At the Cultural Exchange Hall in Echizen Pottery Village, an exhibition of works "Echizen potters" is being held in, which exhibits the works of potters in the prefecture.

Please take a look at the works that express "now" along with the thoughts and unknown profiles of more than 50 potters!

Fukui Prefectural Pottery Museum is a museum of Echizen pottery. We will introduce a documents museum where you can see and learn about Echizen pottery, a pottery class where you can make and enjoy it, a tea garden that you can use and taste, a museum shop, and nature in the Seasonal Nature.

When it comes to introducing a country and its vibrant culture to newcomers at the airport, making thoughtful choices about what to showcase is essential because first impressions matter. During my recent trip, I stumbled upon Edo-koji, a charming Edo Market Place in the international terminal at Haneda Airport. The area is adorned with quaint, wooden shops that evoke the spirit of an Edo-era village, complete with a small stage that occasionally features captivating cultural displays.
On this visit, I was drawn to a stunning pair of two-folded byōbu (folding screens) featuring an enchanting painting of the Wind God and Thunder God. This remarkable piece, crafted by the renowned Rinpa artist Ogata Kōrin, is a replica of an exquisite work by Tawaraya Sōtatsu, illustrating Raijin, the tempestuous god of lightning and storms, alongside Fūjin, the gentle god of wind. Honestly, what could be cooler than this? It’s a perfect representation of Japan’s rich artistic heritage right at the heart of the airport!

●Hosaigama, Mr. Yoshida
He was born in Echizen Town (formerly Oda Town), the production area of Echizen pottery, so he went on to the path of pottery.
Focusing on Reproduction of the colors of Nature with a sense of the seasons, I am also working hard to create works for Japanese exhibitions and contemporary craft exhibitions in addition to making ceramics.
Recently, together with my son, I am working hard every day to convey the charm of Echizen pottery with two generations of parents and children.

●Toseisha Izumi
At the age of 35, he moved from Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture to Echizen Town, Fukui Prefecture.
I like the environment where I can concentrate on creating works in the idyllic Satoyama atmosphere.
Mr. Izumi is characterized by his works with a simple texture for everyday use. He is a potter who places great importance on contact with customers, such as pottery experiences on business trips.

Oya was born in Osohara in his Local Echizen Town (former Miyazaki Village).
I grew up in a pottery family, where both my father and mother were potters.
He aims to create works that are fun and relaxing to use, and his cute works with animal motifs are also eye-catching.

While studying art at university, I wanted to create my own things, so I entered the world of ceramics, where I could create my favorite shapes with three-dimensional objects.
Echizen pottery is a place where I like the freedom of the artist to have his or her own style, the climate that nurtures the artist, and the atmosphere of the land.
He is characterized by his works using the powdering technique (white makeup), and continues to make everyday vessels that are rooted in the life that he wishes he had.

【Kiso Living Crafts Museum】
On August 2, 2024, "Usage Crafts" opened at the Kiso Living Crafts Museum Art Gallery. A permanent exhibition hall where traditional Shinshu crafts are exhibited.

Kintsugi is a traditional restoration technique of Japan.

I've been interested in trying it for a long time, but I thought it was a technology that used lacquer and had high hurdles.

This summer, the Kamakura Sculpture Museum was indebted to Enoden's "Mizutamaten" held in Kamakura. Kamakura carving experiences are held regularly, but they hold a kintsugi class once a month, so I applied without hesitation.

A pulp art plate made by transferring the texture of pulped paper to clay, the lid of the teapot that my mother liked and used, the ceramic teacup that my late master bought for me because it was a little chipped and I used it carefully with glue ...

Things that have been chipped or broken even if you use them carefully, and things that you want to repair when Kintsugi is made, are close to you.

In the monthly class, you can learn how to make useful tools for kintsugi, so it is very informative and fun.

While being impressed by the ideas of the people of the past, such as mixing lacquer and flour to glue the applied parts, I thought about the warm hearts of the ancient Japan people who cherish things.

The teacher told me that this would be what would happen if I did this, but I wanted to go this far, so I was in a little hurry to work on it, and it turned out to be a sure thing, so I reflected a little.

"Children of the Showa Era" is a doll work with the theme of children of the Showa era.

It is divided into two parts: "Hometown Edition" with the theme of people living in satoyama, and "People of the Sea" with the theme of people living in the sea.

It consists of a total of 64 works and 332 figures, and at the exhibition, 1/4 scale doll works are lined up with seasonal background paintings in the background.

So far, he has held doll exhibitions at museums and department stores throughout the Japan.
