Most of the students enrolled at our school come from Southeast Asia. Nearly every one of their countries has a version of “curry.” When I show them how to make Japanese home-style curry, they are surprised at how different it is from what they know. They are even more amazed to learn that, within Japan, there is another style called Hokkaido curry. Biei is located almost in the center of Hokkaido and has gentle hills. It is full of tourists from spring to autumn, but the snowy winter is also attractive. The blue pond, which became famous when it was previously used as a wallpaper for MacBook, is lit up at night in winter. There was a Biei light-up tour, so I was able to go easily. The blue pond covered with pure white snow was very beautiful in the fantastic illumination.

During the winter, Abashiri lake becom a completely frozen lake. One even can walk in the middle of the lake. During this time smelt fishing is a very popular and exciting events in hokkaido. Several people come here and make a tent. Inside the tent they create a whole by digging out the snow to reach the lake water. Then they do fishing. Although the weather usually very cold but still it provide a great pleasure. In addition to this smelt fishing one can also enjoy the drift ice from the nearby Abashiri port

This time I want to recommend abashiri, a city on the northeastern coast of hokkaido. A city that faced toward sea of okhotsk. During winter you can enjoy drift ice festival. During this season they organize Lake Abashiri smelt fishing. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us. Here in this picture we were actually walking on the frozen lake abashiri. Here one can walk in the middle of frozen lake.

Sapporo Snow Festival The Sapporo Snow Festival was held in earnest for the first time in three years from February 4th.
