[Fujiya Hotel] Limited-time sale until Thursday, February 29: “Petite Pomme” and “Hakone Anzan Ensemble”! Fujiya Hotel has launched a limited-time sale of two collaborative items—“Petite Pomme” and “Hakone Anzan Ensemble”—created with students from Kanrei Shirayuri Gakuen High School, at the Bakery & Sweets Picot. The sale runs from Saturday, January 27, 2024, through Thursday, February 29, 2024. Supporting the school’s PBL (Project Based Learning) program, this collaboration came together through shared commitment to the initiative. Under the theme “Develop a new specialty to turn Gen Z into repeat visitors,” students and the hotel’s bakery chefs held repeated discussions. From the first meeting, it took about six months to reach the product launch. Prototype items were sold at the school festival, and, based on questionnaire feedback, the products were further refined. The students’ opinions guided improvements to the recipe, pricing, and promotional methods, shaping the final commercial breads. Please enjoy these items born from a collaboration between students with fresh, next-generation sensibilities and the reliably developed flavors Fujiya Hotel has refined over many years. [Sales location] Fujiya Hotel Bakery & Sweets Picot [Sales period] Limited time only: Saturday, January 27, 2024–Thursday, February 29, 2024 [Hours] 9:00–17:00

Odawara Flower Garden 2024 Plum Festival ~About 300 varieties and 500 plum trees in full bloom~ The Keiryu Plum Garden is a vivid plum grove planted with about 300 varieties and 500 flowering plum trees, from early bloomers to late bloomers, boasting one of the largest selections of varieties in the Kanto region. This year’s theme is “The Shapes of Flowers — The Individual Charms Created by Petals.” We introduce the differences in flower shapes and blooming styles by variety. Please enjoy the delicate beauty of the plum blossoms. Focus on Red Plums in 2024! This year’s theme is “Red Plum — The Brilliant Flower Plum,” highlighting red-plum varieties. The difference between red plums and white plums is not the flower color but the color of the pith when the tree’s trunk is cut. This year we focus on this lesser-known way to tell them apart and on the characteristics of red plums. Enjoy the appeal of red plums through the quiz rally and informational panels installed throughout the plum garden.

Isehara Flower Report 2024.02.02 Plum Blossoms - Hinata Yakushi…starting to bloom - Sports Park…in full bloom - Maruyama Castle Ruins Park…in full bloom Under a chillier sky than yesterday, the red plum blossoms are proudly in full bloom. A beautiful weeping plum tree stands in the grounds of Hinata Yakushi, and its view beside the stone lanterns is very picturesque. There is a plum grove on the back hill. Small, charming white plum blossoms are beginning to appear here and there. I found plum trees on a slope inside the Sports Park. These are vivid pink red plums. Cherry trees surround them, making this a spot full of spring blooms. At Maruyama Castle Ruins Park, plum trees that appear over three meters tall line the area. Their overlapping petals are stunning. Some people were enjoying a stroll.

Setsubun Festival Tomorrow The festival will be held at three shrines in Isehara City. ・Lower Shrine of Oyama Afuri Shrine…Only for related parties and those who applied ・Sannomiya Hibita Shrine…Koban coin toss at 10:00, 12:00, and 15:00 ・Isehara Daijingu Shrine…Bean-throwing at 15:00 Oni out—fortune in! This ritual drives away evil spirits and prays for a healthy, happy year ahead. There is a tradition that eating as many beans as your age will bring good fortune. Lively bean-throwing ceremonies take place on the grounds of the three shrines in Isehara City. People dressed as the bean-throwing hosts line up on a temporary stage and, with calls, throw lucky beans all at once. The beans are packed in small bags with lottery tickets inside, and local children eagerly scramble to collect them. At Hibita Shrine, the demon-driving ceremony is a highlight and a traditional event. By the way, if you throw beans inside the house, don’t you sometimes find a bean you missed when doing the year-end big cleaning? For details, please see the Isehara City Tourism Association website.

Kururin House Valentine♡ ~News from Kururin House inside the station~ February starts today. At Kururin House inside the station, the Kururins welcome everyone in a Valentine mood. At the 2023 Dōkan Festival, Kururin marked 10 years since debut, and March 1, the city’s founding day, is celebrated as Kururin’s birthday. Kururin, the official image character of Isehara City, has become a true symbol of the town. He wears a top made from the traditional Oyama spinning top craft on his head. The bellflower mark on Kururin’s back represents the city flower, and they say touching it brings happiness. Responding to Isehara citizens’ fondness for Kururin, the tourism association has planned and proposed various products. The lineup now includes classic Pilot ballpoint pens, notepads and other stationery, nylon eco bags, pin badges, mugs and more. Kururin goods available only in Isehara make great gifts!

Hakone Ekiden Museum A display of the Hakone yosegi marquetry trophies awarded to the winners of the outbound race is now on view! Since 1997, with the cooperation of the outbound winners from the 73rd race onward, the Hakone Ekiden Museum has exhibited the Tokyo-Hakone University Ekiden outbound victory trophies in the museum’s special exhibition space through Sunday, March 31, 2024. This year marked the 100th anniversary of the Hakone Ekiden, and both the outbound and return legs drew loud cheers from along the course. The runners’ determined efforts to win left a powerful impression. The outbound victory trophies are crafted in Hakone yosegi marquetry, a traditional Hakone craft. Artisans combine woods of different colors to create patterns, so no two pieces are identical. Each trophy is therefore a one-of-a-kind championship cup in the world. NICE TO MEET EVERYONE WHO WATCHES COOL JAPAN VIDEOS! This is the Kawasaki City Tourism Association. We will guide you through the charm of the city that will make you want to visit Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Best regards! ◆◆◆ What is Kawasaki City ◆◆◆ Kawasaki City is located in the northeastern part of Kanagawa Prefecture, between Tokyo and Yokohama, and is a vibrant city with a population of about 1.54 million as of April 2023 Reiwa 5. Since it is adjacent to Tokyo, it has flourished as a transportation hub since ancient times. It has both the aspect of an industrial zone and the aspect of a city where nature and culture coexist. Kawasaki City has a long history, and in the Edo period, it flourished as one of the 53 Tokaido roads. In addition, Kawasaki Daishi Heiken-ji Temple has been crowded with worshippers since ancient times, and about 3 million people visit Kawasaki Daishi for the first time alone, and the number of first-time worshippers in 2023 is the third highest in Japan after Meiji Jingu Shrine and Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Currently, the King Sky Front, which creates new industries based on world-class research, with a focus on the life sciences and environmental fields, is located right in front of Haneda Airport, making it a hub for open innovation. ◆◆◆ Introduction of sightseeing spots in Kawasaki City ◆◆◆ Here are some of the most popular tourist spots in Kawasaki City, albeit briefly. ◇ Tokaido Kawasaki Hostel Exchange Center You can learn about the history of the area at a facility that conveys the atmosphere that flourished as a post town "Kawasaki-juku" on the 53rd line of the Tokaido Highway. ◇Kawasaki Ukiyo-e Gallery It is a museum that exhibits valuable ukiyo-e prints that are highly regarded both in Japan and abroad, directly connected to the north exit of JR Kawasaki Station. ◇ Ikuta Ryokuchi It is the largest urban park in Kawasaki City and is popular as an urban oasis. Admission is free, and many cherry blossom viewers visit as a famous place for cherry blossoms in the spring season. ◇Kawasaki City Fujiko F. Fujio Museum It is a facility where you can experience the world of the works of the national manga artist "Fujiko F. Fujio-sensei" who created "Doraemon". In addition to Japanese, voice guidance is available in four languages: English, Chinese, and Korean, so foreign tourists visiting Japan can enjoy it with confidence. ◇Kawasui Kawasaki Aquarium It is a new sensation entertainment aquarium that opened in front of Kawasaki Station in July 2020. Inside the museum, the beautiful watersides of the world are reproduced, and various creatures are exhibited. ◇ Todoroki Ryokuchi It is a park located almost in the center of Kawasaki City, and it is an urban park with facilities such as Todoroki track and field stadium, the home of Kawasaki Frontale of the J1 soccer team, and tennis courts. ◆◆◆ Kawasaki City Factory Night View ◆◆◆ The night view of the factories on the "Metropolitan Expressway Kanagawa No. 6 Kawasaki Line", "Ogibashi", and "around the Shiohama Canal" in Kawasaki City, which has developed as an industrial zone, creates a fantastic contrast of light and shadow, creating a otherworldly scenery. The factory night view cruise, where you can see the night view of the factory area such as the Keihin Industrial Area from the boat, is also popular, and you can enjoy the scenery that can only be experienced here. ◆◆◆ Events and festivals in Kawasaki City ◆◆◆ ◇Kawasaki Daishi Wind Chime City It is a festival that represents Kawasaki City, which is held every year in July, and is popular as a summer tradition. The cool sound of about 30,000 wind chimes of 900 types gathered from all over the country heals visitors. ◇Kawasaki Sanno Festival It is the largest festivals in the Kawasaki area, held every August at Inage Shrine, and the highlight is the Great Mikoshi Shrine. In addition, the "Ancient Miyaza Ceremony," a ceremony in which dishes using ancient cooking methods are offered to the gods, is designated as a Kanagawa Prefectural Folk Cultural Property. Kawasaki City is a fascinating city full of unique landscapes where history, rich nature, and advanced industrial areas coexist. Please visit this wonderful city and experience it all. The area around Kawasaki Station is constantly being reborn as a new city in a new history, but when you step into the alley, you will see a row of bars full of Showa retro. We also recommend a trip to find your favorite store in Kawasaki City! We will continue to deliver tourist information about Kawasaki City to everyone, so thank you.

Isehara Flower Report January 22, 2024 Plum blossoms at Hinata Yakushi, Ugakubunko, and the General Sports Park …They are beginning to bloom. Plum trees across Isehara City are starting to flower. Perhaps due to the warm winter, they seem to be blooming earlier than usual. Their fragrance is lovely, and they let us feel the arrival of spring a little sooner. By the way, the wintersweet (roubai) also blooms this season with yellow flowers, but it belongs to the wintersweet family and is a different species from the rose-family plums. In any case, we look forward to seeing them in full bloom.

■ Mt. Ooyama / Oyama Cable Car / Daisenji Temple / Oyama Afuri Shrine
Mt. Ooyama, at 1,251.7 meters and part of Tanzawa-Ōyama Quasi-National Park, is one of the most popular hiking spots in the Kanto region.
In 2016 it was designated a Japan Heritage site.
From the summit you can see the Sagami Plain and even Tokyo’s skyscrapers on clear days, and the mountain is listed among Kanagawa’s 50 scenic spots.

・Oyama Cable Car
The Ōyama Cable Line, commonly called the Oyama Cable Car, is a 0.8 km cable car.
With large windows to enjoy Ooyama’s nature, it provides easy access toward the summit.

・Daisenji Temple
Daisenji sits on the mountainside and is also known as Mount Amefuri.
In autumn the maple trees flanking the stone steps to the main hall turn brilliant red, making it a famous spot for autumn foliage.
A “Momiji Festival” is held and draws many visitors.
There are four types of goshuin (temple stamps), including a striking gold-letter special edition.
[Access: Get off at Daisenji Station on the Oyama Cable Car, about a 3-minute walk]

・Oyama Afuri Shrine
Founded over 2,200 years ago, the shrine enshrines the three deities Ōyamatsumi no Ōkami, Ooi-Kazuchi-no-Kami, and Takaokami-no-Kami.
The main shrine sits at the summit of Mt. Ooyama, with the lower shrine located on the mountainside.
The view from Afuri Shrine Station on the Oyama Cable Car, which earned two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan, is a must-see when you get off the cable car.

■ Hinata Yakushi
Officially named Hinatayama Hojo-bo, it enshrines a Yakushi Nyorai carved from a single block of wood and is one of Japan’s three great Yakushi temples.
Until the end of the Edo period it was called Mount Hyūga Ryōzen-ji and served as a center for Hinata Shugendo, where monks practiced ascetic training in this sacred area.
Every year in mid-September red spider lilies bloom around Hinata Yakushi and attract many visitors.

Hinata Yakushi offers many sights starting with the Kongorikishi statues along the approach.
The Hoden, built to store cultural properties, houses 23 historic Buddhist statues, including eight nationally designated items and two prefecturally designated items.
The Yakushi-do, the main hall with its thatched roof, is also designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

■ Isehara Tounoyama Ryokuchi Park
The park and citizen green space together cover about 13 hectares, with trails and lawns where you can relax and enjoy nature at a gentle pace.
The well-maintained paths make hiking enjoyable and safe even for small children.

■ Mitakeen
This mikan orchard covers about 1 hectare and grows approximately 900 mikan trees.
Mikan picking season runs from mid-September to around February.
From mid-September you can pick early varieties such as Hinano-hime and Nitta No. 1, and from early October varieties like Miyagawa wase and Taguchi wase are available.

From spring through summer you can also enjoy barbecues and vegetable-harvesting experiences.
Because Mitakeen sits on the mountainside, on clear days you can enjoy views of Sagami Bay, Enoshima, and the Boso Peninsula.
