Today we’ll introduce what to wear for the cross-country skiing leg of the Winter Triathlon. Many people who want to compete wonder what to wear. You might be curious how it differs from what you’d wear at an alpine ski resort.
For cross-country skiing, lighter clothing than typical downhill ski wear is best. Choose garments that allow free movement and are easy to take off and put on. When I first competed, I wore downhill ski clothing and got hot while moving, which left me sweating and my clothes soaked… For that reason, wearing quick-drying base layers to prevent chill from sweat is essential! ✨ (The third photo shows me in downhill ski wear—funny, I know.)

Wakasagi ice fishing opened on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Horokayanto in Bansei, Taiki Town, located near the Hidaka Mountain Range.
Please note that operations may be suspended without notice for safety reasons due to weather or ice conditions. Thank you for your understanding.

[ Open Period ] From Sunday, December 29, 2024, until late February 2025, subject to ice conditions.
[ Opening Hours ] From 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
[ Fishing Fee ]
Adults (junior high school students and older): 700 yen

Winter Mount Oyama ✨ Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays from January 11 to January 26, 2025 ✨
This winter, for seven days only, the Oyama Cable Car line will be illuminated and operate night services with views until 7:00 PM.
On Sunday, January 12, the Oyama Sky Lantern® will be launched from Oyama Afuri Shrine Lower Shrine at 4:30 PM, and popular characters Kururin, Kanamin, and Mokoron will appear on rotating weekends (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays).

The view from Oyama Afuri Shrine Lower Shrine was awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan. The nightscape seen through the clear winter air is indescribably beautiful and captivating.
Please take this opportunity to join the many events.

Snow Fairy
Did you know that there is a snow fairy in Hokkaido?
Its name is "Shimaenaga"
Originally, this wild bird called Enaga resembled a long-handled ladle in appearance.
The chief of the handle (e) → named Enaga
In fact, there are long-tailed moths in Honshu, but this pure white subspecies of long-tailed moth only lives in Hokkaido
That's why Hokkaido is called Shima.
The long-tailed moth, which lives only in Shima→ was named Shimaenaga

For that reason, it is also called a bird that signals snow

When I was shooting at Kawasaki Daishi, there was a person with an atmosphere, so I called out to him.
There were a lot of people there because it was the third day of the day, but miraculously, I was able to take a picture at the moment when the person was able to do it, and I was able to capture the atmosphere that this person had.
What impressed me was that in the conversation, he said, "I'm very happy to be able to get older as I get older."

Fire Department New-Year Review Ceremony

Today, Sunday, January 5, the fire brigade held its New-Year review ceremony at the Town Hall Parking Lot 🚒✨

The car thermometer read minus 4°C as we headed to the scene 😂 It was a freezing ceremony ❄️
Although I was fully bundled up and cheekily stood near the heater to take photos…

The firefighters formed ranks with a poised, unfazed bearing that made them look truly impressive…👏

The squad training demonstration showed sharp, disciplined movements born of daily practice, which was extremely reassuring 🥹✨

The mass water discharge that followed sent colorful columns of water high into the sky and was incredibly powerful 🤩

They moved a fair distance to prepare before the discharge, and thanks to everyone’s perfectly synchronized, efficient actions it proceeded smoothly; I’m truly grateful for the fire brigade’s daily efforts 🙇‍♀️！

The ceremony concluded without issue after awards were presented to firefighting personnel, brigade members, distinguished contributors to firefighting, and families who support the brigade 🏆💫

To the fire brigade, who always protect our town and keep residents safe in their daily lives, thank you so much ✨
