled and popped in their mouths!
