In August 2023, I climbed the mountain to photograph Yakusugi. We walked for 10 hours round trip, and along the way, we saw wonderful scenery and powerful Yakusugi cedars. The move was overwhelming at first, but that made my trip to see the sunset at Ohama Beach even more wonderful. This picture captures the simple beauty of life on the island, with its bountiful nature and kind people. Now, when I listen to famous songs like Begin's 「島人ぬ宝」 and The Boom's 「島歌」, I can better understand the complex feelings and love that those musicians have for their homes.
