Momosuke Bridge【National Important Cultural Property】

The Momosuke Bridge is one of the largest wooden suspension bridges in Japan with a total length of 247 meters and a width of 2.7 meters over the Kiso River, and you can still walk across it even now.
In the 11th year of the Taisho era, Momosuke Fukuzawa (son-in-law of Yukichi Fukuzawa), who was called the power king, built it as a 🌲🚃 material transportation route for the development of hydroelectric power generation on the Kiso River
As a Village road from 1950 (Showa 25), it was very useful for traffic in both bank villages and for local transportation such as high school and junior high school students commuting to school, but from around 1978 (Showa 53), it was aging and could not be repaired Authentic, so it was on the verge of abandonment. However, there are many voices for preservation and utilization, and along with the Maintenance of Tenpaku Park in the surrounding area, it was restored as a modernization heritage (Nagiso Town Tangible Cultural Property)!
In 1994 (Heisei 6), it was designated as a [National Important Cultural Property].

On this day, foodie Kasai followed a sweet scent and visited Maruyasu Tanakaya Main Branch.

Despite his busy schedule, Managing Director Tsuchihashi kindly spoke with us.
The main store sits near Lake Suwa, and they also operate a shop in front of JR Kami‑Suwa Station, for two locations in Suwa City. The business began as Maruyasu Tanakaya in 1929 from the area in front of Kami‑Suwa Station. This year marks their 95th anniversary, making them a confectionery and cake shop with proud history.
When people think of Maruyasu Tanakaya, they think of the mail‑order Cheese Cake Entremet!!! Beauty adviser Chizu Saeki helped bring wider attention to it. The Cheese Cake Entremet itself has been a flagship product loved for 40 years. They ship nationwide, so we hope people across Japan will enjoy it!

Although Maruyasu Tanakaya is strongly associated with Western sweets, they originally made wagashi (Japanese traditional sweets). The yokan (sweet bean jelly) preserves recipes from that time. Because they once supplied azuki beans and rice, their yokan is made from carefully selected beans—please enjoy it as well!
Managing Director Tsuchihashi’s top pick is Shinano no Kuni!!! This masterpiece features butter castella with chopped chestnuts inside, wrapped in a refreshing lemon cream. It has been loved for about 50 years, echoing the prefectural song beloved by residents, Shinano no Kuni. On the side of the wrapping paper you can even find the old provincial name Tenshuu, as in the song’s lyrics ♪ Shinano no kuni wa～ Ten shuu nii～. I love that packaging so much that I use the previous model of the wrapping paper as teaching material, lol.

I had pictured Maruyasu Tanakaya making Western sweets like the Cheese Cake Entremet, but I was wrong. At the beginning, the shop made Japanese traditional sweets. Yokan (sweet bean jelly) remains from those early recipes.
Mr. Tsuchihashi’s recommendation is Shinano no Kuni: a butter sponge cake with finely chopped chestnuts inside, finished with lemon cream. Sounds delicious, right? Definitely!!!

It is a soy sauce broth with pork and potato heaven.

When the summer season of June ~ August ends, the number of customers drops sharply in Shakotan, but for those who want to go sightseeing slowly and calmly rather than the crowded summer season ~ we recommend sightseeing after September. If the weather is good and the sun is out, it is not as Squid as the summer season, but you can see the beautiful color of the sea of Shakotan Roux. In front of the cape, pampas grass shines, and there is also an autumn scenery such as a larch highway like a movie location and a landscape with silos. Also, in winter, the waves crashing against the rocks are so beautiful that they are sometimes compared to ink paintings. Grand opening today, 12/21! It’s in Nakamise Shopping Street in front of atami station.
I attended the pre-opening yesterday!
They use local Tanna milk and Izu aloe.
Yogurt comes in many varieties, including plain, rich strained, and a limited fresh Atami yogurt.

From today, the lighting of "Welcome Shintoku Illumination" has started in front of Shintoku Station.
