Nature Contact Lecture Series at Kawayu Visitor Center Kawayu Visitor Center will host two lectures in the Nature Contact series. In October, Tomoko Yoshikawa, Professor Emerita of the Faculty of Agriculture at Tamagawa University, will present “Life in Volcanic Lakes: Ecological Connections of Lake Kussharo.” In December, Mitsuhiro Nakagawa, Researcher and Specially Appointed Professor in the Faculty of Science at Hokkaido University, will give a talk titled “Why Is Lake Kussharo So Shallow? The Secrets of Atosanupuri Volcano Revealed by Recent Research.” Our region spreads around the Kussharo Caldera, shaped by major volcanic activity. Lake Kussharo, Japan’s largest caldera lake, stands as a symbol of Akan-Mashu National Park and has nurtured a wide variety of life thanks to volcanic bounty. To take a fresh look at this special lake and share its appeal and origins, we planned these two lectures. First, an exploration of the lake’s connections with its living creatures; second, a clear explanation of volcanic findings uncovered by recent research, delivered gently by each expert. We hope that encountering the grand natural story behind the familiar landscape of Lake Kussharo will give you a deeper understanding of and pride in the lake and the park. “Life in Volcanic Lakes: Ecological Connections of Lake Kussharo” Tomoko Yoshikawa, Professor Emerita, Faculty of Agriculture, Tamagawa University, will appear as speaker. Date: Saturday, October 25 — 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM Venue: Kawayu Visitor Center, second floor Admission: Free (no registration required; capacity 50) “Why Is Lake Kussharo So Shallow? Black hair buried Torii shrine gate 2019.04.30 The massive explosion of Sakurajima on January 12, 1914, 1914 Taisho 3 filled the Kurogami area with volcanic ash and pumice. The Torii shrine gate gate of the Beli Gosha Shrine Kurokami Shrine, which was 3 meters high, was so terrible that it was buried, leaving only Kasagi. The Torii shrine gate gate has become less than the height of a person, but the mayor of Higashi-Sakurajima Village at the time stopped digging it up to convey the threat of Eruption to future generations, so it remains in its original form to the present day. The Torii shrine gate gate of the buried Kurokami Shrine and the gatepost of the Nagano clan house were designated as natural monuments of the prefecture on April 28, 1958 Showa 33. Next door, an old Akou tree that miraculously survived stands quietly.

Kure Volcano, Hiroshima Recommended spots in Hiroshima #Kurahashi Volcano 👈 1 from 📸 the volcano on Kurahashi Island It is a superb view spot overlooking the 360° Seto Inland Sea. There are various climbing routes here, and there are many scenic points. I want to go again! It's a wonderful mountain that makes you think! 😊 ◾️ Currently, the road that can be reached near the summit is closed due to falling rocks, and you will have to climb from the middle of the mountain. It takes about 40 minutes from the road and about 1 hour from the mountain trail, but I definitely recommend the mountain trail! The stairs are a little tough, but... 😅

🧗‍♂️ This time, we introduce one of the area’s major landmarks, Mt. Tarumae!! 🌋 Mt. Tarumae stands at 1,041 meters and is famed as a rare triple-vent active volcano. You can hike the trail that circles the crater, known as the “ohachi meguri.” Nearby is Mt. Fuppushi, and you can traverse between the two peaks. 🥾 It takes about 60 minutes by car from the city to the 7th Station parking lot, and about 50 minutes to reach the summit from the 7th Station, making it a great choice even for beginners!! 💁‍♀️ The mountain is beloved for alpine plant observation and sweeping views of Lake Shikotsu and the Pacific Ocean, offering an accessible taste of serious mountaineering. 🥰 The municipal road between the Mt. Tarumae 5th Gate and the 7th Station parking lot, “Shido Tarumae-san Kanko Dosen,” had been closed for winter, but it was finally reopened on Friday, May 26 at 5:00 p.m. 🎉✨ The adjacent parking lot is free to use and holds about 70 cars. 🚙 Why not work up a sweat on Mt. Tarumae this summer? 🥵 [ Mt. Tarumae address ] 059-1265 Tarumae, Tomakomai City, Hokkaido [ Parking lot address ] 066-0283 Morappu, Chitose City, Hokkaido ⚠ Attention ⚠ ※ When climbing, prepare thoroughly before you start (and don’t forget to file a mountain-climbing notification!). The current eruption alert level is 1, but there is strong volcanic gas emission and some ground heating. Also, parts of the trail are slippery, so please take care. ※ The “Shido Tarumae-san Kanko Dosen” is a narrow gravel road—drive slowly and yield to oncoming vehicles. ※ The parking lot can fill up early on holidays. Please be aware of this in advance.
