Kamagaya Daibutsu The Kamagaya Daibutsu is a bronze seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, created in 1776 by Bun'emon Okuniya (Fukuda) in Kamagaya-juku for the purpose of ancestor worship, commissioned from the metalworker Takagawa Shūzen in Kanda, Edo. During the opening ceremony of the Buddha's eyes, the road from his home to the Daibutsu, about three towns (approximately 327 meters), was covered with Ryukyu fabric, and more than fifty monks were invited to perform a ceremonial procession accompanied by music. It is said that the food served at that time was extravagant, prepared for 300 people by a high-end restaurant in Edo, with gold and silver decorations on the second course, and local folk songs of the time sang, "Silver in the bowl, gold in the dish, and for the grand finale, golden coins on the plate." The Kamagaya Daibutsu was located along the Kioroshi Kaidō, connecting Edo to Chōshi, making it a landmark for travelers. In the illustrations of the "Kisoji Meisho Zue" depicting famous places along the Tokaido Road, the Kamagaya Daibutsu is shown alongside people traveling the road, with horses running in the grasslands. The Daibutsu at the entrance of Kamagaya-juku was likely well-known among the people of Edo. The Kamagaya Daibutsu has been cherished by the local community, surviving the anti-Buddhist movements of the Meiji Era and metal requisitions during the Asia-Pacific War. During the three-day weekend, I finally experienced my long-awaited first riverbed dining. For some reason, a certain famous somen phrase popped into my head while I was here in Akizuki, Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Contrary to the soothing sounds of water I had imagined, I was overwhelmed by the dynamic sound of rushing water, like "gogo." At the beginning of each month, I secretly enjoy changing my smartphone wallpaper to a recent memory photo. Even in the sweltering summer heat, I can't wait for August to change it to this photo!

【Gathering of Kabu!】 The longest day of the year with the most sunlight. With the sunrise, about 20 Kabu riders set off from GA.KOPPER Ground. The "Geshi Kabu" event where Kabu riders gather on the summer solstice. This year marks the 5th edition! On Saturday, June 20th, the day before the solstice, Kabu began to arrive one after another from early afternoon, and familiar faces greeted each other with lively conversation. It was a bit chilly that day, with a misty rain falling. Even so, the chatter among the Kabu riders never ceased…! As a fire was lit behind GA.KOPPER, the Kabu riders naturally gathered around, enjoying a relaxing time with drinks in hand. At this year's Geshi Kabu, the word "Geshi" was seen everywhere, on T-shirts, sake barrels, and masu. Gathered around the fire, both Kabu and people formed a circle, sipping sake and savoring meat and vegetables. The loudest cheers erupted when the pizza baked in the earth oven was served. Instead of "Pizza Hut," the "Kabu Hut" delivered pizzas to participants on Kabu! 🍕 With our stomachs filled, we danced to the live performance of the Hokkaido Bon Dance and the Geshi Kabu Ondo, and gradually made our way into the room. The sunrise on the summer solstice was at 3:42 AM. Despite the fun, everyone had an early departure. Though we all started off together, we set off at our own pace in our desired directions. 【GOK SOUND Workshop】 June 13th A "PA and Recording Workshop" was held by Yoshiaki Kondo from GOK SOUND. From 1 PM to 7 PM, we enjoyed a full six hours! In a room at GA.KOPPER (commonly known as the Sandbag Room), live PA practitioners, musicians, those recording their own songs, and people running live houses gathered. At the beginning, a very important discussion on electricity, which is essential for handling equipment. Just in time, thunder rumbled outside the window ⚡️ After a break with bagels and baked goods, we experienced mixing songs recorded on analog tape! We freely adjusted the knobs, bringing in and cutting out the sound of specific instruments, balancing the audio. Watching the analog tape spin round and seeing how the sound changed with our hands was exhilarating. In the latter half, we improvised and recorded participants' original songs. Amid the good tension of being recorded, everyone's adaptability was impressive. Listening to the sounds we played back from the tape... Before we knew it, six hours had flown by. I was glad to see the two from GOK SOUND again this year. Thank you for the live PA the following day as well!! About 2.5 km from Tomakomai Station, there is a park commonly known as "Kira Kira Park." You can see the moored ships up close, and it hosts large events such as the outdoor music festival "Tomakomai Mirai Fest." The park features a large boat-shaped playground popular with children. "Kira Kira Park" is also a nighttime view spot of Tomakomai Port. Be sure to visit when you're in Tomakomai!

【Window Art at Kamu】 The windows of Kamu are beautifully decorated! Using crayons that can be drawn on the window and wiped off with a wet cloth, visitors to Kamu were invited to draw again this year🖍 This time, we set a somewhat abstract theme of "Flowers and Songs." That said, the children freely draw their favorite vehicles and game characters. No matter what kind of drawings they create, when the windows are filled with art, it feels like the roadside station comes alive, bringing a smile to our faces. The windows along the corridor leading from the restroom to the hall are adorned with drawings from children and adults who visited on the first day of the market. On the Flower Park side of the hall, where the mechanical organ plays, there are wonderful paintings by local volunteers lined up. Five artists each expressed the theme in their own unique ways, and I hope many people will come to see the five painted windows together. The exhibition is scheduled to run until mid-July. Noite de Gran Chi A house standing across from GA.KOPPER guesthouse. It’s a small café named "Gran Chi." We held a live performance at this favorite place, where I often came for event meetings, dinner with acquaintances, and sometimes to practice piano. Inside the warm room with a wood stove, it was a night filled with music and voices. Trombone and guitar performances. Poetry readings. Band performances. With a break for roll cake time, there was also guitar singing. Though it was less than two hours long, the smiles and applause from the audience, and the laughter of the café owner and the sound engineer, were all delightful moments. What can we do next in this place? Even though the live just ended, I feel a bit restless.

Tomoya Kaneko Solo Live in Nishiokoppe Born in Shimokawacho, Tomoya Kaneko is active not only as a singer-songwriter but also as a radio host and variety show personality. In Nishiokoppe Village, there was someone who attended the same high school and belonged to the same soft tennis club as Kaneko. That person invited Kaneko and organized the live event. As part of Nishiokoppe Village’s 100th anniversary celebrations, the concert used village subsidies and received support from the organizing committee members as well as many villagers and people from outside the village. At the entrance and in front of the hall at Hotel Rimu, the live venue, life-size (slightly smaller) panels of Kaneko and a welcome board greeted guests. Inside the venue, Tomoya Kaneko fans’ uchiwa fans were placed on each table, and the stage featured illuminated letters reading KANEKO TOMOYA. Kaneko’s humor-filled talk and passionate singing electrified the audience. During the show, as people approached to take photos, a sweaty Kaneko was nearby. Standing alone on stage in front of 110 guests, he shone as he entertained the crowd. He joyfully responded to segments that brought children onstage, and the excited children, even when they weren’t onstage, stood toward the back of the hall and swayed happily.
