【Window Art at Kamu】 The windows of Kamu are beautifully decorated! Using crayons that can be drawn on the window and wiped off with a wet cloth, visitors to Kamu were invited to draw again this year🖍 This time, we set a somewhat abstract theme of "Flowers and Songs." That said, the children freely draw their favorite vehicles and game characters. No matter what kind of drawings they create, when the windows are filled with art, it feels like the roadside station comes alive, bringing a smile to our faces. The windows along the corridor leading from the restroom to the hall are adorned with drawings from children and adults who visited on the first day of the market. On the Flower Park side of the hall, where the mechanical organ plays, there are wonderful paintings by local volunteers lined up. Five artists each expressed the theme in their own unique ways, and I hope many people will come to see the five painted windows together. The exhibition is scheduled to run until mid-July. Noite de Gran Chi A house standing across from GA.KOPPER guesthouse. It’s a small café named "Gran Chi." We held a live performance at this favorite place, where I often came for event meetings, dinner with acquaintances, and sometimes to practice piano. Inside the warm room with a wood stove, it was a night filled with music and voices. Trombone and guitar performances. Poetry readings. Band performances. With a break for roll cake time, there was also guitar singing. Though it was less than two hours long, the smiles and applause from the audience, and the laughter of the café owner and the sound engineer, were all delightful moments. What can we do next in this place? Even though the live just ended, I feel a bit restless.

(April 26, 2026) Naruko Dam Rainbow Waterfall Light-Up The first arch dam built entirely by Japanese hands Naruko Dam, Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture This event will feature the illuminated overflow of the dam lake, which is at full capacity, lighting up the natural overflow from the top of the dam with LEDs for several days. In the past, cars concentrated on the mountain roads to see this event, causing traffic jams. Complaints from local residents led to its cancellation. Last year, the mountain road to the dam was closed (residents can pass) and the event was resumed through a park-and-ride tour, with shuttle buses guiding visitors from a nearby community center to the dam. Hearing this information, I registered for the life's leftovers and reserved a shuttle bus for the third trip on April 26th back in February. Now, on the day of the event, with the weather forecast predicting rain for the next day, I embarked on a whirlwind tour taking five hours one way from Tokyo and was able to enjoy (and shoot) the view safely. 【Fluffy Hydrangea Wreath】 Wednesday, April 15th The first dry flower workshop of the year was held🪷 Nishiokoppe Village is also being wrapped in the warmth of spring. Surrounded by many flowers, some participants began to feel a sense of excitement as gardening and fieldwork are finally starting. This time, we made wreaths using dried hydrangeas as the base, decorating them with other flowers and fruits. The process of creating parts and attaching them is common in such floral arrangements. Regular attendees quickly formed hydrangea rings, decorated them skillfully, and chatted lively while working. While I struggled to create the hydrangea base, a reliable and experienced neighbor helped me with the parts, making the workshop enjoyable, including those interactions. Thanks to the combinations of hydrangeas and the materials chosen for decoration, each piece was filled with individual touches! Events around GW (April 29 - May 11) Part 2 Children's Kabuki in Hayase (May 3) In Hayase, Mihama Town, Fukui Prefecture, there is a tradition of "Children's Kabuki" performed by elementary school boys that has been passed down for about 150 years. It is said to have originated during the Edo period when cholera spread in Hayase, leading to the offering of Children's Kabuki at local temples and shrines to calm the disease. The head priest of Zuirinji at that time received a divine message stating, "The epidemic is a curse from gods and buddhas; therefore, offer Children's Kabuki to the temples and shrines." The villagers promptly constructed a float for the offering and on May 8 of the following year, they paraded the float to Hiyoshi Shrine, Zuirinji, and Jomoji, offering Children's Kabuki. As the epidemic subsided, this day became the grand festival of Hiyoshi Shrine, and the tradition of Children's Kabuki has been preserved and offered ever since (it is currently held on May 3). "Mother" Mini Live Keiko Takahashi, known as "Mother" from Nishiokoppe Village. Recently, she held a mini live performance before heading to Tokyo for the finals of the Top Artist Contest.🎆 Ishigaki, who came from Tokoro Town to send her support, and Yanjiro with Kumarobo, along with the Nishiokoppe Uenshiri Taiko Drum Group from Nishiokoppe Village, performed. At the beginning of the live, Mother made her entrance from the back of the audience.🎤 While singing a medley of Linda songs, she walked toward the stage, passing close to the audience gathered that day. She also showcased a real shamisen and a shovel shamisen...
