Shirahige Shrine has long been revered as a deity of longevity and also as a protector of matchmaking and fertility. In particular, the vermilion great torii rising from Lake Biwa captivates many visitors with its beauty.

Please help ease traffic by visiting on weekdays when it is less crowded or by using the Makino Kogen Free Temporary Parking at the north end of the avenue. If you use public transportation, take JR Makino Station and then the Takashima City Community Bus Makino Highland Line. The avenue and nearby roads are vital local residential streets. Please do not park or stop on the road. The surrounding roads are residential streets. Slow down and watch for pedestrians. So that as many people as possible can enjoy the area, follow photography etiquette and avoid dangerous actions such as stopping on crosswalks or stepping into the roadway to take pictures.

I photographed the World Cultural Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route, capturing the Nakahechi course dyed in autumn colors at Toganoki Chaya and Hosshinmon. Bright autumn leaves on sunny days are of course beautiful, but I also love the calm, mellow scenery on rainy days.

A shot taken at Kajika no Sato in Tambasasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture. The autumn leaves were beautiful.

This is the mouth of the Takase River in Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture. A few small fishing boats that had returned from fishing were moored here. This place is also a peaceful haven for ducks. At dusk, when a breeze stirs and the water turns a reddened hue, it is a time that soothes the heart.

The illumination is powered by renewable energy sourced in line with RE100, and energy-saving LED bulbs are used to support sustainability. Lights are on daily from 5:00 p.m. to midnight.

A small worshipper I met at Kusubian Kannonji Temple, the 20th site I visited on the Kawachi Saigoku 33-temple pilgrimage.

I went to the Kumano Kodo Kougen area to photograph an early winter landscape, and a lonely cat came up to rub against me and wouldn’t leave my side. After a while it climbed onto the fence and struck a pose as if to say, “Use me as your model.” I took a shot with the misty landscape in the background.

I took this at Hachiman-bori Canal in Shiga Prefecture. The trees formed an arch and their soft reflections on the water left a strong impression. This shot felt warm amid the quiet.
