Signs of spring in Miyanomori A friend called me, so I wandered behind the shrine. At my feet, small blue flowers were blooming. Ezo-engosaku (erythronium-like spring flower) They say they also bloom around Kōrakuen. Climbing the steep slope of the ski area you find white Kita-kobushi blossoms in full bloom. At eye level I found buds that hadn’t opened yet. A fuzzy, downy flower bud had fallen to the ground. When I put it in my palm, it felt somehow cute. When the Kita-kobushi blooms, cherry blossoms are said to begin opening before long. #Nishiokoppe Village #Hokkaido #Four seasons #Miyanomori #Kita-kobushi #Ezo-engosaku

“Takenoko Village,” nestled in the center of Minami-Izu Town in the national park, is overflowing with seasonal flavors. Let your children experience the nostalgic tastes of the past—this will surely become a memorable day. Experience bamboo shoot picking across an expansive 490,000-square-meter bamboo grove. Enjoy local specialties sold on site and meals centered on bamboo shoots. The mountains offer seasonal tastes throughout the year: bamboo shoots, shiitake mushrooms, wild mountain vegetables, amanatsu citrus, chestnuts, and shihotake (square bamboo). Take home memories of bamboo craftwork, too—every activity promises fun and a peaceful break from the city bustle. October 10–October 31 Shihotake Picking It’s shihotake season—pick the shoots of this square-shaped bamboo. Although this rare species originates from China, it tastes excellent. Depending on the weather, the season can extend into early November. May Amanatsu Citrus Picking Fully ripened and naturally grown, these fruits offer a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness that fills your mouth with delightful flavor. September Chestnut Gathering The season is planned from early September to early October (subject to change depending on summer weather). For details, please call us. November, December, and March Shiitake Picking Yields depend on rainfall, but you can enjoy the thick, natural shiitake flavor that defines true shiitake mushrooms.”

Folk doll museums around the world have started an exhibition of "May Dolls Irises Festival". May dolls are often decorated as a celebration of the "Tango Festival" on May 5, such as helmet decorations, armor decorations, and general decorations. It is a traditional event that has been cherished as part of Japanese culture since ancient times. In this May doll exhibition, 250 warrior dolls and a child general with a heroic expression are lined up in 15 Japanese dolls decorated in 30 tiers with a height of 6 meters and are overwhelmingly powerful. It is one of the largest in Japan and is worth seeing. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays during the exhibition period, a Warlord experience is also held. Why don't you feel like a warlord? April 27, 2024 Sat ~ June 9, 2024 Sun Closed on Wednesdays after May 8 For more information, please visit the World Folk Doll Museum ☎026-245-2340

Night cherry blossom illumination is now on near Iwanai Shrine Street and Kunsuien! This is a new event starting this year🌸 Also, today, April 29, a tour of Kunsuien will be held. Kunsuien is one of the villas owned by wealthy merchant Ichitaro Umezawa, who served as Iwanai’s first mayor. It features a single-story wooden house built around 1920 (Taisho 9) and a Japanese garden developed between 1897 (Meiji 30) and around 1913 (Taisho 2). Full restoration began in fiscal 2021 (Reiwa 3), and the work is finally complete this year! A pre-opening runs from April 30, 9:00–17:00. Illumination of this site also starts on May 3, so please enjoy it together with the night cherry blossom lighting. If you visit Iwanai-cho, please be sure to stop by.
